AVOID THIS PLACE. I wish I could give them 0 stars! I grew up in Southampton and have never been treated so poorly or had worse customer service in my life. The food is mediocre at best and the wait to order/get your food takes forever (my dad and I stood there for about 7 minutes trying to get someone's attention to order sandwiches). I don't get shaken up easily but the older dark-haired gentleman (whom I believe is the owner) was incredibly rude after I mentioned that an item I bought was stale and inedible. He told me it wasn't his fault and walked away. I wanted was my money back or to exchange the item that he just sold me but he wouldn't listen or give me the time of day. 0 customber serive. I also witnessed a horrible exchange between the owner and a customer that said he had been a customer at the shop for 10 years. The owner REFUSED to fill up the customer's water bottle from the tap, and said he must buy water or a drink. The other man explained he and his little girl always use their own water bottle, as they do not support single use plastic. I was modified! Sandwiches were ok, line took about 20 minutes and the prices are very high. I could not believe how long we had to wait. Golden Pear for us next time. read more

Was in a rush, dropping paperwork off a few doors down, ran in to get a sandwich to eat on way back to office. Too busy looking at menu to look around. There's no place online at the end of the order for additional notes, however ask the owner and she says "well I've been getting them on other orders so one of us is wrong." Yes, you. They forget little things on every order too, it's one thing if this was a $4-8 item but when the minimum you'll spend on one thing is $15 and any add on is minimum $1+ it adds up. I hate to give a bad review but the experience I had here was not great. It is mostly the employee that took my order seemed absolutely miserable and was barking to people (yes crowded for covid times) but also I had to wait for 25 minutes for our food. It was one sandwich that we split. Plus I had to go back in and check three times on the progress. Ugh. We've been going here since the fall of 2019. We love their selection / food quality. I'm a huge fan of their tuna on rye and their green juice is lovely (and not at a ridiculous price compared to NYC). I'm not sure where all of the negative reviews came from (previous mgmt / mgmt transition?), but I know our family will be continue to come here time and again. I saw some customers get really nasty with the staff about wait times during the height of the pandemic (um, order online like the rest of us if you're in a hurry).... I felt awful because the staff was clearly trying their best while managing a weird situation with covid and online demand vs in person. Let's all give each other some grace as we get through this. NEVER AGAIN After getting the wrong wrap which I paid $10 for I returned to the store to ask for a replacement. I was told that it was my fault since I did not check it before I left the store. She said she would give me 50% off the correct one. I would not have paid $1 considering I paid once and they are the ones who made the mistake. This is my first Yelp review ever bc I love the Cheese Shop that much. I've often referred to eating the Los Angeles as a religious experience. Not only is the staff as friendly as can be, the product is superior (and always fresh) to any place in town. The price is beyond fair and less than that of the neighboring staples of Southampton that is actual trash (yes I'm referring to the rip off of dare I say is GP). Not sure why people are complaining about time. It's like they've never ordered pick up or delivery. It always takes 30 minutes. It's called life guys. They need to prep your food. The Village Cheese Shop is serving the best sandwiches Southampton has seen in over 300 years. My go to breakfast is a scrambled egg with gruyere, avocado, and pickled jalapeños on a whole wheat wrap. For lunch I favor the French grilled cheese. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, and the service is impeccable. Kudos to the new management for upgrading the infrastructure inside and streamlining the ordering process. PS try the tuna salad - it's the best in Suffolk county. read more

Horrible place. Worst experience ever. We ordered sandwiches and were not told they didn't have anything but rye bread until they started to make them. I was very clear when ordering that I didn't want rye bread. They charged me $1.00 extra for gluten free bread which is not posted nor was i told. The managers were extremly rude to me, the customer. They got sarcastic when i asked their name. COME TO FIND OUT THE MAN AND WOMAN ARE THE OWNERS. YET ANOTHER LIE! I own my own business and i work everyday with my staff to make sure my customers get the best service possible. I want them to be happy. They matter! Don't waste your money. This place has turned terrible. I live locally and have gone probably a million times. Last week I asked for something simple, a lox bagel not toasted and she said yeah no problem. Five minutes later, she comes up to me asking what's lox?? Seems to be some unhappy campers with the service and lines during peak season but that is what happens during peak season unfortunately. I've eaten here numerous times during peak season and during the off season. They have a nice selection of cheese, wonderful sandwich options, and a fresh chopped salad station. No longer a local favorite. Been going to the cheese shoppe for almost 20 years. unfortunately, the new management its under has completely changed it for the worse. for 2 sandwiches and 2 seltzers it was $40. So sad. The interior has completely changed, and not for the good. they've made it much more unorganized, and are trying to get seating in areas that there are just no room for seating, all which using cheap furniture to do so. Floors need attention- look dirty and are needing some serious repair. Best part is how rude staff is. When I got the email asking how our visit was- gave an honest answer and they have sent repeated emails pretty much claiming we're wrong for not being happy with their store. they claimed everything is the same, just better ingredients. If staff/owner can't take responsibility for not having happy customers- they're just going to loose more customers. there are plenty of great places in town to go to instead. I'll be taking my business and clients elsewhere for sure. Don't waste your time or money here. Citarella is way better, and nicer. read more

Since years now, we've been grabbing sandwiches here before heading on to the beach. Their sandwiches are really good for the most part. Yesterday, my husband(incidentally a white guy) ordered sandwiches for himself and the kids. He collected their order at the counter and *then* headed to check out to pay. I, (I being an Asian/Indian woman) came in a bit later and ordered my sandwich. I waited a few minutes, then inquired if my sandwich was ready. The staff told me that I have to go to the counter and pay *before* I can get my sandwich! There was a lady next to me(incidentally white), who collected her sandwich and then came to the counter to pay! I asked the staff and the manager about this. The manager did not give a damn! Perhaps there's some discontent with customers of Village Gourmet Cheese Shoppe during high season, but when all of the wealthy tourists head back to their enclaves during fall and winter, this place is a pleasure to dine at. This speciality grocery/sandwich shop is a perfect stop when you're in Southampton and looking for a quick bite. They have an array of different sandwich options, salads, cheeses, drinks, etc...With enough seating to sit and enjoy yourself a while, it's a casual experience that's welcomed if you're on the go. But again, this is in fall. Summer is a whole other nightmare that I can't vouch for. read more

I ordered a caprese sandwich. It took a while but that's because they had 12 sandwiches before I placed my order. They have 3 panini presses and they warm your sandwiches the right way. The bread was perfectly toasted and all of the ingredients were warm on the inside. Price is standard for sandwiches in town but I'd recommend this place over others. For a deli to sell cups of coffee but then have a $10 minimum on credit card charges makes no sense to me. Maybe I'm alone in that thought?
