Chateau St. Jean was the venue of my good friend Sarah's wedding on 06/14/2025. This beautiful winery is located in the small town of Kenwood, which is on the north end of the Sonoma Valley. The history of this winery can be traced back to the 1920s, when a rich mining family moved west from Michigan and purchased the land where it sits on. The winery business actually started in the 1970s by several businessmen from the San Joaquin Valley. 50+ years later, it remains one of the more recognizable names in the NorCal wine industry. I got here with my buddy David A. and his wife at around 4:15pm. The first thing that struck me was the tranquility. I was dealing with a major protest in my city that morning, so the peacefulness was truly appreciated by me. Aside from that, nature's beauty was on full display. The sky was blue, the hills were green, and the temperature was a perfect 72F. Sarah couldn't have asked for a better day to have her wedding! The ceremony was held in a covered area near the chateau, with seating set up for 100-150 guests. After the ceremony, a pre-reception cocktail party was held in the courtyard area. After about an hour or so, the dinner reception was held under the giant palm tree. The food and service for the entire event were fantastic. From appetizers to main course to desserts, the food was well prepared and delicious. Service provided by the staff was friendly and attentive. There were a couple minor hitches during the reception, but they resolved them quickly. Chateau St. Jean is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. As a non-drinker, I don't know enough about their wine to have an opinion on their quality, but I think you will really enjoy the serene setting. read more

Jordan was extremely knowledgeable about the wine at St. Jean. There weren't many people at the time, however, tables did start to fill up after we were seated. Jordan ensured our food order came out on time and properly prepared. We did have people in our party who did not drink alcohol, and the lemonade he recommended was delicious! If you're wondering, it was a full bottle. So we were able to enjoy it in between tastings. I have been to Napa and been to wine tastings as the DD (I was pregnant every other time lol). But as my first experience, the cab frank was my favorite. The cab souv was my favorite, and I'm happy it was the last one we left off with. The views were beautiful from the drive up and into the chateau. Personally, I don't enjoy crowds, but I would not mind the ambience and understand if there were more visitors. We may have been one of the few groups at the winery at this time. The tasting was fine. I don't think they deviate from the menu provided. I'm used to being able to taste whatever is open in hopes of finding a bottle I will like. I ended up getting the cinq cepages since I liked it. And it'll be fun to open it with my dad one day. What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL property! Chateau St Jean is straight from a story book, I felt as if I had transported to a winery in France. My group had a table reserved in a lovely, secluded courtyard to enjoy the wine options at Chateau St. Jean. They brought us some bubbly to sip on which was delicious. We were there 15 minutes before they closed. One staff member greeting us then she turned her face and it was the opposite, and make a face indicating disgust or dislike. Another staff member told me "we were closed for the day" if you want you have to buy a bottle. That's it . I got membership from another place where I can feel welcome. Trained better your staff. This winery property is gorgeous. We are spending several days in Napa, and the plans include trips to a number of wineries. Tasting prices in general have soared, and we already know a number of wines that are favorites. We arrived at this property on a Wednesday afternoon, when things were not busy. They allow the purchase of a full bottle to be enjoyed on the property, so we bought a bottle of 2019 Reserve Chardonnay and headed for the garden, where they have tables. The landscaping is gorgeous, with fountains, roses, boxwood, and grape vines labeled so you can see the various varieties. We saw hummingbirds and soaked up the views. It was heaven. read more

George, Jordan and Quinn made this experience unforgettable for my wife and I. We went here during our Honeymoon and they went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. They gave us double the amount of wine tastings that we ordered, they allowed us to keep some of the print out that they made with our names on it (since we just got married, it was really nice to see our names printed out), they gave us a free $70 bottle of wine to help us celebrate and they even gave my wife and I a private tour of the Chateau (that wasn't even open that day!). We appreciate the above and beyond customer service so much. I will definitely become a member and I will definitely be brining my wife back here. 10/10 experience and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Sonoma or the surrounding area. read more

We were in the area and decided to visit this winery on a whim. It's quite large with multiple gardens separated by hedges. There are several different buildings, but the one for visitors is pretty easy to spot. Inside there's a large room with lots of gift items, a small deli, and tasting area. The gifts are pretty typical souvenirs and the deli did not have much selection at all. The grounds are really well maintained. There's an area where they have several small vines growing with labels displaying the type of grape. There are several different gardens with tables and chairs, and some with picnic tables. I believe some gardens are exclusively for club members, but we wondered around anyway and no one said anything. It was a nice visit. It felt a little more touristy than some of the smaller wineries we enjoyed. read more

