Let me start off by saying I totally misjudged this restaurant!! My husband and I drive by this place and he would constantly say, " let's try this place." And I would say, "nah, meh." But today I agreed. And my perception was totally miscued!! Walking inside it is quite cute. Decor is very colorful and cheery. The service was nice and the waitresses were very helpful. We came on a Tuesday and saw they have a fried chicken dinner special. I tried the Russ fried chicken sandwiches and they were very tasty. The jalapeño cheese bread fell apart a bit, but it was ok. Still delicious‼ My husband had the fried catfish and it was cooked just right. The hush puppies were so good ‼. Both plates were presented well and the taste was on point. We shall return.

Friendly servers. Excellent food. Like seriously excellent. It's a rather unassuming place from the outside but once you're inside the atmosphere and ambience is fun but thankfully not obnoxious. I had the sea bass special and oh my god, it was the first time in a while that a bite of food made my eyes roll into the back of my head. I wish I had seen the dessert menu before I ate most of my entree, because the desserts looked really good. Next time I'll make sure to save room.

Save a trip to NOLA Come here instead and taste the flavors from a real chef and get spoiled from his attentive and professional staff I have been here many times and the last time we.noticed they were waiting for the Liquor License to be renewed. They are still on hold for this but it should not steer you away. Save the calories from the drinks and get dessert! I know. They will get their license back soon but their food stands on its own. Try the salads, soups, and pasta dishes. I LOVE the Linguini with Garlic Shrimp and Mushrooms. It is a revelation, an orchestra of flavors, a delightful creation. This place is a GEM The ambiance is eclectic, perhaps a little eccentric and fun and inviting.

Some friends recommended we go to Chef Rick's for lunch but they close at 2PM so when we called they told us to come on in even though it was 1:50! We were so grateful! It was my first time there and we ordered appetizers and entrees. It was incredible. Every single part of the meal! The next day I was dreaming about the dinner rolls they started us with! their portions are big as well! Everything is homemade! Absolutely incredible!

If you're looking for a meal that will pleasantly surprise you, and wake up your taste buds, look no further than Chef Rick's Ultimately Fine Foods in Orcutt. The flavors are bold, meld well, and one can tell that only quality ingredients are used. The menu offers cajun-like flavors and something for everyone, including several vegetarian options. The service is suburb, and we were not rushed through our dining experience. I had the Sea Bass Special, which was pan-seared to perfection, with a crispy, golden skin that gives way to buttery, flaky white fish inside. Layered below the sea bass is tender asparagus and fried mashed potatoes. And, topped with a beautiful cream sauce. It is absurdly delicious. My partner had the Grilled Monster Cheeseburger, with Rick's secret sauce. It was cooked to perfection and paired well with broccoli slaw lightly coated in a sunflower seed vinaigrette Scrumptious! Do not leave without ordering a slice of the Chocolate Pecan Pie. This pie is the "supreme" of desserts. It is baked perfectly with homemade crust, gooey dark sugar center, and drizzled with chocolate. I ate the entire, generous slice. One cannot help but notice the artwork on the walls. The restaurant doubles as a gallery, showcasing bold, colorful pieces from local artists that give the space a creative, soulful energy. It's the perfect backdrop for a meal that is, quite literally, a work of art itself. This is a "must visit" restaurant for locals and those passing through the Central Coast.

Came by for an early Thursday dinner. Arrived when they just opened. We were promptly greeted when we entered and given the choice to sit where we wanted. We ordered their "archie's new orleans-style barbequed shrimp" ($18) and their dinner special "16-ounce prime ribeye skillet steak" ($48). Complimentary warm bread basket was provided. Food came out timely and at the right temperature. My Archie's appetizer was excellent but I would prefer a harder bread for dipping up the broth as the bread provided kept falling apart when sopping up the broth. Steak option looked fantastic. The corn mixture was very tasty as well as the fried onion strings. The steak was cooked as requested but, to me, fell short in taste and texture. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Service was on point.

