Great spot for late night pizza or wings. We ordered ahead of time, and played arcade games in the lobby for about 5 minutes while they finished getting our order together. I will be back if I have another late night like this one.

We're back 2 years later and it's still as amazing as we remembered. It was our first stop after landing because we were so excited to have it again.

Had that late night each for pizza on my way home from catching a show and always know Checkers has me covered with their late hours on island! Put the order in online and had a little time to spare on arrival, so I played good o'game of pac man and asteroid while I waited. Love the free vintage games here as it reminds me of old pizza parlors as a kid. Casual atmosphere as always and friendly welcome by the staff just like every other visit!

Nastaglia! Arcade games that I grew up with and of course the checkered couch that I love! The pizza is one of the best i have ever had! Hawaiian Deluxe with green peppers! Yes, pineapple belongs on pizza!

This place has become a neighborhood staple for us! We get them at least monthly. We're originally from NY, so I was quite happy when I found out they have a pepperoni new york style crust. Yes, you can fold it in half and eat it with one hand! (We add hot honey when we're home.) We also tried: - Hawaiian (subtly sweet, balanced) - Veggie (very cheesy and stuffed with veggies) - Spinaci Rigot (spare sausage, delicious cheese, spinach. Our new fav) They're all very good! The service is always very kind. I've seen the owner greet customers regularly. Be mindful that orders always take 20-30 mins so forget whatever seamless or Uber eats tell you. I just shop around the area or time my arrival. We never stayed to eat but there are a handful of tables. Very retro decor, from the clock to the pinball machine. It's quite charming! Definitely give them a try!

We stopped in for a late night bite. Pizza is delicious. Free OG arcade games and pinball. Staff super nice. I can't recommend this place enough.

In a random strip mall on West Main Road stand Checkers. Big signs saying NOW OPEN let you know to come on in. Inside is a retro vibe, with Pac-Man machines and the Three Stooges playing on the big screen. After a warm greeting, our order was taken and we sat in the dining area until our pie was ready. The pizza arrived, glossy and PIPING hot. A little greasy from the pepperoni but I like it that way. After 4 slices it was still so hot it could burn my mouth if I wasn't careful. The cheese had great taste and great pull. Picture worthy, for sure! The sauce was savory, robust and a stand out of the pie. The crust was crispy from first bite to last and full of flavor. This isn't the first time I've been to Checkers and it certainly won't be the last. Solid pie, probably one of the best on Aquidneck Island

Tucked into a modest two-business strip mall in Middletown, Checkers Pizza isn't trying to be anything it's not. And that's precisely what makes it worth seeking out. As you walk in, you're greeted by a space that embraces classic pizzeria aesthetics without self-consciousness. Red metal chairs surround tables topped with red-and-white checkered table covers. The counter's distinctive checkerboard trim frames stacked pizza boxes waiting for their next destination. A vintage 1970 baseball pinball machine stands in the corner, while The Three Stooges play on the television. Figurines of Larry, Moe, and Curly perch above the Coke cooler (kept diplomatically separate from its Pepsi counterpart). Dave offers a genuine welcome - one of those increasingly rare local pizza men who clearly enjoys feeding his community. There's something refreshingly straightforward about the whole operation. The pizza arrives quickly, on a metal stand, with actual plates with real silverware ("pinky up service" says Dave). The golden-brown crust forms a perfect foundation, achieving that perfect balance between crunch and chew. Every bite offers satisfying resistance before giving in with a crisp crackle. The edges display those telltale microblisters that demonstrate proper oven heat and timing. The house-made sauce brings brightness and subtle acidity without overwhelming the other components. It's applied with precision - not too sparse, not too heavy-handed. The cheese performs its supporting role admirably, melted to that ideal consistency where it stretches without becoming stringy or greasy. As for toppings, the pepperoni cups slightly at the edges (always the mark of quality meat properly rendered), while black olives provide briny counterpoints. Everything is distributed evenly - generous without being excessive. What truly sets Checkers apart is their commitment to making everything in-house from scratch. The dough, the sauce - it all begins and ends here, and that dedication shines through in every bite. The result is pizza that satisfies deeply without pretension or gimmicks. The Stooges on TV, the baseball pinball machine, the checkered tablecloths - none of this feels calculated. It just is what it is, unapologetically. Checkers reminds us why independent pizzerias matter - they preserve traditions worth keeping while delivering honest food made with care. If you're tired of Instagram-optimized dining experiences or corporate pizza chains, Checkers offers the perfect antidote. This is pizza made by people who understand that sometimes, the classics don't need reinvention - they just need to be done right.

Onion pizza

David cooked a perfect pizza. We ordered onion. Thin crust. No crowd when we stopped on our way to Newport.

This place has outstanding vegan pizza. There were a lot of options to choose from. I would love to go back and try them all! Staff were friendly and the place has a retro vibe.

Very accommodating and pleasant. 4 of us had a few beers/ wine ...frosted glasses made it even better. Cheese sticks were crispy with a very good taste. Pepperoni pizza was tasty. A tad more dough for my liking but very flavorful with plenty of cheese and pepperoni. Overall a nice place with a decent pizza. Not many places that are as good in Newport.

