I was able to drop-in on the 6 AM and 7 PM Jiu Jitsu classes. I had reached out via Instagram and got a response quickly. I arrived at the gym, and signed a waiver and paid a drop-in fee. To my surprise, the fee was for a day pass with access to all classes (not a class fee). This gave me the desire to want to come back later that day to get in another class. The morning class was taught by coach Jonathan, there were about 10 people in attendance. Class consisted of warm ups/stretching, techniques, and live rolls. The night class was taught by Coach Geo. As he was greeting everyone he was familiar with, he shook my hand and greeted me as he didn't recognize me (thought that was really cool of someone who is so accomplished within the sport). This was a much larger class with about 40-50 people in attendance. Class consisted of warm-ups, techniques and live rolls. This academy has more than just Jiu-Jitsu for those who like to cross train in other martial arts or strength & conditioning. It was a solid day of training. What a great gym! I was in town and decided to come in for a BJJ class. I paid for a day pass but only had time for one class - so many class options each day! I wish I had had time to take more classes. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. As a woman, it feels a bit daunting walking into a BJJ class, but I felt at home and at ease almost immediately. The gym is clean; I loved the access to locker rooms and although I didn't use it, loved that they have a sauna available in the women's locker room. The class format was easy to follow and the instructor (Ricky) did a great job explaining the technique and giving feedback as he walked around. Start a training here and I love it. Lots of gym space and different body types. And it's a one stop shop for all different martial arts.

The difference between this "gym" and a typical gym is like comparing steak to oranges. I wanted a place that pushed me to be my strongest and best self but gave me guidance so I wouldn't re-injure myself. I wanted a place where people were friendly and positive and where I could make a few friends 10th Planet Oceanside ticks all of those boxes and more! Despite having long history of physical fitness I was feeling defeated trying to workout on my own. I would inevitably injure myself. But I also didn't want to give up working out. Going to the strength and conditioning and mobility classes has kept me strong and active. I feel safe taking these classes because it's taught by a physical therapist! Bonus!! Plus the team environment at this class and the other classes has created new friendship. 10th Planet Oceanside is full of a wonderful group of positive people working side by side towards the same goal...health and longevity...it's also a lot of fun. I am blown away by how friendly everyone is. Everyone is genuinely positive and encouraging, and I mean everyone from the trainers, staff and other members. Being in my 50's I wasn't sure I'd fit in and truth be told I was a little intimidated by the professional fighters and world famous coaches. I soon learned everyone at 10th Planet Oceanside are very down to earth and welcoming. They offer various levels of memberships to fit almost anyone's needs. For me it's Strength & Conditioning on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, and Saturday mornings, Monday & Wednesday evenings, coached by Mike or Eli, bags, coached by AJ & mobility with Mike on Sat mornings. Loved working with Adam Castro and the other jujitsu coaches! Unfortunately these texts I received from the owner made my experience less than stellar. There's ways to handle situations and the condescending tones plus personal attacks about me as a person and social media were extremely unprofessional. This is how I was treated after giving my money to this establishment. They'll say "my payment was declined and blah blah. The reality is I didn't come in for months due to a shoulder injury plus life and other things so no cancelling or freezing a gym membership was not my top priority and rather than being met with gratitude for being a client and grace and understanding I received threats and harassment. I canceled my membership because of a new full time school opportunity. I went to go cancel last month in December they made it clear that I was not going to have to pay anymore. January 1 (happy new year everyone) rolls around another $175 taken out of my account. Sucks that they said I would not have to pay anymore and then here I go losing more money maybe it was in the fine print but why are things like this in the fine print if it's a really great business it sucks and there's no need to do that.I was made assure by the staff and the people helping me cancel the membership that I would not be paying again and that I should " come by as much as I can for the rest of the month" before my membership ended because I had already paid for that month. Really despicable and gross. I understand I may have signed the papers, but I also signed them after speaking with the representatives who are helping me end my membership that I was not going to be billed again. Very shitty. Very slimy. I guess it is Oceanside. Cant complain about how the city's changed and also complain when i get finessed every once in awhile lol. That being said the facilities are top class and their classes are amazing especially to new people but just really really shitty how they did me dirty. This place is awesome! The instructors are world class athletes and go to great lengths to make sure all students progress and reach their potential. I loved the atmosphere of the gym! It was my first time training Muay Thai and I loved it. The coach was very down to earth and encouraged perfect practice and repetition to solidify the techniques. Greatest gym I've trained at. Everyone is friendly including your training partners. They have morning, afternoon, and night classes. The coaches are personable and a great knitted team! I would suggest going to all the 101 classes, mastering warm ups, AND the strength and conditioning classes to start! It will definitely help you get conditioned faster as well as work on technique. I have somewhat of a wrestling background and am humbly learning that power and explosiveness does NOT work with a trained white belt. Lastly, make sure to make friends. One of the best things I did this year was join 10th planet Jiu Jitsu Oceanside. It was hard for me trying to find things to keep me active. I was having trouble losing weight and finding the motivation to do it. I joined in May of the year and til now I have already lost 30 pounds.
