But 6 pm the bar was full and most of the tables were also filled. The tavern had good character, dark, woody...with photos of rick houses on the wall along with paintings of two fierce owls. We were greeted immediately and had the pleasure of being served by the most pleasant and efficient waitress. Enough choices for bourbon, some good drafts, and a deliciously made dry martini (along with a coffee for our tea toatler yesterday) started is off. There was a nice selection of specials for the day...some of which only a true southerner could appreciate (fruit gel topped with mayo, tomato spicy over cottage cheese topped with mayo) and some like cream of broccoli soup and steak boardelaise that even a yank could appreciate. Our table settled on two orders of fried catfish which came with a choice of two sides...baked potato and coleslaw were the choices. One of our diners choose the fried chicken livers that came with cream gravy...she chose the broccoli soup and corn pudding as her sides. Our tea toatler chose the country fried steak. I will term you that everyone cleaned their plates...it was that good. A final round of coffee, the OK from the waitress that we could pick some mint (which was planted in our garden at home) and we were off. Guess who is coming back? Me!!!

Cobbler was undercooked and not tasty (they gladly subbed in an orange/lemon cake which was great) bread pudding and cobbler both looked a little sad next to the cake portions. Perhaps think about human nature when you are pushing out desserts. It is very easy to feel let down when your dessert is tiny and your neighbor's dessert is huge! Just a thought. Recommend highly! The patio was perfect - only complaint was old eyes had a hard time seeing the menu as it got dark outside. Service was great - our waitress was attentive and got our order in perfect, plus was able to split up the checks with no issue. Complimentary rolls were served after we ordered - they are sweet rolls but nothing like Texas Roadhouse. Let's just say I was okay after one roll. I ordered the chicken pesto with baked potato and my daughter ordered the chicken wrap with fries. Everyone else at the table ordered steaks. The chicken was a little tough and overcooked, and the baked potato was very good. Tables outside were a bit wobbly so the table rocked while I cut into my chicken. My daughter liked her fries and chicken wrap. Overall it was a solid meal, but don't think we'll be back.

As for the service, it has always been very good. Our servers have been friendly and helpful. Overall, we have had great experiences at Cattlemen's and we look forward to many return trips.

The combo included a drink, but I was sad to see that although they have sweet tea, no unsweet tea was offered. My food arrived in five minutes are so. The sandwich was pretty good. It included one piece of fish, multiple dill pickle slices, and tartar sauce. The waffle fries were overly crisp and next time I would choose a different side. They do have an offer available for a free one piece fish and fries with purchase of a large drink if you fill out the survey on your receipt. For a quick lunch, LJS did the trick.

So we headed to Danville yesterday because we had a couple of things to do before our cookout last night. While we were driving we were thinking about something to eat, (but who isn't thinking of something to eat when your belly is growling? Anyways we get to Danville and we say "Let's go to Long John Silver's!!" We pull in and notice that there are a couple of people inside and cars in the parking lot. We get to the counter and it looks like they have a Fish and Coconut Shrimp platter on the menu. We both ordered that. A couple of things we noticed. 1: The lady who took our order was friendly, helpful and since Long John Silver's was paired with A&W Root Beer she handed me a cold mug that I could put my Root Beer in. We got our food and 2: The food was hot, fresh and oh BOY did it taste good too. The fish was tasty, the shrimp was good and the hush puppies were hot as well. Almost burnt my mouth with the Hush Puppy being hot. But when you're hungry, what do you do? Last time we came here we couldn't go inside because a worker that was working in the lobby just quit and so they didn't have anyone to clean the lobby after guests left. I can understand that. We soon discovered why! Our server was very friendly and checked on us a few times. We ordered the buffet and there was no shortage of hot and fresh pizzas available while we were there. They continually replenished the pizza bar. The salad bar was also a favorite, and I was glad to find their signature red dressing available for my salad. Overall this was a fantastic value for the money, and we even brought home a couple bags of my husband's favorite potato chips. I have no doubt we will visit again soon.
