We stopped here because of the great reviews. We realized Cranberry is a town filled with optimism. Heck, even the Olive Garden has a four star review! It must have been an off night with the cook at this place because out experience was much different. Mo kind of grumbled at her plate, and said it looked like Kibbles and Bits. I had the best eating experience at Chen's this past Monday afternoon. We headed up to Cranberry in a rain storm and were looking for good Chinese. FOUND IT!!! Wow! We walked into a beautiful and dare I say sensual looking building and were immediately greeted/seated in a booth with a gorgeously filled aquarium. 5 stars for the entry and immediate gratification of our two kids, ages 2 and 4. Our service and the restaurant's overall hospitality is how we dream it to be: superb. Even the smooth jazz station made a difference in the emotional/visual experience of just being there. The food was perfect. I ordered the orange shrimp with brown rice served alongside steamed broccoli. Every bite was divine. I was almost in tears enjoying the beautifully prepared meal. I love House of Chen! This is my favorite spot in Cranberry for Chinese food. They have incredible food, good service (dine in or take out!) and great portion sizes for the price. Not great, expensive - didn't get the order right, and the soup had an odd after taste. I didn't finish the soup, but I also didn't get sick from it either. Not suggesting that it was contaminated or bad, just seasoned in a weird way. A lot of people around the area love House of Chen. I however, am not one of them. read more

I don't give any star, because the food has been the worst we've ever eaten in a Chinese restaurant and plus it's expensive for what it is ! We have ordered egg rolls and Wonton soup with two main dishes General Tao combinations, General Tao's chicken. The egg roll was horrific, big and filled with lots of cabbages tasteless cheaply made cabbage, why don't they called it vegetarian egg roll ?!!! I guess because it's size , so they charged you $3.00 a piece !! Then here came the Wonton soup with a bowl of yellowish clear soup base with 2 big wontons in it ! We have to said that was the most terrible soup we've had!!! Well I don't think I need to describe the two main dishes we were having . I thought we were being fed with frozen microwave heat up dinners, then again microwave heat up dinners we bought from Trader Joe taste much better than that ! This would be our first time and will be our last , we got fooled by the outside appearance , a nice terrace, a touch of traditional deco flaire , inside was decently clean ; nevertheless we'll never go back again! read more

The quality has diminished. My wife had a terrible tasting won ton soup in a yellow broth she said probably was made with yellow food coloring. My pork lo mein tasted as if it had sat for who knows how long and then heated in a micro. We have gone to Chens many times and had great meals but something negative sure has happened. read more

Great place. We just found this restaurant a few days ago but we all love it. Great food, awesome service (the people are super nice and helpful) and the place is clean. Oh my Goodness! The best Eggrolls Hot n sour soup and Kung pow trio w big shrimps beef chicken w crispy veggies fried em rice w egg& frozen peas and carrots! It was so great for lunch! Gets crowded but amazing if your out in Cranberry! I used to go here several X when I lived in Zelienople PA and the 15 min drive was worth it! Now a 45 min drive is worth it! Far and away the best Chinese food in Cranberry township!!! The sesame chicken is to die for, and the rice is cooked and seasoned to PERFECTION!!! I have tried to support them for awhile now but the food is just not consistant. For instance I always request practically no soy source in the fried rice as I want to watch sodium intake. I don't think they have ever gotten it corr3ct and it is always the same as normal fried rice. I have even emphasized this several ti,es to the person taking the order and have even motioned the mistakes to the owner. He just stared at me and said hopefully this will be better. I'm thinking maybe all fried rice may be prepared in advance and that is what you get. What else could it be. Also my wife has mentioned several times, the egg rolls don't seem to have much filling other than cabbage. Over all unfortunately the food is just very inconsisten. The last time we ordered it happened to be a Sunday and the food was not good. Flavors were way off. So I am done here. To me I will pay a few dollars more and go to Jimmy WANs where the food is consistent and they make my fried rice as ordered with very little soy sauce. The quality is much higher at WANs but as I say, you will pay a dollar or two more. Chens unfortunately doesn't get it and maybe just too old to care about pleaseing anyone. read more

Ordered takeout from here. For how nice the place was, I was hopeful that the food would be good. I was however, disappointed. The general tso's chicken (white meat) was good in the sense that it was nice chunks of white chicken - but the flavor was seriously lacking. It fell very flat and lacked spice or any "punch" like other general tso's I've had. The vegetable lo mein had very over cooked noodles (borderline mushy), and we barely got any vegetables it. The flavor was bland as well. It was honestly the worst vegetable lo mein I've ever eaten. The food tasted old over top of it. The spring rolls were $3 each and absolutely nothing special about them. The portions were absolutely AWFUL for the price we paid. This place isn't cheap, so you're expecting some nice portions and fresh food. It was quite the opposite. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

If I could rate a zero I would!!!!! I use to love Chens but after how I was just treated, will NEVER go back!!!!!!!! Called in a to go order General Tso's lunch special. The lady taking my order kept saying General tso's white meat when she repeated my order. I told her 3 times "General Tso's lunch special...the regular general tso's". Go to pick up food, wouldn't you know she gave me General Tso's white meat. I asked her very nicely to remake food and that I wanted the regular General tso's. She literally picked up my food and threw it across the bar and said it would be a couple minutes. Literally 3 minutes later she comes out with my food. The stupid b&tch gave me the same food back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And didn't reimburse me for the difference. The white meat only is more expensive. read more

Yesterday was my first day in Cranberry Township for business trip. I was excited to see a Chinese restaurant with great reviews on Yelp and couldnt wait to give it a try. The name of the restaurant was changed to" The Chen's" The restaurant is not tidy and I was given a napkin with a thing like left over on top. The light was dim and we stood at the entrance for 5 minutes without being helped. We ordered General Tsao's Chicken and seafood platter. Not to my surprise, the food was typical americanized chinese food. The taste is about or even under average. Besides, I think it's totally over priced. 2 dishes with 2 brown rices were charged for $32 dollars!!!! I write this to share with someone who is looking for authentic Chinese cuisine. This place used to be called House of Chens now it is just called Chens. Their staff is okay they do a good job of making sure that your tables needs are meet but not always the most English-speaking. They used to have a fantastic buffet on Sundays however that is gone by the wayside. It might be back now but I'm sure it's not the same. The food is changed as well used to be in large family style portions and is now served by plate. They seem to have gone away from their family style Chinese restaurant ways trying to keep up with the more popular sushi bar style restaurants in a more nightclub decorated feel. read more

I found Chen's when I was looking for a restaurant on the way home to Youngstown from a matinee in Pittsburgh. Since then, it has continued to be my favorite stop, and an excellent Chinese restaurant. Before my first time, I had heard a piece in NPR on the Chinese New Year, and the speaker said she was going to cook a traditional dish called "hot pot." Absolutely horrible. I kept hearing rumors about this place going down hill since all the cooks moved on when they closed to remodel. And all the rumors were right. I really don't know what is worse. The service or the food. I guess there both equally horrible. The waitress was a witch. Took my pop to refill and didn't bring it back for 15 mins.
