I'm not even the first to review this park out in the middle of nowhere, and that's a good thing..... because the previous reviewer posted a photo of his view from one of the hiking trails.....awesome. And that pic helps to illustrate just how remote this area is. On Labor Day, way out here, would you believe I stumbled upon a photo shoot! Haha gotta love LA, all of it. Oaks always remind me of Chicago, as do elms, and they are especially beautiful in autumn. So yeah it's hot out here in summer, but still I am fascinated with this part of the Valley. The landscape combined with the remoteness seems otherworldly to me. I like to make the drive all the way around the far reaches of the Valley, on Valley Circle Blvd.. There's a parking lot at Chatsworth Oaks Park, but I didn't see any bathrooms. Best to stop in the sweet lil one-horse town you pass through just before you hit the deserted stretch of Valley Circle on which the park is located. If you want a getaway from all the madness & traffic, you won't get much farther away from it all than this, and still be in the LA vicinity. This park is a best kept secret imo. It's not a "social" park. If you want to show off your Lululemons and lip injections, you want to hike in or near Hollywood. This is the kind of park that you go to get away from it all and contemplate the meaning of life. You don't see graffiti on every boulder like you see in more popular parks, or litter which is nice. -1 because the signage is weird. read more

Best part of this park is that it is local. There are many nicer parks but you will need to drive if you live in the area. But if you are looking for couple of quiet hours at the park. This might be the place to go to. If you are local and never been to Chatsworth Oaks park, you should check it out. If you have time, save it for another day and drive to a better park. read more

Some fantastic trails around, free parking, some awesome bird watching! We did notice a lot of aforementioned "No Trespassing" signs posted by DWP..... Hmmmmm, sketchy indeed! I liked the hills. Ups and downs all around, awesome for some calf strengthening for sure! Plenty of steep rock sections to scramble around as well. If I had a dog, I certainly would have set them free to run!! It's definitely best to come in the morning or near the end of the day. It's fairly exposed with not a lot of tree cover, and being the Valley, it was hot as hell by 1030am with very little shade. I personally prefer Malibu Creek, but it was a nice adventure. Great for avoiding people, getting a nature fix, and seeing some quality plant life!! Hearts the fragrant sage brushes, the star shaped weeds on the ground, and the view of the lake across the way. The lack of tree coverage earns this park 3 stars. Good, fun, nature walking but BE PREPARED with a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. read more

Chatsworth Oaks Park - Love it! - Parks Near Me - Chatsworth, California

Jumping across the wood and bark-littered field in the grass, I feel it is easy to miss the lovely and particular features of Chatsworth Oaks Park as cars zoom by on Plummer St. The place honestly, is rather small and has little to boast of when it comes to facilities, but the green tilting field surrounded by dry hills and patches of green bushes is very tranquil and picturesque, even. Apparently there are no pre-established trails, but visitors are welcome to bike or hike into the hills that form part of the Santa Susana Range which are dotted with chaparral shrubs and various wild flowers (though at this time of year everything has pretty much dried up). The park has three main facilities: a slightly well-equipped and working playground, general barbecue pits, and a few picnic benches which the birds have found fitting to poop on. I found no restroom facilities, unfortunately. But the park was, apart from two or three parked visitors and a gigantic German Sheppard with a small man on a leash, deserted so that any shrub under the shade of an oak tree will be enough to relieve oneself. Overall the park is very clean and very neat, despite the fact that it is not staffed. You will find animal droppings are rare in the grassy area but abundant in the hiking trails. There is only one water fountain, and it might have been the heat and exhaustion of a long hike, but it tastes refreshing and one need only wait exactly four seconds before it turns chilly cold. The small park has a warm and peaceful vibe to it. There are many oak trees and plenty shade areas to sit under or take a nap in. The grassy area is filled with pieces of bark that look like over sized chunks of cinnamon sticks that smell like honey and dry dirt and the view from atop the nearby rocky hills is very pretty overlooking the Chatsworth Reservoir and the surrounding San Fernando Valley. I don't think it needs much improvement, apart from a restroom or two. Anything else would require more space but at approximately three acres it has the best it can for the moment. It is also listed as a Los Angeles wedding location and with a lovely view and bordering mountains it would be a great little spot to get married. read more

Love hiking with the dogs for a hike at this park. Most dog owners don't mind all the off leash dogs. Considering there's so many dog lovers here everyone is polite enough to pick up their poop. Trails are easy and there are lots of different areas to explore read more

