This was our first visit and definitely not the last. It's a bit of a hike from the crib but well worth it. First impressions: Our hostess, Janine is a bubbly, bright, breath of fresh air. Ambiance: "Soft Casual", I.e. you feel good in nice jeans, leather and bling. Service: Outstanding! The servers, especially Joe, were attentive without being annoying. Food: Fresh hot bread(s); Generous and fab Fried Calamari and decent Crab cake appetizers (I'm picky being from the Chesapeake Bay region); Excellent Short Rib Pasta and oh so good Shrimp and Crab Pasta entrees! We had the Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream but I wish I had room for the cheese cake and chocolate ambrosia cake! I think the Chef loves whipped cream almost as much as I do! Easily enough food for a family of 4 for two consecutive dinners! I now understand why everyone had take away bags! My friend and I came in on a Sunday afternoon during Long Island Restaurant Week. She read the hours of operations wrong, so we arrived a bit early - before opening actually - but we were still welcomed. What was most impressive was we were waited on by the owner of the joint, David! He was so friendly and sweet, changing the temperature to our needs and offering suggestions on his menu. Unlike most places during LIRW, this restaurant serves full size menu options and not the watered down, miniature versions that most other places do. She chose the Mac & Cheese as her app, I chose the Crab Cakes. I've never been a big fan of Mac & Cheese at restaurants because they just can't compare to my mama's, but I was impressed. This 7-cheese Mac and Cheese was so rich and delicious. You can taste the different cheese throughout and there was more than enough for us to share. The Crab Cakes were delicious! Although, I can't say I was able to pull chunks of crab like I had hoped, they were still delicious accompanied by the caper sauce drizzled on top. We shared our apps because they were so plentiful, and we almost forgot we had entrees and desserts left! As an entree she chose the Shrimp Scampi, which came with rice, veggies and more shrimp than I've seen on a plate - skewered and sauced to PERFECTION. I chose the Short Rib pasta - which was a plate full of rigatoni in a savory brown sauce with grape tomatoes, shaved parmesan and enough short rib to eat in every bite. Needless to say, we had to take our desserts to go. Hers was a chocolate cake and mine a Creme Brûlée. I was pleased when the server (who took over for David) let me know because it was being taken to go, the Creme Brûlée wouldn't hold up well, but they had a good alternative. Overall, I definitely feel like I got more than my $29.95 price tag for the meal between quality and service. Occupying the former long-time stalwart, La Rioja, Chefs 724 is a really strong 4 star and almost a 5 star restaurant. The service was excellent, friendly and informative. The brother owners both came to the table to say hello (one is the chef, the other runs front of house-a family affair). The food was creative but the menu needs some fine-tuning--and that has nothing to do with taste, quality of ingredient, preparation, presentation or temperature--all very good to excellent. I started with the Tuna Tartar. The presentation was great and the portion of tuna very large. Tasted great. The sesame seeds were a nice touch to the side and the sauce choice was good. It could have used some wasabi or a hotter horseradish. My wife and mom's boyfriend had the French Onion Soup. Again very tasty but it needed more gruyere or at least it would have been nice to have it cover the crock and be broiled/browned rather than being in the soup itself. My wife had the braised short rib over potatoes. Excellent dish but way too many carrots presenting the meat. Less would be more. My mom and her boyfriend had the shrimp scampi and they both loved it. I had the veggie burger (I was in the mood) and it was excellent, if not huge! I made the mistake of not asking for the dressing on the side of the salad that I chose as an accompaniment and also the pepper had already been added. The server needs to ask if you want the dressing on the side and pepper should always be added after to a salad. I think as they get going and find their rhythm this will end up being a solid 5 star. This hidden gem is perfect for events. It's a one party atmosphere and david and his staff are top notch! David is very easy to deal with from beginning to end. I recently had my daughters Bridal Shower there. Everything was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were lovely and we were able to add all of our own decorating touches. David, owner and chef is the nicest person you would ever want to meet. You feel like you are with family. The food was excellent as well as the service provided by Ashley and Eric. A great find with a menu that is filled with choices to be your new favorite. The short rib pasta was amazingly perfect. Service was exceptional. The owners were generous and kind. We brought a group from our local Temple to