Wonderful Hospitality - Wonderful Wine! I won a magnum of Chase Cellars 2017 Hayne Vineyard Reserve and tasting from the Napa Valley State Parks Association auction last Fall. Last week we got to experience their wine and hospitality first hand. Chase Cellars is noted for their old growth Zinfandel vines, some vines are over 115 years with trunks as large as a tree (see picture). Brian Liu was our hospitality guide. Brian took us out "into" the vineyard to see their vines up close, explained why their mature vines aren't irrigated, pruning, and overall care of the vines. The "almost in the vineyard" location of our table added to our pleasurable experience. Katie Hayne Simpson joined us for our tastings segment. Katie told us about her ancestor who first arrived in 1849 and began the Chase legacy. We tried four Zinfandels, all were superb. We look forward to our next visit to Chase Cellars. Chase Cellars - thanks for a great afternoon at your winery.

    So much fun!

Thank you Chase Cellars for the beautiful tasting this weekend. Elise went above and beyond with making us feel so welcome. My boyfriend and I were really impressed with the level of hospitality we received while introducing us to their delicious wines. As a local I found myself really stunned by the beauty of the property. It's tucked off the beaten path but once you arrive you know you have found a gem! We were lucky enough to meet the owner Katie who was so lovely. She had us laughing over her amazing stories as we enjoyed a fabulous tasting overlooking true paradise. The Zins were delicious. Everything was. Chase is definitely a 5 star winery!!! Great people, great wine, and great views!! Thank you, Joanna & Kris

I tried Chase Cellars on a recommendation from one of my friends in the tasting room at another high end winery in Napa and I'm so glad I did! Everything at Chase was a phenomenal experience from the moment I picked up the phone to request a reservation to my tasting and brief tour to my eventual wine club sign-up! If you like big, bold, and stunning Napa reds, this is the place for you. Chase specializes in zinfandel, old vine zinfandel, and petite sirah blends. They source much of the fruit from the famous Hayne Vineyard and its 100+ year old vines. The wines have deeply concentrated fruit flavors and deliver quite the punch to the palate. Note that with this quality also comes cost; an entry level zinfandel starts at $60, and the bottle prices rise from there. Note that very few cases of wine are made, so the prices reflect not only the quality but also the scarcity. I joined the wine club on the spot because I loved the wine here so much. I've since been back as a guest twice and the hospitality at the winery can't be beat. Brian has been our host all three visits, and his laid back, friendly, and welcoming demeanor fits with the family-run winery very well. It's a very small group at work here, and we've even visited on a day when the owner herself was out moving grapes to get ready for harvest. The winery is a little difficult to find because it's tucked away in a quiet residential area in St. Helena. It's a good idea to allow extra time to find it before your appointment. Bring comfy shoes because you'll want to stroll through the dusty vineyard to take a look at the knotty old vines! I love this winery, it's the very definition of a hidden gem in the Napa Valley. I would write more but I feel it's best to let the wine and the tasting experience speak for themselves. Cheers!

Highlight of our trip! A small and personal experience with excellent wine. Don't waste your time with the huge commercialized spots when you can visit, learn, and enjoy a lot of wine. Peaceful and quiet in late October. Come as a group or even solo. Call to schedule your tasting, you won't regret it.

We love this winery! It is exactly what we look for in a wine tasting experience. Not corporate. Not cold and overpriced. The wines are wonderful. We buy as much as we can afford and while they are not bargain prices, they feel like an incredible value for the quality. The staff are warm, generous and relaxed. The owner is onsite and very friendly. A bit off the beaten track, but so very worthwhile.

These wines are gooooood. Chase is a small, laid back place located away from the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed a leisurely outdoor tasting with Brian while overlooking the Hayne vineyard. Brian was very informative. We did take a walk through the vineyard to see how the vines look at different ages and got to taste some grapes. We bought a case of wine to have shipped home and are considering joining the club in the future. If you are a Zinfandel fan, don't hesitate to make an appointment.

