Being my first year out of the Army, I have found it hard at times fitting in. So far, I may not know everyone but all the instructors and others training here have made me feel welcome and finally a part of something bigger than myself again which I really need right now. So excited for what this year brings training in BJJ.

The entire team has been instrumental in our children's success, both on the training mat and at competitions. My wife and I were both multi-sport athletes, but neither of us ever practiced or competed in combat sports so while we weren't sure what to expect, we both understood what effective teaching/training looked like. From the first day, it was evident that the team was focused on developing comfort and confidence in the new students. They were both immediately assigned to an experienced student who made them feel relaxed and walked them through both the drills and lessons over the next few days. They quickly went from being a little scared of joining a class full of students with varied experience levels to requesting to attend class every day of the week. Of all the extracurricular activities they had tried, this was the one that ignited their passion the most. The professor, Tom Cronin, and the entire team of coaches do an excellent job of keeping the kids engaged by balancing expectations with both fun and recognition. They have a great sense of each student and how to motivate them to excel. They also steer clear of pitfalls we were warned of by friends who have children attending other academies, specifically promotions based on attendance as opposed to merit. At this gym, the children are evaluated on their skills and ability to execute the requisite moves. This encourages them to excel instead of just casually participating. Within 9 months they had developed enough confidence to compete and we were blown away at how well they performed against the competition from around the country. Most importantly, they had a coach prepare them the week before with one on one training and he was the one who attended the competition to coach both of them through all of their matches. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for us, the academy doesn't just teach them BJJ, it reinforces core behaviors that we expect from our children - Respect, honor, and community. At the end of the day, we are all trying to raise the best humans we can and I can say with absolute confidence, that this academy is an integral part of that process for our children. I absolutely recommend Carlson Gracie, Temecula to anyone with any interest in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu.

I don't rush into reviews--I like to really experience a place first--and this gym has exceeded my expectations in every way. I originally started training here by myself, and now both of my kids train with me. They love it, and honestly, that speaks volumes. The environment is welcoming from day one. It doesn't matter if you're a doctor, lawyer, law enforcement, a mom or dad, or someone walking in off the street--once you step on the mat, everyone is treated the same. No egos, no nonsense--just a solid group of people pushing each other to be better. The professors are top-notch. They take the time to teach real jiu-jitsu the right way, breaking things down so students of all levels can grow. It's also pretty special to train alongside high-level practitioners while still feeling like part of the team. More than anything, this gym feels like family. The friendships I've made here--brothers and sisters on the mat--are ones I never would have found outside of jiu-jitsu. If you're looking for a place with great instruction, strong values, and an even stronger community, this is it.

I arrived at the gym, and signed a waiver and paid a drop-in fee. To my surprise, the fee was for a day pass with access to all classes (not a class fee). This gave me the desire to want to come back later that day to get in another class. The morning class was taught by coach Jonathan, there were about 10 people in attendance. Class consisted of warm ups/stretching, techniques, and live rolls. The night class was taught by Coach Geo. As he was greeting everyone he was familiar with, he shook my hand and greeted me as he didn't recognize me (thought that was really cool of someone who is so accomplished within the sport). This was a much larger class with about 40-50 people in attendance. Class consisted of warm-ups, techniques and live rolls. This academy has more than just Jiu-Jitsu for those who like to cross train in other martial arts or strength & conditioning. It was a solid day of training. Thank you for allowing me to drop-in and I would love to return again!

I wish I had had time to take more classes. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. As a woman, it feels a bit daunting walking into a BJJ class, but I felt at home and at ease almost immediately. The gym is clean; I loved the access to locker rooms and although I didn't use it, loved that they have a sauna available in the women's locker room. The class format was easy to follow and the instructor (Ricky) did a great job explaining the technique and giving feedback as he walked around. Thank you to Lauren for the warm welcome and tour when I arrived, and to all the "regulars" for helping me feel right at home!