a dinner there and everyone was so happy. This is a rare find for a true dining experience. We were invited to a private party at chefs 724. What a great venue!! We had the whole restaurant to ourselves a definite plus. The food was fantastic, perfect short ribs delicious chicken franchase, beautiful pasta dishes etc.. Desserts were even better shot glasses of cheesecake,chocolate mousse, flan and any other delicacy you could think of. The dining room was quite spacious as was the bar area. Went for dinner here last week. Food was good, not exceptional , but good. We had Mozz plate to start and crab cakes, both were good. For dinner I had Shrimp scampi, I don't know why it was called that it was in a cream sauce that was stated on the menu, however could not taste any garlic or wine, was a little bland to be honest. My husband got Tuna which he said was tasty. I think the wine list was way over price, come on!? a bottle of "14 hands" for $32, its $6.99 at Costco! everyone who lives in IP or oceanside goes there so you need to work on that a little. I lived in Island Park for 5 years and moved to South Carolina last month. I was wanting to try this place when my friend told me that it was opened. He told me I would love the food. Well, I finally went on my last trip this week to NY to pick up the rest of my stuff. So here we go.... We walked in early around 4-5pm and I was surprised there was like no one in the restaurant. Glad we got there early as later between 6 and 7pm it started to become crazy busy. So that should give you a clue what the food is like. My brother and I went with the prefixed meal which comes with a appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee or tea. We went with a bottle of the house red when. It was fruitful, not acidic as some are and I a lot of times get heartburn, but not with this, just had a relaxed ahh feeling. Where were these guys 12 years ago when I returned to NY and was always stressed working in NYC...... For the apps we went with Risotto Cakes and Chicken Pot Stickers (anyone know why they gave it this funky name?). Bother were delightful and left me wanting more, but I gave up some to save room for all the courses I usually don't eat this much. Next came short rib pasta and herb crusted salmon. I loved the short ribs, although I wanted to eat one of everything on the menu. I rarely order salmon as most taste sandy, are over cooked or just not tasting fresh. NOT HERE! I tasted my brothers salmon as he tasted my short ribs. I LOVED the salmon as it was like butter melting in my mouth! I was ok with what was there, but my brother is a finger liking kind and wanted more of the sauce that came with it. The short rib with pasta was insane! I think the waiter thought I was not pleased with the food since I didn't eat it all. I had to save some for my after midnight meal which I had at 1 am. Next came the desserts. I went with one of The owners wife favorites, Semolina cake and my brother went with apple crumble. Of course again we sampled each others. The were so heavenly and a perfect ending to a perfect meal. Light but wanting more even though I and brother #3 were full and not wanting more, well I did want more or other items on the menu as they all sound so yummy. The cappuccino was the final touch to finish off the perfect meal. Dave the owner is a down to earth guy and his wife Jen is a just the same. This is a must, Must, did I say MUST stop in and try restaurant! The food is TOP that I've had in some time and all are cooked to perfection. My parents have been going to this place since it opened.. they are what you would call "foodies" so when they recommended this place I knew we would not be disappointed and boy were they right. The first time we went there the food was so good we decided to have our Sons Baptism there at that very moment! The food is outstanding, there is honestly not one item on there menu I wouldn't recommend.. from their amazing goat cheese quesadilla, crab cakes and baked clams appetizers to their short ribs, pastas, chicken and steak entrees you can't go wrong. Their desserts are out of this world, freshly baked all in house. The staff is so sweet and accommodating, taking care of you from the moment you walk in to moment you leave. Tried this little hidden gem and loved it. Staff is welcoming and friendly. I had the lobster bisque, it was amazing! Actually both my husband and I had the price fix deal, app, main course and dessert for $28.95, great price for great food!! I had the shrimp scampi with amazingly fresh vegetables, the artichoke with sauteed onions was great and the vegetable medley was all fresh veggies, carrots, asparagus, peppers and squash. The scampi was on skewers and I got 9 jumbo shrimp, wow!! My husband had the chicken parm with pasta, no complaints there, gone, was delicious. Highly recommend you give this place a try!! read more