Ok, I went from loving this place to watching it fall apart. And I feel sad. So I went there with my friends a couple of months ago and noticed a big down turn in the quality and quantity of food. And was told that the food had not been changed. Well, I chocked it up to a bad night. Everyone has one, I didn't want to make a federal case out of it. Until tonight. We had reservations for taking our best friends there for a birthday celebration only to told that that liquor license had been gone for a few months now. Um, need to give a nice cheers to our guest of honor. Thanks for the heads up! Let's go to plan B.

This is vanilla ice cream with blackberries and blackberry sauce. It was delicious so is everything I've ever gotten there.

Chef Rick's is one of our favorite restaurants in town. We scheduled a reservation for my mom's 82nd birthday and they surprised us by having a handwritten menu with MOM's 82nd birthday at the top. They gave us a private table and they even gave us a dessert and the chef came out and sang. happy birthday with his staff. and my mom was so happy. All the food is absolutely delicious.

This is probably one of my favorite restaurants ever. There is nothing like Chef Rick's. The menu is creative and unique. There is something for everyone here. The Salmon Pear salad is my favorite, my father thinks the burger is the best thing he has ever experienced, and my mother loves all of their shrimp dishes. There is never any wait time and your food comes out quick too. The decorations and style of the whole restaurant makes the meal all the more entertaining too. I would love to shake Chef Rick's hand and tell him thank you, I love you; but also to lower the price of my salad back down to 26 instead of 28 unless he is going to throw in a second pear.

Food was excellent. Wish I would have tried the garlic soup after reading reviews:). Portions were large. Son and husband had sandwiches. I had pasta. All delicious. Service was super friendly. Only comment is don't offer to go boxes and bring when we're not done as well as not have anywhere on table to put them. Nice ambience, appreciate booths. Easy parking in their own lot. read more

Although it's a bit warm to dine outside, its understandable with covid-19. Food quality was very good and had lots of flavor. It's great to have some cajun style variety here in Santa Maria. Where the restaurant needs to improve is with its service. It took over 12 min to get our drink order in and we placed our food order at the same time as we weren't sure how long that would take if we didn't. Servers were not efficient managing tables and with 8 tables under the tent and 4 more along the building and 3 servers, I kept seeing them carry 1 or 2 things at a time and not organized. They could probably use 1 more person inside just to manage to-go orders. We saw 2 other 2 tops arrive after us and both left before us. Overall, I would suggest the takeout before dining in. read more

My friend wanted to buy me lunch and told me to look at Chef Ricks menu. I looked it over but the prices stopped me from ordering a meal so I ordered their chicken tortilla soup. What can I say about broth with little chicken and vegetables but a whole lot of tortilla chips to add to it. Favor was good but went away still hungry and a little upset that my friend had to pay over $10 for it. My friend ordered their coconut shrimp. When she opened the box her jaw dropped. 3 shrimps for $18.00 seriously. Next time we do lunch it won't be from Chef Ricks. read more

Our first time eating here was excellent! Really large lunch portions. Could be shared if you're a lighter eater. They start with amazing cheddar jalapeño biscuits. Totally worth a visit just for those. We ordered the fried shrimp po'boy sandwich with fries, and the fried chicken sandwich with broccoli slaw. Extremely delicious. My friends and I went here this week to celebrate a birthday. She wanted the prime rib sandwich and I wanted a big, crunchy salad. We tried to enter where we always had but the door was locked with a large sign saying their liquor license was suspended indefinitely. Walking around the corner we found another door so entered. This was about 11:30 and few people were inside but more entered around noon. The place was not full, though. A lovely waitress took our orders but several minutes later came back to say they were out of prime rib. Birthday girl ordered a burger. When the food came I couldn't believe what was put before me as The $24 Georgia fried chicken salad. I've ordered this many times over the decades and loved it. That's not what I was served. What I received was a soup bowl plate with a small amount of spring mix scattered on the bowl bottom. That was topped by an adequate amount of fried chicken nuggets. Around the sides of the bowl were garnishments that can be bought canned. 2 slices of pickled beets, 3 olives, 2 pickled baby onions, a tablespoon of grilled corn, 3 slices of hearts of palm the size of quarters, plus half an egg, and a tiny, tiny container of dressing. By the time I ate the chicken, the pieces of lettuce were wilted from the heat of the chicken so I didn't eat them. This was not a salad. It was an appetizer of chicken nuggets on a garnishment of baby greens. For $24. Since it was a birthday, we ordered a slice of chocolate cake. That was $12. Service was excellent but I wish i had been told they were low on lettuce and I would have ordered something else, like the birthday girl had to do. I have no desire to return to Chef Rick's. So sad after all these years... read more

