Service was a bit chaotic. The hostess was having to leave the front to seat people which created a line of people to wait to be seated. Multiple waitresses were serving the same tables. We were seated but never greeted until about 11 min later. By this time we were ready to order. We ordered the potato skins appetizer. They were hot and flavorful but we've never had them served with diced tomatoes before. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich, seafood platter, and the catfish dinner. Our food was served hot. The pulled pork was good but a bit dry. The fish was cooked well and large portions. The shrimp was really good. The hushpuppies were different but really good. The cole slaw was tasty. The loaded baked potato was hot but a bit bland. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. We sat on the patio, but they also offer indoor seating. We have been here a few times. The food has been consistent. We love sitting on the deck, overlooking the river. On this visit, they were short staffed, according to our server. You really couldn't tell. Our drinks and food arrived in a timely manner. The fish and chips was delicious. The fish perfectly fried. I opted for sweet potato fries that were well seasoned and cooked like I like them. My mother ordered ribs. The portion was huge and she loved every bite. She still enjoyed the leftovers the following day. We will definitely be back! read more

Stopped in for the very first time. Around 11am on a Saturday. It was absolutely freezing inside the restaurant. Had to switch tables so we could sit in the sun. Another table had a heater box at their feet. My wife did like the beer cheese soup and the ultimate bloody mary was really good. The crap cakes were average and I won't order them again. We really enjoyed this meal. We have come here off and on over the last 25 years and not as much in the last 5 years but the last two times that we have come, we have really enjoyed it. I love the fried catfish dinner! The Shrimp and Grits are awesome too! The service is a bit lacking. They brought out the salad just a few minutes before all of the entrees and I believe there is no excuse for that. We really like the atmosphere and food is good. Make sure you make the drive during the daylight as the roads are curvy but very pretty. Cute place tucked in by the river. We had shrimp and grits over fried green tomatoes and their bbq ribs. We stopped on a whim because the last time we ate at Hall's was long before the flood of '21. The River House feel was not lost in the renovations. If you are looking to eat at a true Kentucky landmark, you won't be disappointed. The wait staff worked hard to make sure we were satisfied with our meals and in today's market, that means a lot to me. My fish and chips dinner was a nice change of pace for me. The fish was a dark golden color that tasted great. My wife had the catfish and it was better than my meal! The breading on her fish was perfect! Not too salty, a perfect light golden hue. We were seated. The restaurant wasn't busy. 20 minutes later, we were still not attended. Not even our drink order had been taken. After deciding to chase someone down, I was still treated as invisible, my presence unacknowledged until I demanded attention. After our wait, the food arrived cold and completely unsatisfactory. My wife and I stopped in for some food on Sunday evening about 6pm. Although there were numerous vacant tables available, we were told by the hostess there would be a 20 minute wait due to lack of staff. We decided to wait at the bar & have a beer. It took over 15 minutes to even get a beer from Morgan, the bartender/server. After waiting over 30 minutes we paid for our drinks & left. Been there many times over the years, but this was the worst experience. Why even open if you don't have an adequate staff? To top it off our "bartender" overcharged us by $11.25 and now no one answers their phone. Very sad for a historic place to offer such poor service. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Fort Boonsboro State Park for 12 days. There's not a lot in the meeting area, but we found this place to be fairly good. We had the same waitress and bartender on two of our four visits. The staff as a whole were very friendly and polite. The food was pretty good as well. The fried green tomatoes were yummy! I really enjoyed the beer cheese soup. The most spectacular dish was the banana pepper brined chicken wings. They were had a tempura batter as well. So yummy! They do have Wi-Fi, which makes it a bonus. We thought the decor was spot on for the area. Also thought the water level indicator of previous floodings was amazing! They are going to have a $60 buffet with there main offerings prepped the way you would prep a banquet, sliced put in a pan and then in a hot box. What the heck is up with restaurants serving subpar food in a buffet and then put a luxurious price on it? I know why they do it this way but put a reasonable price on it, at a 60 dollar price point there should be a carving station for both ham and turkey. This is the same place that charges you 12 bucks for 5 small potato skins so I'm not terribly shocked. read more