But holy caca, I'm sure this guy marches when he goes shopping. I'm sure he only drinks razor water. I'm sure he wakes up to colors on his phone at max volume. I'm sure MREs are on the menus twice a week. My only goal was to take this jiu-jitsu journey with my kids. I was fat, obese, sick, and going through my own health issues. I was just coming off the couch for God's sake. I planned my schedule out (7Ps baby) so as to not injure myself. Did not want to set myself back for nursing a recovery. Started with two times a week at the morning class. Later in the evening I love to watch my kids... it was everything to me, the only real thing that gave me meaning at that time. This dude literally poking at me asking me why I'm not on the mats. My body got lactic acid and I'm sore all over. Took me about 3 to 4 days to recover. My family knows in the dead of winter I was going to the ocean in the morning for a cold soak to recover faster. This poking continued. Then his cult following chimes in. When I'd respond, he'd act like he's only making jokes. Then he's trying to peer pressure me into joining competitions. Not interested guy. I'm here for my health and kids. Stood my ground, yet he still would ask. So I talked to him to let him know my goals (key words: My Goals). Still same crap. Got to a point where I honestly lost respect for him listening to him on the line. Spewing things he doesn't follow. I'd be exhausted ready to puke with heart feeling like it was going to explode and dude really tells me its all in my mind. Cool, bench 315... oh you can't? It's all in your mind. Except anyone with basic common sense knows it's a limitation and as you get older, you should take safety seriously. I'd remind him of my health and what I'm comfortable with and he tells me about other members going through cancer still rolling on the mats. The culture there literally felt like "oh you got hit by a truck, wipe yourself off and get back on the mats. Oh you broke your arm, wrap it up and get back on the mats. Oh you got shot in the chest? Change your shirt and get back on the mats". To be on this journey with my kids was so important to me but I was having a really hard time listening to this hypocrite on the mats. But I wanted to train with my kids so I endured. I was struggling with suicide and he knew it. We talked about it. I had too much stress on my shoulders and started getting psoriasis. It took some time but when the psoriasis spread to my hands and feet, I had to stop. You can feel the judgment instead of genuine support when I'd go watch my kids roll. To my own surprise, I stopped going to watch my kids. I don't let ANYBODY influence my life but I was just exhausted, depressed, tired and defeated. It's a real shame. There was great people in that gym and all in all, I wanted to stay... but it became for the wrong reasons. Instead, I wanted to get strong so I can woop ass to prove myself in there. Sorry that's devolving and I knew it. I don't need to prove chit to anyone but G.O.D. Glad to say my kids and I are training at another gym and it feels incredible to roll with them again... certainly a highlight in my life. Was very depressed I wasn't able to roll with them but now... the journey continues. Yut Yut!!!

I have also started coaching, learning invaluable attributes and skills in instructing, especially with kids since I've been here. This has been my home gym since 2022 and with my time coming to an end 4 years later, I want to share my insight . My son began training here at just four years old, and over the past two years, he's gained so much confidence and skill, thanks to the amazing staff and environment. What sets this school apart is its balance: it offers a welcoming environment for beginners, focusing on fundamentals, while also providing a high-paced, competitive side for more advanced practitioners. This blend of fun and competition makes it a truly exceptional place for the whole family. A five-star experience all around! See you all on the mats when I'm back in town.

I dabbled w F-45 and CrossFit, ect looking to find a place to fit in. My search is done after years.., my home is here at Alliance Carlsbad. Jiu Jitsu (JJ) has changed my life- first I just love being on the mat rolling w strong athletes that are wise and safe hence rolling is fun and cerebral while my cardio gets hit hard. Alliance is the perfect place because it is clean, professional, has a fantastic supportive Women environment, and most of all there are so many bad ass instructors! Each one comes w his/her own unique style and skill set; hence your JJ game will be so diverse and sharp. Lastly they have so many classes to indulge in throughout the entire day, even yoga to stretch out and keep the longevity intact! JJ gets every joint and muscle to active so the heart glows n grows w love- I have been here for over a year n I simply love it. If you want to find community that will push you to new limits physically n mentally welcome. If you just want to start moving your body n try it out, welcome. JJ is a lifestyle that will roll w you till the end. See you on the mat! Tap tap
