It just amazing how there's so much that outside your door that you never knew was there. Another hidden gem that's just waiting to be discovered. The trail isn't hard whatsoever. You enter from the Main Street, Reseda Blvd. We parked off the residential street as the sign posted for Reseda Blvd was confusing. It's basically No parking but on Sunday.... The trail was pretty wide so distancing is good. It overlooks the residents of porter ranch. There's parts of the trails that you're actually behind the homes. Some parts were affected by the fires as there's till residues from the burned trees left over. The trail starts off from Reseda Blvd and wind it way down and back up to Tampa. From there you could turn around or follow more trails that's near by. We continued and went up along the cliff. It's along the residential home. Just use common sense and respect people's property as you are in there area. One side of the residents and across the street is the cliff. Over looking the trail. We noticed that a couple of people brought chairs and blankets to enjoy the sunset. From the cliff, the view was beautiful overlooking the valley and when the sun was setting. I was amazing. Easy hike with and amazing sunset from the cliff.

New playground is open and it's beautiful. It was closed for about 4 months. The playground has all new equipment and flooring. The caterpillar is still there with a fresh coat of paint. Looks great!

Beautiful park on the top of a hill in a neighborhood in porter ranch. Never too busy and equipment and park is always kept clean. There are a lot of musical instruments for the kids and the sound machines actually work! A few slides, a spiderweb to climb, swings, and even a chess board if you bring your own pieces. And of course the famous ET caterpillar. Lovey park.

I never knew the official name for this park until I saw it on Google Maps. The locals have referred to it as "E.T. Park" ever since it was used for filming a scene in the movie E.T. Woah, how cool is that? Cooler than calling this place "Porter Ridge Park", that's for sure! Here's the cameo from the movie. Cool huh? http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/porter-ridge-park-northridge?userid=U39tz4YSeYNOJ_CMxVWZtQ#JBRum4Cu0MAhMC1iNVtcOg This medium-sized park offers a lot of grassy space (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/porter-ridge-park-northridge?select=22a3HfiqPiZPMRGQtCeIJQ#22a3HfiqPiZPMRGQtCeIJQ) to run around on, plenty of trees providing shade, a playground area and a basketball court. The playground area has a standard jungle gym, swings, and a climbing structure shaped like a caterpillar that's been here for as long as I can remember. The park is located on a hill (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/porter-ridge-park-northridge?select=etR_Fay_IpCqW98icxmlBA#etR_Fay_IpCqW98icxmlBA) so there's a bit of an incline. Perfect for kids riding their bikes down the hill (it's not that fast since it's on grass, but as a kid it sure seemed fast!) and for letting your hyper kids (yep, I was one of those) run up the hill so that they get tired quicker. At the very top of the hill is a semi-sharp drop, with no access to hiking trails. At least you get a decent view of some very nice looking houses (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/porter-ridge-park-northridge?select=OkIDR_bEoOueTB_dypZdGQ#OkIDR_bEoOueTB_dypZdGQ). But! See note (*) There's plenty of street parking on both sides of the park, and lots of nice houses around. Definitely a safe and quaint area. Unfortunately you won't find E.T. here. He went home. -------------------- * Note: If you continue past the park, all the way to the end of Sesnon Blvd, you'll find an entrance to Aliso Canyon Park (http://www.yelp.com/biz/aliso-canyon-park-los-angeles). Scenic views and light inclines are found on this 1.7 mile trail between Sesnon Blvd and Rinaldi St.

**Playground Review** If a park doesn't have a shaded canopy installed, it's often very hard to enjoy in the hot months. ET Park is so good for its shade. Yes there will be sun, but you can pretty much come any time of the day and there will be some shade. Located at the top of Reseda and Sesnon, you have a park that has been around for DECADES. Plenty of street parking. Caterpillar climb on- plenty of swings, monkey bars, slides, and lots of grass. My children have been coming here for years and it's pretty much stayed consistent. I have noticed it getting more active. There's also a basketball court a short hill climb up. You'll see dogs, bikers, loungers, you name it. Or, like many times for us, you could have the park all to yourself. Regardless, if you're looking for a break for the kids that's low maintenance, this is an easy park that's straight back to the basics.