We ordered a large cheese pizza, wings, a bowl of soup, & two meat lover's slices. The wings and soup arrived within minutes, but then we waited over 30 minutes for the cheese pizza & another 15 minutes for the two slices. It made no sense, especially with how quiet the restaurant was. During that time, no one checked on us, apologized for the delay, or refilled drinks. The biggest surprise came with the bill. There was an automatic 20% gratuity added for our party of six (!). We've eaten at countless restaurants & have never been charged automatic gratuity for six people (esp with our party being 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 kids). We were also charged $1.50 for a side of ranch that was brought out with the wings without us requesting it, plus $3.50 each for soda water from the fountain. The pizza itself was actually quite tasty, but unfortunately the poor service , long wait and unexpected charges brought the experience down

Hands down...delicious! I had the special with scallops,…read moreangel hair and capers. The scallops were cooked to perfection. And the sauce was lemony and salty. My side was the Caesar salad. Just the right amount of salt and pepper! Delicious. My hubby got the chicken and waffles. That gravy, oh my goodness! Bomb. Atmosphere is eclectic but fun. Service is TOP TIER!!!! The he place was packed and I see why. Also, I have an allergy to cinnamon. Going anywhere in October, I can be subjected to cinnamon. Our server, Melanie...amazing (ask for her), she made sure to tell the chef about my allergy. Wanted to order a dessert, but she asked the chef and he advised I could not due to possibility of having cinnamon. Very gracious server and chef!

We had reservations for 6PM but arrived shortly after 5PM. They were gracious enough to accommodate us immediately. Our server was friendly & attentive but very inexperienced. My friend ordered Salmon Piccata & she had no idea what that was... she thought it was served with scallops & pasta! We had to explain that Piccata was a sauce with capers; again, she didn't know what capers were. Fortunately, the kitchen understood the order & my friend received the correct dish. Unfortunately, the ends of the salmon were dry & inedible. However, she did enjoy most of the fish & the sides (mashed & veg), and there was enough to bring home. She also had a cider cocktail which, with the sugared rim, was a little too sweet. She would have liked a bit more cider, too. I had the patty melt with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was large & very good. I'm not a huge fan of thick-cut sweet potato fries; if I had known I probably would have opted for another side, as there's a $3 upcharge. The pickle was fantastic! I also had a glass of J. Lohr Cab, which was a good sized pour for $11. Prices were reasonable. Parking is always an issue in Newport. There is metered street parking & paid lots. Beware, parking is diligently monitored & tickets are $60!

Luckily, they were still accepting walk-ins, so we were able to get a table! We ordered the cacio e pepe and penne alla vodka, and both were delicious! I especially appreciated that they offered gluten-free pasta options, which made it much easier for us to dine here. I also absolutely loved the ambience inside! The restaurant has such a cozy, charming atmosphere that makes it a great spot for date night. Between the delicious pasta, gluten-free options, and lovely setting, I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're visiting Newport!

Newport was definitely crowded with visitors like us from everywhere. There was an also a marathon taking place the next day, so the town seemed to be carb loading. Every restaurant was full of hungry guests. Pasta Beach was no different. We were able to eventually get two seats in the pasta bar area. I quite enjoyed watching the gentlemen cook. They didn't miss a beat, as they quickly put out dish after dish with efficiency. The waitress service was satisfactory. The woman at the pasta bar was friendly enough but didn't seem overly interested in asking us if we wanted any more of anything. Upon chatting with her she shared that it was a fairly busy month and that she felt, it was definitely nicer when only the locals attended the establishment. Our entrees were flavorful. We ordered the Spaghetti with clams in white wine sauce and the penne ala vodka. The penne was rich and creamy. However, the fried chicken cutlet we ordered as an addition to the penne was dry. The pasta and clams were also good, and had a nice pepper flavor which came through at the end of each bite. We did order the fried calamari and shrimp appetizer. It only brought three fried shrimp which were nicely fried. Unfortunately, the calamari was also overcooked and dry. We did enjoy our time in Rhode Island and will return again, but I'm not sure yet if I would return to this establishment specifically. There are plenty of local food options to try in Newport.

What a lovely and quaint location on a Main Street location heading to Newport Marina! We were…read morehighly recommended by a wonderful and intelligent young woman to try this spot for Breakfast if we are in Newport! We took her advice and yes this place was quaint, inviting and very busy but it was a holiday in A historic Newport! We waited briefly to sit outdoors in the bright morning sun which was very close to the 12 O'Clock time! We did sit for a long while before being approached even for coffee or welcoming us but we all understood it was busy for 1 to handle maybe 7 tables that were filled! But, at some point I had to get up and go inside to politely say we had been waiting longer than one should expect! A moment or two our waitress came to take our beverage order and then after enjoying our coffee she came to take our Breakfast order, I chose the Holiday Special Omelette, which were two listed! The Shrimp and Prosciutto Omelette with Avocado sounded Amazing so that was my Choice! We all ordered! When it all arrived we took photos of each and they all looked very tasty! Anticipating my breakfast I delved into my Omelette and ate a bite and it was very tasty, took another bite still very tasty.....I paused and wondered " Where is the Shrimp and Prosciutto and Avocado?" I told my family member, I don't see either, we joked she said "maybe it's chopped... ". So, I flagged the waitress and asked her if this is what I ordered and she said, " She made a mistake thinking there were only one Special Omelette and apologized and will have one made immediately! I said Ok, she left and we joked about the Staff and then THE OMELETTE ARRIVED! It was spectacular looking and even better tasting! Unfortunately, my family already finished but it was OK! We sat still enjoying more coffee and then without being aware accidentally spilled coffee on my families slacks but we chose NOT to mention it! It was obviously this Waitress should have had additional help to take care of the outside guests! She was polite and did her best but she was overwhelmed! She brought the Check and she did mention she would remove my Omelette from the Bill as a courtesy for the error! That was acceptable and nice of this Cafe to do that! The Food was Excellent The Location outside was Nice The Service was a comedy of errors! The Day was Still wonderful!