I love this park, it's one of my favorite parks. However, nobody mentions that its adjacent to the Santa Susana nuclear waste contamination site. Hence the "no trespassing signs". It's really horribly negligent that the signs don't say WHY you shouldn't be trespassing. Won't ever go here again : ( Google Santa Susana field office.... For details on the contamination site. Unfortunately these type of contaminants are airborne so even if you aren't playing in the dirt... You're at risk. Nice how they put a playground next to this area. I always wondered when I was on the wrong side of the barbed wire fence and there was clearly nothing going on there, why was it off limits? Apparently there's been a clean up in progress since 2005. Keep your kids and dogs away. Irresponsible government. read more

The one star isn't for the park but for the creepy old men lurking. Every time we have tried to let our son play in the playground there has been at least one creepy old man either sitting in his car conveniently pointed toward the playground or at the benches just staring. I stare back until they get so uncomfortable they leave. There really needs to be a task force assigned to this as I see it happening in multiple parks and playgrounds. The park itself is great with it's play structure, grassy area and multiple trails just watch for the wierdos. read more

Great park with hiking and a small playground...except for the local dog owners who think this is an off-leash park. They take over the lone picnic bench every single evening of every single day, daring anyone with children to walk the "doggie gauntlet" on the way to the playground, while their beagles, pit bull mixes, border collies, and boxers are free to do as they please with your kids and belongings.. The mentality is "Oh my dog knocked over your toddler? You should have been more careful, he doesn't know how big he is". A normal reaction is expected at a park: My dog is bothering people and will not respond to my orders. I need to leash him up or otherwise get him squared away. The general public does not need to make friends with my dog, even if he's really friendly. To all you regulars: If your dog cannot follow simple commands like "come here, heel, stay, etc", then it needs to be on a leash. If you're continuously "forgetting your leash" then stay home and play with your dog in your own yard. read more

I love the park's peacefulness.. However, how on earth are you supposed to hike when all around the edges of the park there are no trespassing signs put up by the DWP at every possible trail except the one that heads out towards Chatsworth Lake Manor? Even the one along the fence going north from the park is I guess off limits as well since there are also No Trespassing signs hanging on the other side of the fence when you look in. Something tells me the Department of Water and Power is way overstepping their boundaries all because they probably built something (maybe the water tank or pipes?) near the park. If so, then just fence those off and let everyone use the open space already . read more

A nice little park. There are some trails, and you can take your horse here, apparently. Park rules are posted at the enterance of the parking lot. There is also a playground. I hiked up and got a good view of the neighboring nature preserve and the surrounding area. read more

For the most part this park is great. I usually allow my dogs to roam off leash but lately due to the heat I have noticed lots of coyote. So just be careful. read more

When you first see this park, you will see it as a flash. It is a place you pass on your way somewhere else - somewhere flashier. You will be right. It is a small park that has become somewhat of a dog park. Mostly everyone picks up after their beasts. When I visit this park, almost every Saturday and Sunday now for the past 3 years, it is the start and, generally, end point to a 2-3 hour hike/run. Originally my daughter, Mouse, and I found it because we were looking for an alternative location for her soccer team (SPLAT!) to train. There are short one and two mile loops, and there are loops that end in Simi Valley. It is open and shady at points, minimal wild life: rattlers, coyote, jack rabbits and various other smaller rodents and lizards. We call these hikes Dogday. Yes, of course, we take the dogs on the trails. Several of the previous reviewers noted the beauty of the park itself. During the winter the trails are beautiful, but as fall begins to become summer, watch out for the thorns and brush weeds, as much as the rattlers and coyote. The terrain is varied from undulating hills to steep rises and falls. It is an amazing trek through areas that our pioneers traversed without the benefit of knowing where the next water hole might be or what might be beyond the next set of hills (more hills ...). The views noted previously are true, but, by no means the whole or enough of the whole picture to set one straight. During the winter, especially a 2nd or 3rd day into a rain storm, if you travel the right trails, you will see a wonderful waterfall that fills a natural pooling spot. That spot lasts for one to one and a half days after the end of the rains. Be prepared to get back to your car soaking wet and with blisters - the trails become rather treacherous, but, if you are willing to forego comfort to see this, it is worth it. I stumbled on this park after recently moving to the chatsworth area. It is beatiful, quiet, and contains some great easy to intermediate hiking trails. Great views and very clean. Seems like a nice place to bring your dog to as well. Cant wait to go back. read more
