I always thought this was a company that valued relationships. But recently, I was charged $400 for a leak sensor diagnosis for a system was still under warranty -- something that was already diagnosed which is why I called them in the first place as the system was under warranty. I paid it and had it repaired under warranty. More recently, I signed up for a $39 tune-up promo and was double charged without warning or permission, using a credit card I had specifically said I no longer use. Although it was a promo for a tune-up, it didn't specify per system. I wouldn't have minded paying for two systems if they had contacted me to let me know, but they charged me without my consent/authorization, and I don't think this is okay. I gave the company a chance to respond privately, but was met with silence. They did end up charging the correct card, but without any acknowledgement or response to my concerns. That lack of accountability is what finally pushed me to write this. This isn't how you treat loyal customers. I no longer feel comfortable recommending Automatic Climate -- and I truly wish that weren't the case.

On Wednesday morning the drain backed up again caused by roots. I called M. A. Williams again and they said that there was no warranty due to the roots. I asked how much it would cost me to snake it again. $412.95. I asked if they would do it for $200 because it had only been 3 days. The answer was "No". I told them that I thought this was wrong on their part because the job was never finished. Still "No". To me this is bad business. I told then that it would be a "cold day in hell before I would call them again". Another plumber came out on Wednesday. He installed an outside drain and snaked my line again for a lesser price. He did a great job for a fair price. Customers beware. M. A. Williams will "screw" you over. M. A. Williams does not treat their customers fairly.

I thought they did a great job. The equipment that they installed was top quality and the plumbers who did the work were courteous, respectful of my home and knowledgeable. This year, I had a plumbing inspection by a third party who informed me that due to code, I needed an expansion tank for the heater. I called Mr. Rooter to inquire and they sent the original plumber to inspect. They agreed to install the tank at no cost to me other than for the tank and pipe, which I did not purchase the first time. Very fair indeed and they were extremely courteous during the discussion we had. I would recommend Mr. Rooter of Richmond.

He came back, reversed what he done previously and issued us a partial refund. He never tested to see everything was working properly before he left our condo. The other night, our a/c was leaking - causing the a/c to break down. My husband was up to 1 a.m. taking water out of pan. We called him Saturday morning and left a message on his phone to call us (Office open till 2 pm). He never did. His wife calls this morning for an appointment and I said to have Derrick call us. Derrick called and spoke to my husband. My husband said he will discuss this later. Now I get an email from DNA cutting us off as customers. Derrick caused our a/c problems-don't know how to fix it and then doesn't want us as customers. Bad service from the owners. He should have called us back on Saturday to help us. Don't need him or his incompetence work ethics. Will never recommend him again. Stay away from this company unless you want problems.

But in case you want more details, I've had bad luck with plumbers. I get overcharged and jerked around... I called Harry because, well, he had one review on Yelp, and it wasn't a bad one and he isn't somebody I had called before. I don't think I was the nicest guy to him on the phone (not outright rude) but I did tell him I didn't really trust plumbers in the area based on my previous experiences. He told me his story, and it's basically that he worked for the big companies for years, knew their tactics, didn't like it, and wanted to do his job for an honest price. He went to my house and unclogged my kitchen sink. Guess what, when he called me to tell me how much it cost, it was in line with what he told me when I first called him. He didn't jack the price up on me, he didn't rip me off, he was honest. He fixed the problem, he charged me what he said he would charge, and there were no additional fees. Tonight I called him about another issue. Like I said, he's the first plumber that's gotten my repeat business and he will continue to get my business as long as I still own my house in Richmond, which I hope not to for much longer, and am planning on putting it on the market this spring, if anybody is interested... just kidding, sort of... no, not really, I am not kidding, I'm ready to sell it. So grateful we found him. Below review from 7/2025 I have never left a 5 star review from only talking to a business owner, but please read on. I left Harry a detailed message about a couple of toilets in my 4 year old home leaking from tank to bowl. I thought maybe the flapper, but when it happened to an upstairs & downstairs toilet around the same time, I panicked & thought it was maybe a plumbing system issue. Harry called me back promptly & let me know right up front that he was fully booked until August. But he also eased my mind by reminding me that the toilets were all put in at the same time, so more than one could have components wearing out at the same time. Since I only had leaking to the bowl, I changed the flappers & now they both work great! Even though he was very busy, he took the time to call me back. Even though he was booked until August, he listened to what I said. Granted he didn't try to diagnose over the phone, but his common sense, honest approach prevented me from calling another company for an emergency that I didn't have. He was right. I had two toilets with faulty equipment at the same time..a coincidence! I would highly recommend Harry; he is busy for a reason. I would schedule with him in the future if I needed a plumber.
