Had lunch today-exceptional staff, very friendly! But the real story here is the food-I had to two meat combo and had chicken and the seasoned ground beef which comes served with a generous portion of rice and some grilled vegetables as well as a choice of two sides. I recommend the green chile must (yogurt) and the pepper eggplant. A nice sprinkle of ground sumac gives everything a bright, lemony taste. I will definitely be back! read more

Good food and a good attempt at service. I had to wait longer than I expected to when the restaurant was not terribly busy, and observed a lot of the staff talking to each other, not paying particular attention to customers. The asst. manager noticed I was getting annoyed so he brought over a free dessert already boxed to go. The food was good and fresh. Iced tea blend was fabulous!! The food AND the staff are awesome! I'm a big soup/stew person, and they have a number of different stews to choose from. If you can't decide, they'll let you sample to see which one you like. I ended up with the Pomegranate and Walnut stew-slightly sweet, similar to a Moroccan tagine. My husband had the ground beef and onion kebab. Delicious! We got a sampler dessert plate and baklava cheesecake to go. The baklava cheesecake is also delicious-the cheesecake counters the sweetness of the baklava perfectly. Best Persian cuisine I have had in a long time. Superb service, food and dessert; a total package.

We enjoy Mediterranean food and have had been spoiled by the abundance of it in our other hometown, Houston. Chello Grill serves up good variety, especially of sides and different meat kabobs. Veggie kabob is available as well, although I think it's price should be a little less than the meat kabobs. I had a chicken kabob and a steak kabob - the chicken was tender and flavorful; the steak could have spent less time cooking, as well as my husband's lamb, which came out a little dry. Grilled veggies were delicious - I had to salt and pepper mine - but were fresh and crisp. My favorite dish was the stewed eggplant (with tomatoes) - absolutely the best - loved it with naan. Dessert was stuffed dates and baklava. The baklava was sweet and rich, but a little dry. I drank a Persian hot tea, which was a nice complement to the sweet flavors. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Prices were quite reasonable, and we would definitely try Chello Grill again. read more

The food was delicious and the service was even better. The owner brought out complimentary stew for us to try. The baklava was to die for. My husband, daughter and I split the order of three-kebab, two sides, grilled veggies, and saffron rice. More than enough food for us all and a really reasonable price. My favorite was the ground beef and onion kebab and my husband liked the shish kabob best. The hummus was the best I'd ever tasted. My husband isn't a big hummus fan and he raved about this hummus! Perfectly garlicky. My picky toddler devoured the yogurt and cucumber dip. I would absolutely come back and I will be recommending this place to everyone! read more

We discovered Chello Grill today and were very pleased. It's not a fancy or pretentious place, but they offer a large variety of food which is deliciously prepared and welcoming, friendly service. We were offered samples of the side dishes before we selected. The lamb kabobs I ordered were tender and delicious. My husband really enjoyed the gyro open sandwich. Maggie and the rest of the staff were very helpful, friendly and patient in explaining the menu and even helped us get the most out of the coupon we wanted to use. And if you're a veteran, there's a free drink included. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely go there again. read more

Delicious! Large portions of kabob meat and vegetables, accompanied by saffron rice and naan with a variety of flavorful sides like yogurt and spinach dip or hummus. Perfectly seasoned. Four stars for the excellent food but only 3 stars for the staff. I have eaten here many times and always enjoyed the food. It is a unique Persian/Mediterranean fusion. Their version of a gyro sandwich is lovely - served on a delicate naan bread rather than a heavy pita. During the week, there are a couple of upbeat, positive and happy gals working. On the weekends it is another story. The young kids working (family?) are just depressing. I have never seen a single smile, they seem like they don't want to be there. After approx. 6 times visiting on the weekend, I will now only go during the week. Who wants to go out to lunch and leave in a downer mood? read more

This is my new favorite Mediterranean food place. The kabobs and lamb are raw on the skewer and put on the grill when you order so they are fresh. This is my second visit and this will be my last. First visit, the chicken was very dry and this visit the steak was dry and tough. And to top it off, they charge $2.00 for steak option. The price of $11.99 for a vegetable kabob and rice is ridiculous. The Naan was so dry and tough. What a waste of money for 3 entrees that were so bad. read more

