I always go for the brown sugar matcha boba drink (I do not think I typed that out correctly) but it's something like that. It is one of my favorite boba drinks in the Twin Cities. Everytime I go I get this same drink. I really like it with tiny boba. I feel they are odd at first but then once you get used to them I like it a lot. We were the first customers and arrived right as it opened at 10:30AM; door unlocked. The lady behind the counter did not welcome us at all. Instead, she told us we had to wait because they had just opened. She did not look like she wanted to be there, nor wanted us there. Shortly after I arrived, two separate customers arrived and she gave them the same treatment. One guy must have been an Uber Eats order. She told him it'll be 20 mins. He had to cancel the order and walked out. 15 mins after arriving, I finally ordered two exact drink. She prepared them separately, which was fine. Really good and creative signature drinks!! I had the Sereni-tea and it's a combination of mango, green tea and lavender. Everything is really good and the pearls are nice and soft. Good hangout place but the snow ice (Bing Ice) could use some improvements. The texture were certainly spot on but the taste seemed to be missing something - can't describe exactly but fairly mediocre as it is. Another funny thing to notice is the matcha milk tea doesn't really taste like matcha. Though, the pearls offered are fairly chewy and flavorful in its own rights. I unintentionally stopped by ChaYes as I was in the area for Trung Nam's croissants and decided to stop in to try a boba drink. I pulled into their lot and found it was very easy to find parking. Immediately upon entering I noticed several open tables along the windows & comfortable chairs in front of the register where a family was enjoying their drinks. The gentleman in the front was very friendly & asked if it was my first time in. I decided to go with the Razzle Dazzle and asked if they had WiFi. He happily replied they did and included the WiFi information on my receipt. Initially I had planned on just grabbing a drink to go but since there were several tables open & WiFi I decided to stay to study. For studying, the music can be loud but if you plan to stop by with friends to hang out then the volume isn't distracting. They play a good mix of Taiwanese music & I even recognized some songs from Meteor Garden's soundtrack. Being surrounded by some of the most amazing Boba shops in the LA area, I normally do not have high expectations for boba in the Twin Cities when I'm in town--but this place was surprisingly decent. The boba was perfectly made--not too hard or soggy. The drink was a bit sweet but I forgot to ask for less sweetness. It didn't taste extremely syrup-y & artificial like many other boba drinks I've had in the Metro area. My kids and I tried the strawberry and matcha shaved ice. The strawberry had too much of an artificial taste along with the matcha (maybe the condensed milk had something to do with it too), but the toppings were good. We got individual sizes but I would say it's a good size to share between 2 people. We also tried some macaroons and it was ok (not as chewy as we like it to be). I read some good reviews about the drinks so I think we'll give that a try next time. Been totally hyped for this place to open, considering there aren't many of these places open in town that are good. Closest is Tii Cup, which recently opened up another store in Roseville, but is still a bit of a trek from the dense Asian areas of U of M and University Ave. This new shop is a greatly needed addition to both the variety of Asian as well as legit Taiwanese/Chinese offerings in the Twin Cities. With my initial visit on opening weekend, I ordered the matcha milk (green) tea. The matcha milk tea with boba is pretty spot on. Not too sweet, slightly creamy in flavor. Boba is also spot on, chewy with a slight licorice/anise flavor, but not overcooked, but also with the subtle matcha flavor. It for sure beats Chatime hands down. The shaved ice is where it's at, though. I ordered the taro ice with lychee jelly, grass (herbal) jelly and red bean with condensed milk. The great thing is that the ice is flavored and isn't like the shaved ice cream that Tii Cup serves (though it has an undeniably much smoother texture there). The flavor is subtle and not as sweet, yet you have the ice crystal chew that throws me back to the days as a kid eating shaved ice in Houston, however, purists may not consider this to be real "Taiwanese shaved ice" because of the ice crystal texture. The addons are not super sweet, either, and the condensed milk just gives a very nice smooth and creamy finish to the whole shaved ice experience. The serving size is generous, and I didn't feel like I was being sugar overloaded. One of the big positives is that there are a lot more flavor offerings for shaved ice compared to Tii Cup. The biggest negative is that there is no fruit that's offered here to go with the shaved ice (just jelly and boba and pudding), and I hope that will change in the near future (or next year when the fruits are in season). The lack of fresh fruit currently is why it gets 4 stars. I'm a bit of a purist and one who wants to see better and legit Chinese/Taiwanese food in the Twin Cities. If you want some Taiwanese/HK eats with your boba/shaved ice, Tii Cup is your place to go, but I hope they do start to do some Chinese/Taiwan snacks/dishes when they get more established to add some needed Chinese and Taiwanese variety to the Asian food scene in town. For now, there seems to be some plans to get into Vietnamese street food, and expanded drink offerings. I'm excited to see what they'll bring next, but I hope he doesn't get too ambitious to quickly after opening. They faces stiff competition from surrounding restaurants offering boba and Vietnamese eats, but I think this place will do well if they focus on the original boba and shaved ice staples. I can see college kids from both ends of the Green Line and in between riding the Metro to get boba and shaved ice there. If the shop sticks around long enough, I hope to see them at the Minnesota State Fair, as the food selection there is in sore need of cultural diversity. Edit: I've been told that, apparently, the store does offer fresh fruit, which I didn't seem to see on the menu screens at the front. I'll need to visit again soon to try it out, and update the review as appropriately, of course. read more
