My Jake and Iceman Oli-vz, twin boys go to Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu. They are only 7 and are looking amazing out there. The skill level of the instructors prove to be of great professionalism. The Team here at Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu is great! Our kids have been going here for about 6 months now and they love it! Professors Aaron and Elijah run a tight and clean gym. They, along with the other coaches, really take the time to make sure the kids are learning in a safe and friendly environment. If you're looking for a fantastic gym, attentive staff, and wonderful family environment this is the gym for you. Our kids come 5 days a week (they would come more if they could), all for one flat fee...the value is amazing! I'm so glad that we found and joined the Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu family! read more

My child has been attending Carlsbad Jiu-Jitsu for about a year, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. Led by coach Aaron and Elijah, all the coaches are highly skilled, patient and encouraging. They also know each child and address them by name! 7 1/2 years later, my daughter still loves training BJJ at Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu. She is 14 years old now, and has spent more than half her life learning and growing here. She went from the kids competition team to training on Zoom during the pandemic... and now back to in-person training. This would not have been possible if it weren't for the supportive environment provided by the professors, coaches, and kids here. Although my daughter is no longer competing, she still enjoys training, maintaining her strength and skills, and seeing her friends in class! We still highly recommend this gym read more

Great place and good viibes. As a newbie I am learning from everyone. Qualified instructors and students. Was only going to come for a few months and now 7 months later feel will be a student for life. read more

This is a very high quality experience. We have been going with my 7 year old for the past six months. Aaron is the owner and one of the instructors and is amazing...that said all of the other instructors are equally as good. They all have a very unique way of creating an environment that is fun, but always full of respect. I also want to mention that it's clear Aaron has a pride of ownership as this facility is always SPOTLESS. We have tried another jiu jitsu facility in Carlsbad, but was not nearly as impressed with what Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu offers. read more

Thoroughly impressed with the level of instruction and dedication to each individual student at Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu. Both of my kiddos train here and it has been so great to see their progress. Aaron and Elijah have both shown a unique ability to not only connect with my kids, but to meet them at their level, pair them with appropriate partners, and help them work through challenges. This is a top tier jiu jitsu academy in the region. read more

We have been taking our son here for about 6 years and we have had nothing but an amazing experience at this academy. We started at another academy where our son got his grey/ white belt and came to Carlsbad jiu jitsu soon after. He is now a yellow / white belt and his journey under professor Aaron and professor Elijah has been awesome to witness. We couldn't recommend this place more. In the past when we were looking at academies it was very hard to find a place you can call home and that is family friendly for your kids and young children as well. And we definitely found that and more at Carlsbad jiu jitsu read more

I have nothing but positive things to say about Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu. Aaron and Elijah are great instructors and are able to teach to a wide range of students, from children to adults, hobbyists to competitors. Everyone here is very helpful and approachable, the facilities are always spotlessly clean, and class schedules are very accommodating. All around this is a great place to train. read more

In my 8 years after wrestling I always felt like I was missing something that I needed dearly in my life. Recently I came across Carlsbad jujitsu and in the few weeks l've been here, I haven't felt this happy in years. The Professors are outstanding and the people here are the most welcoming individuals you will come across. I highly recommend coming in and at least doing the free trial. After the first day I was sold and I can confidently say I will be here for a very long time!! read more

We have even moved all the way to fallbrook but would never ever leave. This place is excellent for kids and adults. Whether you or your child want to build a skill/take on a new hobby or engage the sport competitively, there is not better jiu jitsu academy. The owners and coaches are genuine and care about the progress of all students, as well as maintain solid professional and a clean, well-maintained facility! Check them out, you won't want to go anywhere else. read more

This program is amazing! I don't have another club to compare it to but wow is all I can say! These coaches/professors are amazing and they treat the kiddos so well. They know exactly what they are doing. Their communication is phenomenal and pricing is fair. Very impressed and would never want to go anywhere else but here. Unfortunately for us we are moving away so it is going to be very hard to find another place to measure up to Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu. read more

My 8 year old son started here recently and absolutely loves it! He looks forward to his sessions. His enthusiasm was so strong that my daughter (6 years old) was also motivated to join and loves it as well. The owner and staff are so wonderful with the little ones - kind, friendly, but firm. You can tell they have a genuine love and joy for teaching children their passion. The studio itself is very clean and large, so great for active classes safety and movement wise. We have nothing but positive things to say about this studio. Coincidentally, I have also seen an improvement in my son's mood - I think it gives him the perfect opportunity to get out his energy and power in a disciplined and positive way. If you're thinking of trying it out for your little ones to get started in jiu jitsu, I would not hesitate! read more