E.t park and the original catapiler from the movie with added paint touches.

Shady, beautiful, clean, safe neighborhood, occasional ice cream truck, caution of coyotes. Always keep your dogs on leash.

Not a good park for a picnic. They should have warning signs/time when the sprinkles go off.

I love the scenic outlook of the park and feel like I get really nice bouts of fresh air here. Sometimes the park entrance gates are closed, which is weird, but it may be due to the weathers so keep that in mind as it's more of a private community park. The set-up of the park is great and the parking is super large. There is a large stage and I just know that this park has big prospects in mind for the future!!! Currently, it's not too packed and at the same time not too empty so we'll see how it goes in the future!!! Bathrooms are clean for a park and am satisfied with the amenities.

We came here with our rackets to play some pickleball and for the first hour it was just enough with the 4 courts. After past the hour mark, it started getting more full and groups were waiting outside the court. Regardless, my boyfriend and I were super happy to have finally checked out this new park after hearing about it from my roommates. Also want to note that the spot has a large stage and ampitheatre-like set-up and we would love to see if there are any community events that pop up here. The sign of the park also just says Porter Ranch Community Park even though it says differently online. Hopefully the name confusion can be fixed. Anyways, this is definitely a wonderful addition for the community and I hope it stays how it is with the maintenance and care! - kid-friendly apparatus area - one basketball court - 4 pickleball courts (looks too small for tennis) - clean bathrooms

It was so intense but so worth is at the top I saw some coyotes on the others side- like a pack but the stayed on their side. Some people bring their hiking sticks and whistles and some just brave the wild :/. While we made it out alive, won't lie. Seeing like 5-6 coyotes at once kinda scared me but they were pretty far off. They have a nice little park (not a kid park with swings) you can walk around for a calmer and easier walk. They have other trails there that I haven't been on. So I'd just say wear good shoes if you're gonna tackle the big trails and maybe there hiking sticks (I need to get one) and anything for safety. It has many signs that there are rattle snakes. I haven't seen one but I believe them lol. I prefer to go early because in my mind, they wouldn't be out and about yet ‍ since it's not too hot.

On any given day you may see dogs playing, or training in social skills, exercise classes, families picnicking and kids running around. BUT ALSO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR WILDLIFE! Coyotes and mountain lions are very common, as are rattle snakes. But also bunnies, squirrels and an array of birds, for those who take the time to stop, listen, and try to identify. There is not a playground at this large park. Instead, the draw is toward it's many, well marked, hiking trails. This use to be John O'Melvany's ranch, until he deeded the land to Los Angeles(1976), with specifics for it to be used as a park. You'll still see orchards of grapefruit as you enter, with signs requesting you not remove the fruit from the area. The fruit has not been properly tended to in decades, so it's not really yummy grapefruit, but on occasion you'll see some people plucking and tasting to quell their curiosity. Mainly, to avoid the spread of fruit flies, the city requests that the yellow spheres be left in place. BUT OH THE AROMA OF THE FLOWERS FROM THESE TREES! And so many happy bees flitting about. Quite nice. This is also a park that allows access for equestrians. A very large dirt area for trailers to park and horses to be staged and prepped before heading off into the hills on the marked Equestrian Trail. If you do take the time to hike one of the many trails, you'll be rewarded with beautiful view of SFV. If you squint, you can almost imagine what it looked like pre-WWII, before the tract homes welcomed the veterans here. Many beautiful, very old, oak trees, eucalyptus and various maple species, along with a LOT of native shrubbery are found throughout the park and the one large bathroom at the center is well maintained. Hours are dawn to dusk, with gates at both the pedestrian entry and parking lot. Plenty of free parking in the lot and along the street. If you're up for an easy, but fairly long excursion, check out Bee Canyon Park. It starts just across the street from O'Melvany and DOES have a play area for kids. Also, it's trail runs all the way to Balboa. Cheers! "CC"