Some out of town family members were visiting for Labor Day weekend, and our party of 7 came on Sunday night. It was quiet in town, and in the restaurant, yet everything we ordered was prepared with care, and was delicious. House cocktails were excellent. I had a "724", a cross between a boulevardier and a Manhattan made with Knob Creek (my fave) bourbon. We shared baked clams, which, topped with melted cheese, were wonderful, crispy/tender calamari, and risotto balls, served with perfect aioli. My burger came topped with white truffle-infused cheese, served on a brioche roll. Perfect flavors. On the side were the best French fries i've had in a good while, and I am a French fry enthusiast. Other dishes that were thoroghly enjoyed at our table: skirt steak with roasted potstoes, chicken marsala with mashed potatoes. A word about the veggie side, a medley of perfectly sauteed baby zucchini, carrots and more good stuff. Not boring, or mushy, hooray! My advice: give this place a try! read more

Ok, this place was a total surprise! Stopped in on the way back from JFK with a totally mixed group of diners. We ordered everything from CRAZY DELICIOUS ribs that we all shared to risotto cakes that were killer and were still able to get fried mozzarella for the kids. The chicken Roma was amazing and I brought home enough for lunch. The kids had burgers and cleaned their plates. My husband had the skirt steak and said it was "fantastic." Really good wines at really nice prices and ALL the desserts you like: crime brûlée, ny cheesecake, chocolate mousse type pudding SO GOOD and some kind of cobbler we passed them all around. Seriously great food! Stopped in on Memorial Day weekend with my boyfriend around 7 pm and while there were many in the dining room, we were immediately seated. Our server, Erik, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He recommended I try their Mango sangria which was house-made, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. For appetizers we split the risotto cakes and crab cakes, and both were delicious. Erik had said his favorite was the risotto cake, and I can see why. For dinner, we split their signature 724 burger, which is a generously-sized burger, plenty for 2, with truffle cheese and caramelized shallots and a truffle aioli (don't quote me on this, I'm describing the ingredients from memory almost a week later. The takeaway is TRUFFLE!), and a side of sweet potato fries. We devoured our burger. We were pretty full but needed to try a few bites of dessert. On our servers recommendation we tried the bourbon bread pudding, and wow. Absolutely delicious. Some places claim to add bourbon to their food but you can't really taste it and have to take their word that it's there, this bread pudding is finished with bourbon so you can absolutely taste it. Chefs is a gift to the south shore. The staff the food the service is outstanding. We frequently enjoy dinner here on weeknights. This Saturday we attended a magnificent catered event following a Baptism I hope someone in attendance is able to share pictures of the decor food selections and outstanding dessert offerings The children meals were prearranged and wisely served first. the staff and chefs must be childcare certified. My husband and I have been meaning to try this place since we moved to Island park, just to try every place in town. You wouldn't know it from the outside but it is so cozy inside. Great lighting. Relaxing music! The Bread was warm and fresh. They had big wine glasses for red wine, the Lobster bisque and French onion soups were perfectly presented and were Maybe the best we've ever had. We ordered the Sea Bass and Lamb ossobuco. The dishes have interesting sides and even things that some restaurants fail to focus on, were perfect. Like when a wide variety of veggies are all cooked to perfection! The service was great and we wish them years of success in this town... can't wait to go back and this is our attempt to encourage more people to just go inside!!!! read more

Last week we were planning a Saturday afternoon family BBQ when the forecast for rain put a damper on that plan. We went to talk with Dave at Chefs and he put together a SPECTACULAR menu. Given the heat, we didn't want to cook inside, so he made us an entirely "room temperature" dinner. This place was a little odd. I felt like the ambiance and the food really didn't go together. They have a fairly varied menu, I went with three other people and we all got completely different things. I had a seafood pasta, which had some very over cooked shrimp and I found to be pretty disappointing. My fiancé had a half rack of ribs which he did enjoy. I had a creme brûlée for dessert which was seriously burnt, the top layer was basically inedible. Overall this experience was lackluster, and I don't plan on returning anytime soon. read more

