Went here this evening with my boyfriend. It wasn't crowded, probably a little over half full. We were seated right away. The hostess was friendly. There were some crumbs in my seat, which I understand does happen occasionally. The server, Josh, came to our table. He was pretty friendly, but I could tell he is inexperienced. My boyfriend was looking at their specialty drinks on the back of the menu and I just had the booklet with the list of liquor in front of me. The server asked if we wanted soda or tea and left it at that. I ordered my usual glass of Cavit and he ordered his usual "pain killer." Of course, we do look young and the server asked for our IDs (which, I would have been concerned had he not). I just think he could use a little help in still promoting the alcoholic beverages and never assume age (you're going to ID anyways). My boyfriend ordered an appetizer, fried cheese whatevers. Our drinks came out in about 5 minutes and the appetizer came out about 15 minutes after our drinks. Not great timing considering the lack of customers but not awful; we weren't in a hurry. We ordered our food when our drinks came out. I ordered the Baja chicken and my boyfriend ordered ribs and chicken tenders with broccoli and corn. Our food came out a bit after our appetizer. Our server noticed my boyfriend's empty drink and asked if he wanted another. My boyfriend ordered some other frozen mixed drink (something with cactus juice or whatever, I didn't pay attention). It looked good and he said it was amazing. The server came back to see if everything was alright and noticed my empty wine glass. Of course, I ordered another. While I waited, I went back to my dinner. The chicken was a little burnt and massively overcooked, but I'd rather have my chicken overcooked than undercooked (just not burnt). The black beans were good; I dove into those. There really wasn't much rice, maybe 3 tablespoons. But, again, worked out for me because I honestly don't care for rice. I was happy with my bowl full of black beans. Quite some time passed and the server passed several times, even with me attempting to wave him down. I still had no wine. I was almost done with my dinner before he came to check on us. I was irritated when he came back and said "oh, would you like another glass of wine?" Unfortunately, he caught the "I-had-a-rough-day-at-the-office-give-me-my-wine-NOW" part of me and I told him "yes, twenty minutes ago." I felt bad for getting a little snippy with him, but good grief. It's not busy and you completely forgot/missed all my attempts to wave you down. Fortunately for him, the bartender actually saw me trying to wave him down and holding an empty wine glass. She had poured the glass before he made it to the bar. Kudos to you, woman! You rock! The server was very polite and kept a good face the entire time. Once I had my "happy Jess juice" I was back to my dinner. My boyfriend said his food was good, except the broccoli, which he said was undercooked. Josh came back to the table to do the "did you guys save room for..." and of course, we were full. We got our check. $56 and some change. Not a bad price point at all.
All in all, Cheddar's is usually pretty good. It's nothing special but its not some Darden restaurant either. The prices are good. The food is decent. The drinks are awesome. The servers are friendly, but often inexperienced. With that in mind, please do tip your servers nicely. Remember they get garbage hourly pay and they are always friendly here. read more