Listened to the advertisement on the radio. The food was okay. Service was okay, ordered a gluten free (GF) naan and it was brought out several minutes before the chicken and lamb. The GF naan like many GF breads turns very stiff, hard and cold. Food was delivered, very bland and no real Mediterranean flavors. It was also expensive, $34 for two meals. Overall experience was a bit of a let down. We will stick to our regular spots, knowingly, Albuquerque does have several other really good Mediterranean restaurants. read more

Ate here a couple of nights ago. I'm skeptical of many of the reviews on this restaurant because my date and I did not have a 5-star experience... not even close. The restaurant is clean, service is good and staff are friendly. The problem is the food. I grew up in Washington, D.C. where you can get pretty much any ethnicity of food you want. Now, I'm not saying I'm an expert on Middle Eastern food, but let's just say I've eaten it at least a hundred times (I'm old, so I've had the time to do this) at D.C. (and even Albuquerque) restaurants, so I usually know what to expect. This food surprised me. First, the hummus came out chunky, not creamy (they put a big scoop, or ball, of it on your plate) with virtually no seasoning... not a hint of garlic. Hummus without garlic?? Second, our kebabs came out. I couldn't taste any seasoning at all. In fact, my lamb didn't even taste like lamb. Finally, I wanted my date to try baklava because she'd never had it, so I order two triangles. It was way too chewy and not particularly sweet, as if it didn't have much honey in it. Just not at all tasty. If it had just been the hummus, I wouldn't have written this at all. But when three dishes come out that are totally unlike the same dishes offered in other Middle Eastern restaurants, I have to believe that other reviewers (including the one from Detroit) either didn't have the same experience I had, or they don't know their Middle Eastern food. read more

I heard great things about this place and decided to try it out for a late lunch. I wasn't sure what to get but the staff was super helpful. I chose the chicken gyro, side of hummus, ice tea, and a baklava ( it was dessert happy hour). The service was amazing! The food was even better. You can tell right away that they make everything in house. The hummus was the best I've had in ABQ. There was so much food that I had the hummus later for dinner. It is truly fresh food fast. My coworker came here for lunch and said the food was delicious so I tried it for dinner. I must say the food is delicious! I had the Chello Yek- 1 chicken kabob, 1 side. For my side, i chose the green chile chicken stew. It was tasty and not too spicy. The meal came with rice, grilled veggies (tomato, squash, green chile) and naan bread. Chello has become a new favorite of mine and a regular standby in the rotation. The food is generally delicious and the free tastings always get me to try something new. This makes it feel very hospitable, and the food is almost always up to or exceeds par (though as some others have said, the gyro meat can sometimes be a bit disappointing compared to the koobideh, which seems freshly made). My only significant hesitation in choosing Chello when I think about my lunch options is the rather over-the-top way that some of the serving staff attempt to befriend everyone who enters. I also don't need to be yelled "welcome" at from across the room when I arrive, or "thank you!" as I depart, or to feel like the server wants to have a detailed conversation with me and be my friend. I'm here for the food, and service with a smile is already service indeed. (Similarly, when checking-out, I don't need to be offered an opportunity to win a Louis Vuitton bag or any other gimmick--please just sell me my food! It would be a shame if Chello went down the road of some department stores that are always trying to get one to sign up for a credit card or loyalty program or...) read more

I saw the add for this place at the movie theatre. I started with the Side salad. Any salad with Greek vinaigrette and feta is yummy in my opinion. You can't go wrong with that. I ordered an open-faced gyro with chicken. The seasoning of the chicken was delicious. The naan was a bit thin and crispy so when I attempted to fold it to eat, it tore and everything fell out the hole. I ended up eating it by tearing off pieces with the help of a fork. It was messy but still good flavor. Probably too much cucumber, yogurt spread for me. I'd go back but this time I'd go for a kabob and rice. read more