We had dinner at Chefs 724 last evening and the food was a huge disappointment and way overpriced. The appetizer that my partner ordered, French onion soup, was served in a soup bowl instead of a crock pot. No no #1. He returned it and ordered baked clams instead. The clams were topped with cheese and a sauce -- nauseating. The entrees were pretty good -- I had the salmon and my partner had the steak. Not bad, but nothing to rave about. We ordered the apple crumb cake for dessert, which was served in mugs with granola. Way too sweet. I had two glasses of wine and he had two glasses of Sangria. The bill came out to $150.00! There are plenty of other great restaurants in Island Park, Long Beach and Oceanside to choose from, so don't waste your money here. Not going back. read more

Went to Chefs 724 for the first time with friends. The food was good, not great. But, the staff is so incredible ! Everyone from the valet, hostess, waiter, bus boy....... Each one was so polite and did everything to make your evening enjoyable. Our waiter was the best. He had such a pleasant personality and really looked like he enjoyed his job. This was our first time here and we all really liked it! The bread was delicious and was replenished without even asking. The chicken potstickers were delicious and there was more than enough to share. For entrees we ordered two types of salmon, chicken marsala, and I had the short rib pasta. The short rib pasta was delicious, very rich but amazing flavor. The portion of the pasta was very generous. For dessert, we shared a chocolate custard dessert which was so smooth and tasty. Went for dinner on a Sunday. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious. I ordered the shrimp and crab meat pasta for entree. The seafood is very fresh and my meal was yummy. My friend had the scampi and I looked delicious. I will order that next time!!! The only thing lacking was the apple crumble. The topping was not my cup of tea. My Mom and I have been wanting to check out this place for a few months after hearing from a friend that it was great. Last night we went along with my BF for my mom's birthday dinner. The waitstaff was very nice and attentive, however the food was horrible. The cold, hard bread we were served had me wary from the moment we sat down. We got the fried calamari appetizer which was fine... we ordered it extra crispy which it was and the dipping sauces were tasty. I ordered the stuffed sole which came with veggies and rice. The rice was great, veggies were bland and the fish... was so dry, I tried to make it edible with the sauce they gave on the side but that was so salty I could barely eat it (and I can definitely eat). My BF got a chicken dish but he wasn't feeling well so he took it to go. My Mom got the short ribs and she said they were blah and didnt have much flavor, but she ate them anyway after being so hungry waiting for her bday dinner all day. We had reservation at this establishment and he knew that we had two small children in our party. Mind you that there was only 1 other table in the restaurant. He came over and yelled at us that the kids were being to loud. When I tell you he started yelling like a mad man. After hearing bad things about this restaurant I decided to give it a shot so how bad could it be do not go to this restaurant the food is terrible and the owner is a piece of crap. The waitress had no idea what she was doing. Take your money elsewhere there's a lot more better restaurants in the area. What an amazing find! The service was impeccable. The menu had a variety of items including Asian, Italian and French inspired food. My husband had the tuna which was very fresh. My steak was tender and perfectly cooked. My daughter ordered the onion soup which was delicious but not traditional. this was the WORST experience i have ever encountered in my entire life. i came here with my family for a communion and the owner actually came up to our table demanding we leave if the babies left their high chairs, he told us no one in the restaurant wanted to be near us because we were loud. he told us to get out and leave. this was a holy special day for my family and we actually had to get up and leave and go somewhere else because he made us feel so sad and uncomfortable. i really can't believe he made us leave because a 2 year old got up our her high chair and was walking around. i have been in the food business most of my life and not once have i ever heard of an owner treating customers the way he treated me and my family. i suggest everyone to NEVER step foot in this restaurant. read more

So we went to this restaurant when it first opened .. they seem like very nice people and the food was not so good service though was good.. No big deal and a new restaurant needs to work the kinks out We returned last night after seeing amazing reviews on how great the food is they were very busy and rightfully so we didn't have a reservation so they basically turned us away the hostess told us to come back tomorrow meaning Sunday that it was restaurant week ..wouldn't be as busy .OK no problem at that point we went to a restaurant right down the block which we also love and has amazing food and service we went back 5pm today as the hostess suggested same hostess same shitty attitude it's restaurant week I don't have anything for you except by the bar ... I think if her attitude wasn't so snooty we would've taken the table by the bar...