Highly recommend booking "Charcuterie at the Chateau" gourmet experience overlooking the gorgeous vineyards. This is California living at its finest! Their malbec is a full-bodied one, so we always pick up a bottle or two. We can't leave without buying the Pinot Noir & Merlot, also our favorites. Can't wait to come back. We had a really great experience when visiting Chateau St Jean. Our group booked the bocce ball and corn hole experience which came along with two wines and a charcuterie board. The wine was very good and the charcuterie board was also very tasty. It was such a fun afternoon playing the games and being able to chat with each other. We happened to make a reservation on member appreciation day (which we are) so it was a special tasting list. First impression: breathtaking, charming garden area with plenty of shade. Unlike other wineries, Chateau St. Jean offers a picnic experience at $45 per person with wine being extra (pricy, but I had a discount). The picnic basket includes a garden salad, egg salad, chips, apples, chocolate chip cookies, and fresh ingredients to put together your very own grilled chicken sandwich wedged between two slices of foccacia bread. I'll admit, I was a bit wary of the portion sizes at first, but both of us left feeling stuffed. Plus, you get to keep the picnic basket and wine corkscrew! Really wanted to do the wine tasting, but they're only doing the reserve tasting at the moment, and at $40 per person, that's a bit too steep for my liking. Knocked a star off since I did run into some issues when booking the picnic experience. When I was asking about wines from the first person I spoke with, she couldn't really recommend a bottle of wine to go with our picnic and just read descriptions off the website. I also had to call again because she had forgotten to apply the discount the first time around. Overall, though, we had a memorable time at Chateau St. Jean. Perfect place to enjoy a picnic with others. I recommend trying it out at least once! read more

It's a really lovely estate with a beautiful rose garden, a selection of some of the different grape vines, and a plethora of outdoor seating options! The wine tasting was ~$40 a person (with fees) and you get to try six wines. You can add a charcuterie board for another $40 but it's only like two cheeses and two meats with a half baguette. Tasty, but we expected a little more food for the price tag. The service was good but I wish our server spent a little more time explaining the background behind each wine and the story of the establishment. However, they did spend some extra time with us after the tasting taking pictures for the group which I greatly appreciated! Pretty bougie place to wine taste, but it's fun to play the part for a day. Get somewhat dressed/spiffed up, roam their manicured gardens with your favorite shades on, take a whiff of that clean wine country air and belly up to wine tasting outdoors on one of their many patios they sport. (You may need to be a 'member' though to enter certain areas.) So this place, not sure if it is a pandemic mode of operation or not, but you need to place a reservation on line to taste. Pandemic or not, many places are steering in this direction anyways, as to give you a fuller experience by matching you up with your own wine associate. Sure it is more educational and fun, but it also strengthens their chances on making a sale. I'm not hating, just an observation. I had no issues reserving a time during the weekday. I was even able to make it within the same hour that I placed it, since my campsite was just 10 minutes up the hill. Not sure if that's doable on the weekends. But the thing with their tastings is not only is it not cheap, $40 to start and can climb as you add on food for pairings. But this tasting fee is NOT waived if you purchase their wine. Many places will waive the fee with some sort of purchase, not here, you have to eat this fee...well drink it. *wink wink nudge nudge* But in my tasting, and in their defense, you do get a good amount to taste. They start you with 4 tastings and they are not little 1-2 oz sippers. They are at least a 4 oz pour, which is almost a full glass at a restaurant. And if they gauge that you're liking the experience or seemed interested in other wines, they will not hesitate in pouring you more. I think I sampled 6 total in over an hours worth of tasting and wine babble. And the last 2 were higher end reds because that is what I was really interested in. And they more than delivered. There were several associates that were pouring but one main one who answered questions and did most of the work. I was impressed with most of their wines and there was a level of their wine club that fit my needs, so I joined. 3 times a year, they'll send me 3-4 bottles. Also since I was already there, I was able to take this season's bottles with me as to spare the delivery charges. And if I ever come back for a tasting and bring guest, we'll have a carte blanche on the tasting experience, no fees and in a more private patio. Don't have to twist my arm on this deal. I left that tasting with a new swagger in my walk. It's great fun to be bougie for a day. read more

One of our favorites stops in the area! Their welcome process was the perfect start to our experience. Right as you walk up to the entrance, you are given a tasting of bubbles, which made us feel perfectly boujee. The grounds is gorgeous and very picture-worthy. The tasting area is beautiful with nice outdoor seating and great service. We loved all of the wines and left with quite a few bottles that we are so excited to enjoy when we get back home! The hosts are friendly and accommodating. We elected to have wine tasting and was seated in the outside patio with the gorgeous view of the rose garden. Beautiful architecture and gardens on this property. The wine tasting with quin was very nice, he was informative, friendly and a great host. We very much enjoyed the wines, especially the estate viognier and a few or the reds. They have nice large bocce ball courts and the surrounding are idyllic. I go hear often - it is near my home, has lovely grounds and excellent wines and now I'm a club member too! I went with a group of 10 ladies the other day and we had excellent service from Tim and several other servers. We had a wide variety of wines to try and liked the most - their Reserve Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and their Rose Sparkling wine. This is one of the prettiest wineries on the Rte 12 group. The grounds are really spectacular. We went on a very rainy day so we stayed inside the tasting room for the most part. Wines were very good, particularly the pinot and cinq celages (Bordeaux blend). They seemed a little short staffed and the vibe in the tasting room feels very commercial/cookie cutter service. I think we got lucky with our server, she was knowledgeable and helped us iron out some reservation issues. We braved the rain at the end of our tasting and explored the grounds. I imagine on a nice day this is a beautiful stop. There are little bistro tables in quaint courtyards, beautiful gardens and fountains. Feels like you are in a real countryside villa. Will be interesting to see how this place operates moving forward. They recently became a part of Foley Wines. Associates there told us that Foley has really helped them clean things up around there and that they think it is a positive change. Fingers crossed! read more
