Great food, great food. Great food. Second time trying Indian food, my first time is was YUCKY! Wouldn't call name of establishment. But someone told me about this place. After my first experience I thought I would have Indian food again. But here I am. We order a bunch of different things to try. Forgot to take pics, but their biryani rice was so so so so delicious and the butter chicken. Wooohoo it was a spicy party in my mouth. For me the spicer the better. The mutton was also good. The mango lasee was a favorite but only one complain with that it's a bit to thick, but I just added water to thinning it. Overall definitely go try them out.

Amritsari Chile Combo Plate - very good

Overall, good eats! This Indian cuisine was very tasty and flavorful. It has a wholesome-homestyle type of feeling when taking in the dishes. Each dish has a flavorful touch of spices that blur the lines from being mild or hot. The combo plates are very satisfying for one person. If your a light eater you can make a second pass at these dishes. The naan bread is very good, order an extra one because you will wish you had more when it runs out. I made the order thru GrubHub and had it delivered. If you are thinking of trying this place out for something different, go for it. You won't be disappointed. Live, Laugh, & Love -Sha Muzik

    Chicken pudina pasanda

I with my family visited for lunch at this place and left with bad taste. Ordered fried fish which was like fish popcorn very tiny pieces. Chilly fish was full of ketchup and battere was making it difficult to cut in small piece. For main course i was tempted with name chicken pudina pasanda, which was without salt and added sugar horrible combination of creamy chicken with pudina powder only. Never ever eaten or seen sugary chicken served in indian cusine a sweet savoury dish. Bakwaas taste. Girl in front who served was uncortsious, unprofessional behaviour. Upon complaing she murmured ppl eat as is, didn't offer a subsitute, fix the taste or felt concerned. Avoid this eating place if you don't want to spoil your mood and money. Vaggie dishes were ok.

I've been stranded by Hurricane Irma for a few days and I'm staying in the area. I decided to give Chawla's a try, and I'm glad I did. When you walk in the seating area is very basic, but clean and comfortable. You go up to the counter to order, either from the menu or from the video screens above the counter. I was greeted warmly and my questions were answered. I chose the spicy chili paneer, which apparently they have a lunch special with that, it comes with lentils and a choice of naan bread. I didn't quite realize they had a lunch special, but glad the guy told me about it. It was delicious! The chili paneer was spicy, though I would have liked it a bit spicier, but it was good. The lentils had a little smoky flavor to them which was delicious. The garlic naan was good, not the best I've ever had, but for all of that and a bottle of water I paid around $11, more with tip, but I found it a great value. The reason I docked a star was how the meal comes out. They serve the stay orders on plastic with plastic utensils, and to me it's just wasteful. I can understand why they do it, as it's probably cheaper and when they are really busy they don't have to clean plates, etc. Its just not that environmentally friendly. If you want some good Indian food at a good value in a very casual atmosphere then Chawlas2 fits the bill. I will be back given the opportunity.

So I've been walking by here every time I come home but had yet to try it out until today. As soon as I walked the aroma of the food hit me it was amazing in the guy at the counter smiled and took my order, he was very very friendly and nice. I ordered the Tandori Chicken Combo with roti to go along with two veggie samosas. The menu looks pretty big and decent. Also it was pretty packed so usually packed places say food is good. So the food was good and samosas awesome as well. Just the right amount of spice. The combo came with lentils and a little salad the chicken was spicy but really really good, lentils were absolutely delicious and I've gotta day that the tamarind sauce for the samosas is one of the best ones I've ever had. Everything tasted so homemade

Palak Paneer, Dal and Aloo Gobi with Naan.

I acknowledge that the flavors of a dish can vary from restaurant to restaurant, however I can't recommend this place based on my experience. I ordered the Palak Paneer,Aloo Gobi, Vegetable Samosa and naan. The same as I order every time I order Indian food. The food arrived on time, considering I was at a hotel I thought they would bring utensils, however, none included. No big deal I had my own. The palak paneer unfortunately had a pasty texture. I've been ordering palak paneer for years, I've had good bad and average, this one ranges between average-bad in my opinion. The Aloo Gobi was fine, I ordered mild, it was pretty hot, but that's OK, you expect that with Indian food. My big problem really is that when I normally have Indian food, it's magical, I don't get chunks of ginger and lemon grass that I'm chewing and gnawing on. With this food, that's what I had. The flavor was OK, I thought the dal was delicious, but I certainly would never order this again nor did I eat 90% of what I ordered. I have a bit of a tummyache, but that could be just from the spice. I think the food is probably fresh, I just didn't think the flavor was very well developed nor was the food as impressive as the other reviews suggest.