Came here For the first time and the food was fantastic. The service was slow, but they did not had one waitress on for the lunch shift. I got the garlic soup that had so much flavor. And some tasty croutons on the top. It's similar to onion soup but way better. I also got the short rib sliders on jalapeño rolls. Extra super tasty. These two things did not disappoint. read more

VEGAN EATERS HERE..............Chef Rick's is something unique in this area, casual fine comfort food at remarkably fair prices!! It's also incredibly appealing from the moment you walk in. Art is a big part of Rick's, as is the pervasive sense of whimsy in the decor. Clearly a favorite with locals and great for kids and large parties. That said, it's ALL about the food which is remarkable. Sizeable menu, crammed with classics, a warm basket of fresh from the oven rolls (YESSSSSSSS) when you are seated (after ordering at the counter) and the range is impressive. We were four, two plant based eaters, two not and most of what we ordered was vegan, it was just that tempting. DO NOT MISS THE hearts of palm crab cakes!!! They are absolutely addicting and, ok, beautiful! Their (V) burger was stacked and enormous with a similarly enormous side of crispy FF's. YUM. A silky garlic soup, a tortilla strip topped salad (which actually had chicken but can be ordered with either extra avocado or the plant based burger patty), plenty of tap beer and a few glasses of wine and we had NO room for the large choice of desserts, all house made! This is exactly what the area needed. It's certainly what we've been looking for and will be regulars. Thanks Chef Rick for the care you've put into both the restaurant space and your AMAZING food! Placed an order over the phone with a credit card. Arrived at the stated pickup time only to find the order wasn't even started. The salad I ordered was great. The black bean ravioli dish was 8 raviolis in a garlic soup. Clearly not the stated sauce described on the menu. I called and complained. Left a message on their answering machine with my phone number. Did not receive a return call. It bums me because I want to write good reviews and I want establishments to be successful. read more

I usually don't ever leave 1 star reviews, but the combination of mediocre food and expensive prices left us feeling very unsatisfied with our meal. The seasoned fries tasted only like paprika (and were dumped only the top layer), the coconut shrimp appetizer was $18 for just 3 shrimps, and the bbq lamb quesadilla was just not a well execution of that flavor combination. No complaints about the service, but the food and prices overwhelmingly influenced us to not come back read more

Thus far I have had the grilled or bbq'd shrimp BLT which was fabulous, and then the very delicious grilled chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich another time. The fries are the best I have had in Santa Maria. Another person had the bbq'd shrimp quesadilla and another, a beautiful salad and soup. We are all amazed at the quality and the flavors in each dish. I will say though that the only iced tea offered comes in a small glass for $3.50 and tastes like perfumed water although it is supposed to be mango. It was rather unpleasant for me. Definitely recommend Chef Rick's! read more