We have been training here for over 6 years. Our two boys have grown up here. The Professor Aaron is amazing and he has treated them like his own children and taught them how to handle life's challenges and become better young people. He has also taught them word class Jiu Jitsu and coached them to multiple world championships. He gives the same amount of attention to the kids that want to do jiu jitsu for fun the same way he treats the competition team kids. Learning jiu jitsu has helps my boys confidence and they have become more successful in school and their other sports. I highly recommend learning jiu jitsu and definitely recommend Professor Aaron and this gym. They have multiple high level belt coaches who also care and train the kids excellent technique at the gym. Try it out and see if it's the family gym for you. read more

My family attended Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu several years ago, and we recently returned after a nearly 5 year hiatus. Professor Aaron is just as wonderful now as he was 5 years ago, not surprisingly. He is very professional and is fantastic with children, teens and adults as always. I am pleased to see so many familiar faces from our prior years here; people tend to stay and continue their training. It is like a family. I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

GB Carlsbad is as good as they come. I have 15 years of martial arts experience, a third-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, and a few years of boxing/Greco roman wrestling but WOW GB Carlsbad is where it's at. BJJ is practical, fun and one heck of a workout. Don't hesitate, don't sit on the fence, take a small risk and get yourself or your loved one taught how to defend themselves. The gentle art of folding clothes while someone else wears them is an exciting way to spend a few hours a week, one that I recommend.. Their excellent culture represents real North County vibes and their instruction is top-notch. If you think you aren't 'ready' yet, because you want to get in better shape, just dive in. read more

This is a world class facility. Aaron is as passionate of an owner/instructor as I have ever witnessed - same enthusiasm runs thru every other instructor as well. Quality, attentive instruction. Warm, welcoming environment. Fun and supportive training partners. Top notch facility. I dropped in for a visit while in Carlsbad. All I can say is WOW! Our family was on the verge of signing up with another school and fortunately found Gracie Barra Carlsbad just in time. The moment we walked in, we could feel the positive energy! While we've only just started with the school, it's already been an INCREDIBLE experience. Aaron runs a clean, tight, friendly and fun ship. He knows all of the students by name, is super intentional with each interaction, and is just an all around amazing human. The sign up process is simple, the membership is affordable, and the requirements are flexible. Even every fellow member we've interacted with has been friendly, easy to talk to, and welcoming toward our family. The environment is absolutely beautiful, filled with respect, and the ratio of instructors to students they've chosen also fosters true learning. I could probably write a full 5 paragraphs on how impressed we are but I'll spare you. We are so fortunate to have found Aaron and the Gracie Barra Carlsbad team! read more

I began training at Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu about two and a half years ago. I started my jiu jitsu journey as a result of a great deal of encouragement from friends who train there. I was anxious at the beginning, having never been involved in any sport of this nature. I tend not to be an aggressive person and it all seemed so intimidating! I was so wonderfully surprised to be welcomed into the gym by the professors and those who'd been training there for years. From day one, I've been given so much patience and encouragement to stick with and to grow more with each session. Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu provides a positive environment for both newbies and those much further along on the journey. It also needs to be mentioned that there are several women who train there! This has certainly played a role in my desire to train and my comfort doing so. That said, the men I have trained with there have been incredibly respectful and kind, adjusting their training to my level and size. I have only positive things to report about this gym! read more

Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu - Inspired by a black belt - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Carlsbad, California

