These guys know what they're doing, and don't try to do more than needed. Very fair, and trustworthy.

I put in a diagnostic request for my mother in law's 2009 Kia Rondo. She doesn't have much money,…read moreso I was hoping to try and save her some money. I had to have a tow truck it to her address due to it not wanting to start in Park, I found out though that the shifter was very stiff as well and would only move when I used the bypass button. I couldn't get it to start but the tow truck driver showed me that it would start in neutral using the bypass switch and shift into gear but when in park it would still move. So, we didn't want to risk driving it to her house and so we had it towed. The tow truck driver said any mechanic should be able to fix that for you with no problem. So, I called Adkins that evening, and he diagnosed it the next day. He said, he tore the whole console apart, even tested the neutral safety switch but it was seized and couldn't be moved out of neutral. He told me it starts but will not shift. I was told the rod was welded internally within the transmission. I thanked him for his time and effort and he was paid by my mother in law. We'll, then myself and a friend came over and found the shifter was indeed froze in neutral, but after we re-tore the console back apart, and diagnosing it ourself we got it to shift. Took it to a transmission shop, who said this is not a transmission problem at all. We were told to take it to a mechanic and that it's either in the shifter itself or the cable, but definitely nothing to do with the transmission. The mechanic from Adkins confirmed over and over that he's torn many of these apart and he knows his stuff when it comes to vehicles. The question is, then why did he not diagnose the issue correctly and refer me to a transmission shop who then sent me back to a mechanic. I got the shifter out of neutral but he couldn't. He said he tested the neutral safety switch but it didn't look like it had been touched. I'm just saying, I will never trust this company to touch another vehicle of mine. Didn't seem to know as much as he claimed. Did not give a correct diagnosis and still took my mother in laws money. You decide what's right or if you would trust this mechanic.

Luckily I spotted it while getting gas at a service area on the Pa. Turnpike. Typically Porsche parts are tough to come by and people capable of working on Porsche's are even tougher to come by. My options were get towed to a Porsche dealer in Pittsburgh and risk getting stuck there while awaiting parts and having to leave car, rent a car to continue to Canton and then go back to Pitt to pick up the car. I opted to get towed the 4 more hrs to Canton. At least then we'd be at our destination and having to wait would not be as big of a hassle. I called a few friends in canton and asked for recommendations for a Porsche shop. We got 3. First 2, said could not help me for almost 2 weeks. 3rd call, McBrides, said you get the car here and we;ll get it fixed. I said we would not get there till maybe around 8:30-9:30pm. He said the property was gated but he'd leave it unlocked so we could drop the car. Tow truck arrived with our car and us around 9:30pm. As we were dropping the car another car pulled onto the property. I just assumed it was a customer dropping their car. A gentleman gets out of the car and comes over to me and calls me by name. It was the owner. He said he swung by to see if our car was there because he wanted to either get it into the shop overnight or at least lock the gate behind us. We spoke for a few minutes. He showed me around the shop. I'm a car guy and I could see he was too. He showed me his project car. I was impressed by how large the shop was, how organized it was and how clean it was. I felt confident we were in good hands. I get a call from him around 2pm the following day telling me car was ready. He said he closed at 5pm. I asked, if I could not get there by closing would he be OK with leaving keys in car for me to pick up and I could give him CC over the phone now. He said not to worry about it. The car would be waiting for me and we could work out the payment arrangements later. First of all I was amazed the car was ready. I had resigned myself to spending a few extra days in Canton awaiting Porsche parts. All I can say is the level of service I was shown was unprecedented. The repair was perfect and the price charged was more then fair and substantially less then I expected to pay. With a Porsche you expect to pay a Porsche premium for even the simplest repairs. I wish I lived in Canton so I could use McBrides on a regular basis.

"This car needs checked for a blown head gasket - before anything else, please do a compression test". But now, was the compression test done? No, it never was. Instead, let's go off on a tangent, change the water pump, new coolant, the Serpentine belt, and drive it all over. A week later, I get the call I had been trying to avoid. "Hey, guess what? Your head gasket is blown and guess what? "You owe us $464 for the water pump, the Serpentine belt, Labor and all this coolant. " "If you want us to repair the head gasket , well that's another $4000 and takes about a month...." "Hey, I never told you to do that work and parts first." I did not approve any of that.... They are just guessing at the problem - after I told them what was wrong with it. I'm not a rich guy that can just write blank checks at will. I would not recommend this place to anybody. These other people on here say they've had good experiences there. Maybe they overspent or something, I don't know. McBride's does NOT listen to the customer at all!

It was a coolant leak that spiraled and turned into a lot of hours in labor charge$$, guessing on radiator, thermostat? maybe, hoses, heater core, parts and symptoms over 3 weeks in dead of Winter. In the end was told to "get a head gasket replacement", but why was that not checked first when told that SUV was overheating? A compression leak down test or a coolant combustion gas test should have been the first thing done, then go from there. We just got a large bill and a larger one now looming... We are local, and like to give locals good reviews, but this was a most painful experience, and we had to rent cars for a month just to get by. He had somebody quit in the middle of all this, so I get that, but the communication there was very lacking, as we would go 4-5 days with no updates to the progress, kept us wondering every day if we should extend the rental car agreement, a day,a week, two, who knows? There is nobody working the front desk to call, so you are calling Nick directly and he's the one working on cars, so we weren't sure if he was getting messages. Every excuse was that he was always working on somebody else's car instead of ours. Engine was missing some parts by week 4, I had to go buy to replace after getting it back. He did refund me though. Interior of car was received as filthy and took over an hour to clean. I think that the A/C refrigerant was also lost in the radiator swap, I'll find out in the Summer. Bush's, McBrides, and Randy's were booked out 2 weeks when it overheated, or I would have gone there, so took a chance here and would not recommend.

We were recommended by a friend, I decided to give them a try, and found that they exceeded expectations all around What I discovered about them is that they don't charge you to look at your car and give you an initial evaluation like most auto shops which could be $100-200 just to even look at your car. The recommendations that came back from my repair was on the high end in the worst case scenario, and that was absolutely on par with the dealership's service departments. However, they recommended the repair plan to start with the simple repairs and if that doesn't work go on to the further so overall my bill was much less than going to a branded Repair Shop. The repair ended up working right off the bat, at a much lower cost, and they treated me like I was a person. They spoke to me like I was a normal human being who didn't really know much about car maintenance and I greatly appreciate them talking to me at my level. Looking at the cars that were in there repair lot, it ranged anything from really old classical cars to really high end sports cars, and then every normal car in between. They clearly have a skill set that is suitable for All Makes and Models (dad pun). I can't recommend them enough, they're practical, down to earth, and they work with you to meet you at your level. If you ever need a repair the only thing they really don't do is body work I would absolutely check this place out.