Nowhere near my house but I will go out of my way to get their noms. Have yet to be disappointed. I recommend the butter chicken and mixed veggie korma. Garlic nan brings it all together beautifully. This place is special to me now because it was the last meal I actually tasted before Corona stoke my taste/smell for a week. I was so happy my last meal was so delicious.

I have posted my gripes with the second Chawlas NYC location in Manhattan. But this original outpost lives up to the slogan of "Taste of Ludhiana". Excellent chole kulcha worth the trip to the far reaches of the city.

Chicken Tikka Masala Full Plate, Mutton Biryani, Aloo Gobi & Mutton Masala Full Plate

Ordered Aloo Gobi, Mutton Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala & Mutton Biryani I asked on the phone does each come with rice or naan yes it does! What did I received one small rice and full plate of everything else.. The naan was paid for separately. What am I supposed to eat the Aloo Gobi & Mutton Masala with if the rice is being eaten with the tikka Masala? I would never order from them again when I called on the phone they said the rice is complementary. For $61 complementary my a$$

Their prices are not the same as online. Service was bad. Don't go. I don't know why restaurants have to lie to get customers.

I won't recommend since they are not truthful with their online order price on grub hub. Update the menus online at least!

Nanking - A Perfect Spot for Layovers (or Locals)!…read more When my in-laws had a long layover at JFK, we decided to meet them for dinner, and Nanking turned out to be a fantastic choice. As a Brooklyn local, I hadn't explored many restaurants near JFK, and found slim pickings for Chinese or Thai food by the airport. First off, the ambiance is good--booth seating along the walls and a welcoming, authentic vibe. I was a bit skeptical at first about the large menu (Indian, Thai, and Chinese?!) because that's often a red flag. But, spoiler alert: Nanking proved me wrong! What we ordered: * Navaratan Korma: Super fresh veggies, rich and flavorful. As someone who makes this at home, I was impressed! * Lamb Korma: Delicious, tender, and full of depth. * Naan: A little thinner than usual but still tasty, especially paired with the curries. * Hot and Sour Soup: the in-laws finished their bowl. * Fish Curry: when my FIL ordered this we had a mini-panic that it wouldn't be fresh given the large menu and not apparent seafood focus -- bad fish ahead of a international flight seems worth avoiding at all costs -- but our server was quick and confident with her assertion the fish was fresh and I stood corrected! FIL reported back that it was flavorful, fresh and not overly creamy. * Butter Chicken: A weekly favorite of a diner sitting near us who gave it high praise, and the MIL reported she was right. (Her tip: Pair it with garlic naan--A+ advice!) The drink deals were great, and the prices overall were super reasonable. The only downside was the timing--our food took about 30 minutes, and the drinks were slow too. But with a party of 20 arriving at the same time as us, it's understandable. (And kudos to the menu for being upfront: "Let us know if you're in a hurry.") In short, Nanking is a gem for anyone looking for authentic flavors near JFK. My in-laws left happy, and if the situation presents itself again well definitely be back.

At week's end for a very weary Saturday, I could not move my body to get out to attain brunch but decided to give delivery the o' college try. Food does not contain any substance. Nanking had the audacity to inquire why I want to cancel my second separate delivery order. It was created in error! Grubhub automatically include: tax, tip, delivery fee, and service fee. I called Nanking to cancel this chicken Manchurian order who instructed me to directly contact Grubhub for cancelling because Nanking has no ability to cancel as this order originated from Grubhub. Delivery was approximately 45 minutes eternal wait timeline. I have no plans for a return delivery order nor a in-person visit dining experience. Oh, hell NO!! Steamed shrimp dumplings, haa1 gaau2 蝦餃, $10.99 These dumplings were average and was accompanied with excessive high sodium content soy sauce to raise high blood pressure increasing the risk of heart disease and possibly stroke. Vegetable noodle soup $7.50 Very minimal noodles content but heavy concentration of vegetables. It was heavily swimming in clear broth. The broth was not salty.
