We hired LFA Catering LLC for both our rehearsal dinner and wedding, and unfortunately, the…read moreexperience was extremely disappointing. Rehearsal Dinner The first signs of trouble appeared here. Despite our wedding planner reaching out hours before the event, Jason (the owner) never responded. He was responsible for providing tables and chairs for 40 guests but brought enough for less than a third. While the food was acceptable, it did not match the quality we experienced during our tasting. Wedding Day Our wedding had about 135 guests; per the contract, the catering team was supposed to arrive 3 hours early to assist with setup, food prep, and drinks. Instead, most staff and food arrived late and during the ceremony. Jason was not on-site and could not be reached until well after the event began. The bartenders arrived on time but with no direction and without mixers (also part of the contract), forcing our planner to purchase them out of pocket. Luckily we provided the alcohol so we at least had beer and wine. Because of their late arrival and lack of organization, we had to delay happy hour, dinner, and the reception. When food was finally served, many agreed-upon dishes were missing, including gluten-free options for guests with dietary restrictions. Portions were inconsistent, and they ultimately ran out of food, leaving 20+ guests--including our band and planner--without dinner. Jason did not arrive until after 8 PM (seven hours late) and offered no apology or solution to running out of food. After the Event The team was contracted to handle cleanup, breakdown and trash removal, but this was minimally worked on. Our planner stayed until midnight to clean what she could, after Jason and his staff had left. The next day, my wife, several guests and I spent the whole morning finishing what Jason hadn't done. Afterwards, while my wife and I are trying to enjoy our honeymoon and recover from the disaster he created with our wedding, he harassed my wife about getting all of the items he had left at the venue (we had to take them and store them in our trailer so we didn't get charged by the venue). He didn't have the decency to communicate during the wedding or make efforts to correct his mistakes, but he sure could call and text us non-stop when it was impacting his pocket book. You might wonder if there were warning signs. Honestly, there weren't--until the rehearsal dinner. Leading up to the wedding, Jason was responsive and helpful. He provided a wonderful tasting, he even met us a couple months in advance to walk venue and discuss our needs and coordinate with our wedding planner. He even worked with us to design a menu that accommodated multiple dietary restrictions. He seemed professional and committed. However, on the day of, he was overcommitted and underperformed. The food quality was nowhere near what we had at the tasting. It seemed either Jason didn't prepare the food himself (the head chef onsite was not Jason) or he cannot scale his recipes. Most dishes were bland, poorly cooked, or inedible. Jason may be a fine chef, but he is not a caterer. Something though that really defines who Jason and LFA Catering is, not once, to this day have we received an apology for everything that happened. In fact, during any conversation, with us or anyone else involved, he has only made excuses and tried to defend his actions saying he did the best he could. I'm sorry, but if that's the attitude you plan to have, I could not in good conscious recommend him to anyone for any catering needs. After reading another review where he no called and no showed, I feel lucky we at least received some food and services. I truly feel for those people. I hope whoever has spent the time to read this and their review, learn from our mistakes and stay as far away as possible from this company.

I cannot count the number of wedding guests who commented on the caliber of our food and service…read more If you are getting married in Lexington, I would not look any further than CHEFS Catering. (I can say this after pricing and comparing with many others even outside the Lexington area.) I will be recommending them to friends getting married all over Central Virginia including the Roanoke area. We did a tasting and loved everything we tried. We almost did not do a tasting at all due to not living in the area anymore and also because I had heard such glowing reviews from others that seriously everything is great. John, the owner, worked us in very last minute and I'm glad that he did because the tasting experience was a great chance to get to know him further. We were an unfortunate COVID wedding who postponed our May wedding to September and John could not have been easier to work with. If someone is easy to work with when almost everything is going wrong and you have essentially no idea of guest count, then I am positive he is outstanding for the general wedding. We did passed appetizers which were all a hit. Then some of our dinner is shown in my photos. The photos of our dinner look like I grabbed stock catering photos from google. We had the flank steak with gorgonzola butter and the grilled chicken bruschetta, where many guests cannot decide the favorite. The herbed garlic mashed potatoes still have guests talking. We did a buffet style dinner and the serving staff were beyond knowledgeable, professional, and fast at getting people through the line. We also hired them for bartending our open bar and the guests loved the bartenders. All around, I am still getting comments about how we had the "best wedding food' people had ever had and that the staff was so professional that it felt like no one was ever waiting for anything. As an added bonus, the staff was extra attentive to us during the wedding and were almost always bringing us drinks and food as they know that we would otherwise not have time to do so. Top notch crew! Another note is that one of the main reasons for why we chose CHEFS was the pricing. We spoke with so many caterers who would charge $1/plate to cut a cake (that we had already bought) or $1/glass to pour champagne. CHEFS including those kinds of services in addition to offering extremely reasonable pricing on the food that they do prepare. We purchased our own alcohol in bulk and then hired them for bartending, but almost changed our minds last minutes as even their alcohol packages far exceed other venders.

We were lucky enough to have them do our…read morerehearsal dinner, wedding food and Sunday brunch and all three were BEYOND what someone should be allowed to experience in the same weekend. From a down-home cookout with pulled pork, nacho mac n' cheese and strawberry shortcake for the rehearsal dinner to an all-out food love fest on our wedding day (which included chef-attended Sautéed Southern Comfort Shrimp and grits and Beef Tenderloin stations and a salad/veggie station) to a quiet Sunday brunch complete with french-toast with VANILLA ICE CREAM in the toast batter, we would not have been happier. John and Doug worked with us and our budget to create a weekend that our guests still rave about (sometimes I worry that they've forgotten about the wedding and think they went to a culinary expo instead). They also provided bartenders and help choosing signature drinks and set-up one of their "Last-Call" stations for grilled cheese and fluffernutter sandwiches for when all of our guests needed some bread to soak up those "signature drinks" of ours. Don't hesitate to give them a call, and don't be daunted by prices, they are more than willing to substitute things to meet your needs. Will your guests be upset that you went with beef tenderloin instead of Prime Rib? Not that way that Doug and John cook, they won't. The experience that CHEFS give you is almost equal to their incredible food....almost :)