Yes, yes yes. I say this due to being able to make reservations, a family at five left everything they ordered and everything is price reasonably and they have a good drink menu. You can go the back way in your jeep or motorcycle and it's a beautiful drive and it's OK if you look a little rough when you go in. But you can also look nice and eat there too. We went here twice while camping nearby with mixed results. The first time was fantastic. Great service from Kesha and food was great, we had the fish and Chips and the crab cakes. Both were amazing. Second time was rubbish. We made the mistake of sitting in the bar area, of which the server looking after the bar served us when she remembered! We tried something different the New York strip and the shrimp and grits. Steak was run of the mill, shrimp and grits was a mushy mess, would not recommend. Fine dining in a relaxed setting either inside or out on one of the several decks which feels like you're up in a treehouse. We visited here on a Sunday and their weekend brunch menu is fabulous!! They are famous for their beer cheese and they incorporate it into their brunch signature dishes! The service is wonderful (most of the staff attend college nearby, so be sure to tip them well!). The ambiance is peaceful. I highly recommend sitting out back on the deck overlooking the creek. The beer cheese platter is a must!! Add the soft pretzel too! Ambiance is wonderful. Located on the banks of the Kentucky River. Both indoor and outdoor dining options. The interior looks like it would be super cozy in the winter with several fireplaces. The wait was somewhat long but they were short staffed the night we were there. My food was just ok but my husband's smoked chicken was amazing. Folks rave about the catfish. I ordered the Hot Brown which was super small and had very little meat in it. Add to that list the extremely high price and that's a NO from me. Drinks were excellent. My family got three entrees, Fish and chips , Alfredo and the Hamburger. All three out of 1-10 were maybe a 4. The waitress forgot part of our appetizers. Brought them later, but never returned to refill. The service was the main issue took 40 minutes after eating to get a check. Do not order the fish and chips they were slimy and this is the next day, and I'm still half ill from it. Just a bad dining experience all the way around. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because the outside dinning was nice, even if it's during the cicada invasion. I will not be back, and it's pretty expensive. We got none of it the first red flag should've been market price for prime rib which you can get over down at the outback for 30 bucks this place charge 40 bucks for a very, tasteless piece of meat that was fatty had no meat asked for mashed potatoes. Got a scoop of something cold dry looking like perhaps it came out of a box the waitress we asked her for an in cut. She just blew right past that question. The meat was not cooked the way we wanted it. I wanted mine rare Hertz well done they were all the same place a favor. Don't go off the road 20 miles out of your way to get down to Boonsboro very disappointed. read more

Stopped on while driving through the area. Overall, Hall's had decent food, but horribly slow service, the price relatively high compared to quality. Ambiance was good though. We went to Hall's on a Sunday, had no wait for a table, but when we were at the table the problems started. Very long lags between visits by our waitress. The place wasn't very busy, most tables were empty too. Other tables came after us and got their food before us (same entrees too). It took 1 hour to get our entrees and by that time our waitress had disappeared and we were grabbing any waitress we saw. Never got drink refills. Even then it took a while to get our check, had to ask 3 different waitresses. Food was good but not great. Quality similar to a Bob Evans overall. read more

I'm a fan because of its history and location. You cannot beat sitting out on the deck on a cool summer day - which we did - and watching people kayaking on the river below. It is perfection. The beer cheese is well famous. Apparently, it's the best you can find in Kentucky. I'm a relative newbie to such things, so I cannot compare it to other beer cheeses out there. My experience is limited to this one: Hall's beer cheese comes in a to-go container with all the nutrition facts on the label. It reminded me very much of the cheese you would get as a kid, the kind with crackers and the little red plastic stick. We had the spicy cheese, and it was tasty. Not too spicy, even for this wimp. My main meal was "meh." Pulled pork with greens. The BBQ sauce was pretty one-note, overly sweet. The greens didn't do much for me (I prefer Gus's). Next time, I hope to have the half chicken (which was sold out). I would go back, but not for the food so much as for the atmosphere. read more

Really appreciated that the waitress was super honest about everyone of her choices on the menu and why she had specific Preferences. Everything was on point; impressed by the location in the Kentucky hills and on the river, aesthetic of the buildings to fit in with the surroundings, wide array of menu items specializing in traditional southern charm, and feeling like a friend of the family as hosted by Ashley w tips about Halls menu, and the local area in general.