I don't know about you, but I'm ready for an expansion/different version of the Michelin star. I want a rating system that rewards restaurants who are consistently good but not high end, who don't necessarily require a reservation, whose chefs are accessible for conversation, and who have a few standout dishes that make me want to come back again and again. If said award existed (Beyond Yelp reviews) I'd give one to Chef Ricks! For many years now, my family has been coming to this place (They went to the Jetty too, which Chef Rick took over some time ago...his meals are head and shoulders above that long defunct establishment!) for a very long time. And for years, I've been hearing about how great particular dishes are: The Creole Shrimp, Chicken & Andouille smoked sausage Jambalaya pasta (Now that's a mouthful!) has a long love affair with members of my family. Yet in spite of this I had never been to Chef Rick's! It's a problem easily explained: My days of living in the Central Coast are long behind me. I come to visit but rarely. Thankfully and most recently, my drive down coincided with a gathering of friends and family to Chef Rick's. It was a gastronomic adventure! We couldn't make up our minds on which appetizer to begin with so we went with two: An order of hush puppies (Who doesn't like hush puppies?) and Archie's New Orleans-Style BBQ Shrimp! The Shrimp was like eating the nectar of the Gods! That could have been a meal all its own. But we didn't stop there: The signature family dish was on the table (The Creole Shrimp pasta) as well as Randy's Fish and Chips, the 16ounce Rib eye. Needless to say not one dish disappointed. And we should have stopped there...but dessert called with a "come hither" none of us resisted! All of us had the chocolate peanut butter pie, and by the time we finished, we waddled out of the restaurant. The question for you dear reader is this: Should you eat here? Our group of 15 (9 adults and 6 kids) are staying in Santa Maria and we randomly picked this place. It was great choice. We just left the restaurant 2 hours ago. The location is not on the busy stretch of the street, if you drive fast you would miss it. Outside looks casual and inside decoration is casual but nice. Initially we had a booth for all kids and 2 booths for adults. When a large tables was vacant all the adults moved there. First the service was great. From beginning to the end. We asked our waitress if we could move to the bigger table. We asked for more rolls. We asked for split checks... she was alway smiling. Main attraction was the food. I had jambalaya pasta (penne) and wife had salmon pear salad. It was so good. Taste was great. Pasta was big portion. Son had monster burger, it was big and juicy. To top it off, we were the last party there and while we were paying, Rick came out and chatted with us. Very friendly man. Highly recommend If you come to this part of town. read more

I don't care for the ordering first kind of cafeteria style. Chef Rick's is easily one of the best restaurants not only in town, but on the entire Central Coast. If you haven't been, I definitely recommend trying their Thursday night fried chicken. I haven't had the chance to dine in yet, but their takeout definitely was a day-brightener during COVID. Every desert has been incredible, and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. If there's any complaint to be made, it's that their waitresses seem a little absent-minded; the gross mispronunciation of 'andouille' that I heard signaled that menu familiarity is not a strong suit here. read more

I was a fan of the Orcutt Chef Rick's and this new location does not disappoint. The food was delicious - our group ordered 5 different dishes and all were happy. I had the angel hair pasta with asparagus and mushrooms. Good portions and so tasty! I'm not a fan of the order at the counter style and hope they go back to traditional table service. read more

Stopped by for the first time and I can say this is my new favorite spot. Food is delicious, staff is polite, and prices are fare. Not only does that food taste good but the presentation was worth a picture. Overall a great experience!!!! read more

Fucking SLOW service, brats and sausages totally overcooked, "oh, the condiments are inside...". No amount of condiments could correct what was done to those links! Onion rings thick with oil. The salad looked good (pretty hard to fuck that up). Bottom line: Fire and Vice hates food and tells you that by their shit preparation and service. We should have eaten next door; Vietnamese or the other spot.... Maybe it was an off night.... But I'll never eat there again. Fuck Fire and Vice for what they do to food..... Large alcoholic choice of drinks... really wanted that spicy Mary but since we were in a rush stuck with iced tea. The only 1 minute drive back to the gun range in Santa Maria was grueling smelling that gravy... We were both were thrilled at the large portions. It was amazing! I love gravy and could have used a little bit more but honestly I think it was fine for a normal person plus remember we go to go order so I suspect it soaked up a little on the drive. The staff threw in pepper and Tapatio which the hubs loves. I had Yellow Bird Blue Agave Sriracha in my travel trailer and used a little on it. OMG! It was so good! The potatoes had a nice crunch on them. That gravy was amazing. The biscuit was great, had a bite and saved the rest for later. The hubs managed to eat his whole plate and was stuffed! I might have eaten 1/4 of mine saving it for later. We will for sure be back!

The waffles had such a fluffy center with the lightest crunch on the outside. The bits of pork belly and gravy meshed so well in the Orcutt hash. Our servers were so nice and made it a great experience. Definitely a staple breakfast spot!
