I first learned about Chef El-Amin when I was planning an event at our New York office for which I needed a caterer. The event itself was with Hot Bread Kitchen, a food incubator out of East Harlem and I figured that we should probably hire one of their graduates to cater this event.
First of, I loved the web presence of Chef El Amin and so I reached out to them and right away we got talking. The menu needed to address a few dietary needs, as many of the guests were muslims and needed to eat halal. After a few emails and phone calls, we had established the menu for the event and it was smooth sailing from here on.
Chef El-Amin himself delivered the food to our offices on the day of the event and I got to chat with him a bit. It was such a pleasure...but the best part was the food! Below is the food we'd ordered for 70 people and while everything was super tasty, the potato salad was the crowd's favorite!
- Turkey Picadillo: Halal ground turkey meat w/potatoes + olives
- Chickpea Mozambique: Chickpeas and mixed veggies on brown rice
- Collard Greens
- Myrna's Soul Potato Salad
Having had such and awesome experience, I reached out to Chef El-Amin again for another catering opportunity. This time it was for our company's parents group...I recalled that Chef El-Amin is actually a family-run business and so this was just perfect! read more
