It took me awhile to leave this review because I had mixed feelings. Geric was easy to work with, communicative, and on time. However, he only tested the areas that I pointed out and did not do an inspection of the whole house. When he got to the house, I walked him around and showed him spots where we had visible mold and where I suspected mold. Those were the only areas he tested. I thought he would do a full inspection of common areas that might have mold, like kitchens and bathrooms. We found out a couple months later that one of the spots he didn't test (under the kitchen sink) had mold that had been there for awhile. Do NOT trust the results for mold detection from Geric or anyone else at this company!!! He does not conduct the tests properly and I even called him out on it. He is unethical and is NOT certified by a recognized state agency. My apartment has visible black mold, 4 types of mold total. We needed a mold inspection sooner rather than later, and I called another company who would not check the outside of our house, though that was where the suspected problem was. I was beside myself about an apparent (and worsening) mold issue at my rental home in La Crescenta. After consulting about 300 sites for info and hiring 2 other companies (at ~$550 each) to come and inspect my home, I happened upon Geric at "Check for Mold" (or Checkformold.com). INDEPENDENCE: The first thing I noticed about this company was that they are not testers-remediators. They are testers only. Thus, they do not have any conflicts-of-interest impacting their sampling and reporting. This was a very important credential to me and should be to everyone. IMPRESSIVE KNOWLEDGE, NO SALES PITCH- Geric was able to go toe to toe with me on my tough questions and sounded like he knew even more than this self-proclaimed "Mold Maven" did - especially about the building science aspect and proper mold sampling protocols. His pitch was like a non-pitch. He didn't try to sell me his services at all. He sounded like the lab partner I copied off of in high school, only cuter and more genial. SERVICE: Geric was very flexible in his scheduling, agreeing to come early on a Saturday morning (of a holiday weekend, no less) in spite of having multiple appointments that day. He arrived 5 minutes early and set right to work while asking me questions. Even though I was only purchasing samples, Geric gave me the time and attention that he would have devoted for a full-scale inspection with samples (I know, because I had already paid for 1 dud inspection and 1 "ok" one). Geric also listened to all my protracted theories about the mold source and cause, and he thoughtfully contemplated each of them. PRICING: After I mentioned that I would probably want to get about 10 samples at $75 each, (fyi: my other inspector, CSI Mold, was going to charge me $100+ per sample), Geric said that I would really only need 7 samples and proceeded to explain why. (talk about integrity; this guy talked me out of giving him an extra $225!). RESULTS: Geric then told me that he would have the results and report ready for me in 3 days. On the morning of the 3rd day, there it was-sitting in my email inbox: a bright and shiny report, replete with lab results from an accredited AIHA lab (that part was super important to me, as the results would have been dismissed by my landlord if they weren't from a legit lab). My first mold inspector didn't even bother to send me a report; the second one took well over a week-and that was without samples. The report was easy to understand and summarized the issue succinctly and clearly. I now knew the areas to focus on for remediation. Moreover, I knew the types of mold that I was facing down. OVERALL: Geric was superb. He outperformed both of my other "highly recommended" inspectors and charged far less. I could not be happier with this outcome.