My background: 7 years of Taekwondo, 3 months of Judo, and limited experience grappling. I practiced here for 4 months. Beginners Class: I was very impressed with the methodology of the instruction. The program has a set syllabus that you can follow along. The class starts with a stand up technique that will take down the opponent and continues with techniques on the ground. The speed of the class is just right so people that are starting out can pick up techniques and those who have been there can keep improving. Dojo Environment: Belt promotions are not done by test. It's done by the instructors observations of how well you grasp the techniques, your attitude, and attendance. I think this approach has an unintended positive result. The students don't see each other in competition with each other but rather as competition with themselves. It is a controlled environment and students utilize controlled force, when someone has "tapped" you out they share what you did wrong and how you can defend it. I also like the fact that students and instructors won't hesitate to stay after class to show you a thing or two. GI: Good or bad depending how you look at it. You have to use a Gracia Barra GI. Good think is that it builds a sense of uniformity, professionalism, and cohesion. Bad thing is that the Gracie Barra Gi is not great quality. But you have the option of buying your own and then sewing all the patches. Facilities: There is plenty of parking, the gym is new, clean, and well kept. I can't believe the change rooms still smells good after so many sweaty people have changed there. Overall: It was a really good place to grasp the basics of Jujitsu, I moved away so I can't talk about the advanced classes. Jusok and Aaron were really good instructors! read more

It's official, my family is hooked on BJJ and on Gracie Barra Carlsbad! My husband and I had tried out several different BJJ gyms around North County and none made us feel more welcome than Gracie Barra Carlsbad. Our daughters (ages 5 & 8) both love going to their class and have already made so many new friends. Coach Aaron has a real talent for teaching those young and old. Another great thing about GB Carlsbad is that there is a healthy group of ladies that train here. The overall environment is accepting, family friendly and extremely supportive. I'm so glad we found Gracie Barra Carlsbad and the great group of people who train there! read more

My daughters had been taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Encinitas from about age 10 & 11 in the kids class. We moved to Carlsbad recently and checked out the new Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu facility after taking the summer off of classes. My 2 girls are now 14 and 15 years old at the time of this post and can't really train with the kids class anymore. I was worried they wouldn't be comfortable training with adults. Two interesting things happened: 1.) I finally gave it a try myself. Wished I didn't wait so long to do it. I absolutely love it. Everyone in the class is so helpful and it's a seriously great workout. 2. I started bringing the girls to the adult class with me. That led to a pile of teenage boys in the class and now we have a great mix of adults and teens in all weight ranges to spar with. I love the way they teach us a technique or two, break it down slowly and then we get to train with a partner at full speed to submission. No other martial art can prepare someone (girls especially) to be comfortable with a larger, stronger person trying to control them. They know exactly what it feels like to have a much heavier, stronger person on top of them and what to do about it. 20% of females report being assaulted by college age. That's scary. Get yourself and your girls into the classes. See you there! read more

When two ladies were killed years ago by a mugger on a running trail, I wanted my daughter to learn how to defend herself. So I chose Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since this art uses leverage and not strength to defend yourself with, especially since most fights or women that get attached end up on the ground and Jiu Jitsu is a self defense ground art. My daughter and I joined a couple of years ago. I couldn't be happier. The instructors are fantastic. There is a family atmosphere to their location, which is refreshing to see. My daughter, now 14, has enjoyed every class. She submits boys larger than her on a regular basis, which has really increased her confidence that she can handle herself, god forbid if she was ever attacked. She also enjoys competing in their local competitions. Also, the fact that I can go to ANY Gracie Barra location really helps with my work schedule since I sometines bring my daughter with me to work. This location is actually closer that the Encinitas location where we originally signed up. Taking classes at Gracie Barra is the perfect way for you or your children to learn a great self defense art that will build up ones self confidence. read more

Every class I've been to has had an excellent vibe. All of the students I've trained with are friendly with great attitudes, and everybody is committed to practicing technique or perfecting their game. It's one of the most intense workouts you'll ever do, but it's completely fulfilling. Yes, you will sweat. Monday/Wednesday lunch sessions are where it's at for all of you that find it hard to get away after normal working hours. Myself and a few coworkers hit this session consistently, so it's a nice way to break up your work day. Also, you should tell me if my Yelp review was what convinced you to roll. I would probably get some weird nerdy kick out of that. I might even let you submit me. Maybe. read more

I have been training at Gracie Barra Carlsbad for about two years now. It's a great gym. The lead instructor, Professor Aaron, has incredible technical skills as well as the ability to easily communicate details to his students. The gym has high ceilings, lots of light and roll up doors so there is always a breeze blowing through. (Considering my last gym in New York City was in the basement of a high rise, the breeze is an incredible plus.) For anyone who is slightly unnerved at the idea of training in a new martial art I can tell you that the gym is modern, extremely clean, and filled with great training partners who are there to learn. I recommended the gym to my neighbor to get his son into classes and they love it as well. read more