Review #400! We have…read morevisited V Sattui several times over the years, and it was on our itinerary for our current Napa trip, primarily because we wanted to get lunch at their food market. V Sattui is rather unique among the region's wineries, for several reasons: they have a food market, they allow purchased bottles to be consumed on site, they allow picnicking, and they serve as a wedding venue. This is not easy to achieve in Napa's ridiculously restrictive permitting landscape. So first, let's talk about the food market, which is one of the main attractions of this place. The cheese shop alone is worth going out of your way for. Almost every type of cheese you can hope to find. Sorry to my idealistic vegan aspirations, but I don't think I'll be giving up cheese anytime soon. They have a deli with sandwiches, pastas and various side dishes, olives, fruits, etc. Come on an empty stomach and be ready to eat well. When we first arrived at the winery, we were welcomed in by the very nice host, who explained the tasting menu options, if we were interested in a tasting. About 13 wines to choose from, and you get to pick any 5, $45 per tasting. Love the flexibility. Lots of white and rose options, as opposed to many wineries which just pile on the reds. I like a good red, don't get me wrong, usually with a big dinner, but on a hot summer day, I want lighter, refreshing wines. So we were sold, and signed up for an indoor tasting before lunch. During the couple of years we've been away from Napa, the winery has completely rebuilt their tasting room and store, for both structural and cosmetic reasons. It looks fantastic now, featuring a very attractive, modern circular tasting bar. Would have taken pics, but I try to avoid posting pictures of strangers on the internet, and the tasting room was filled with people. We grabbed a seat at the bar, and were greeted by our tasting guide, Lucas. Lucas was amazing. Personable, hospitable, and engaging. He made us feel welcome, got to know us, and ensured we had a great time throughout, even though he was serving multiple other customers at the same time. I could never do his job. I selected all white and rose wines, and RB went with mostly red. My favorites were the off-dry Riesling, and the Sauvignon Blanc. RB's Preston Vineyards cab was also very good, but again, I would need a hearty meal to consume this with. Lucas also treated us to a couple of complimentary pours, and the Madeira was an especially nice treat. We finished up our tasting, bid au revoir to Lucas, and made our way to the deli for lunch. We were hungry and decided to keep it simple with the essentials - cheese (of course), sweet baguette, and grapes. So many enticing cheeses to choose from, but you can't go wrong with French Brie and medium cheddar, so that's what we opted for. As for the beverage selection, RB's and my wine palates do not always align, but we can usually agree on bubbles, so that's what we did. Armed with a bottle of Brut cuvée and the aforementioned goodies, we made our way out to the picnic area. It's lovely out there. Many picnic tables, in the shade or in the sun, or you can picnic on the grass. We found a shaded table in the breeze overlooking Route 29, and settled in for our leisurely lunch. Terrific experience start to finish, even better than I remember from the past. Make sure you make V Sattui part of your Napa itinerary.

The caves are unlike any I have been in before where they are usually rustic. These are beautifully decorated and all kinds of art. I would have liked to see more of the caves but they just have the dercorated section open for these tours. The barrel tasting was great and surprisinly all their wines are pretty drinkable right out of the barrell I suppose because they dont have much tannins so they dont need alot of tiem to mellow. I liked most of them but at $250 a botttle I felt they were way overpriced compared to other high end Napa area wines we are familiar with. After the cave tour they sit inside and you get to try several more wines so we had plenty to drink. I was not expecting a full size pizza for the two of us we already had lunch plan right after so we took most of it with us. Only bought two bottles of their less expensive wines at $95 each which is still a little high!! Probably wont be back since the value just isnt there for purchasing their wines but I do reccomend the tour.

November is the perfect time to wine taste in Napa in my opinion, it's not crowded but the weather is still so nice. Pros: - TRULY delicious wine. We did all reds and they started us off with a welcome Rose, which surprisingly was extremely good (it was more red than the typical rose) - Christian was extremely knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable asking questions even if the questions were super simple, I like that the place is boujee but doesn't give off an uppity vibe and the vibe of the staff really made me want to get more into wine knowledge! - extremely cute and aesthetic but simple vibes, the view upstairs speaks for itself so it doesn't require a ton of cheesy decor. Very relaxing environment - The top wines that stood out to me are the Rutherford Hillside 2015 and the legacy 2018. Ended up going home with a bottle of the legacy ($195 ish). - This was definitely the most "expensive" winery I've ever visited (based on bottle price) but I feel like I learned a ton about the winery, Napa in general, and everything tasted SO. GOOD. I have no regrets. - The breadsticks are so buttery and delicious. I 100% understand why my friends are members here. - Flora Springs was kind enough to let our friends' 20% discount apply to the bottles we took home! Which really makes a difference when the wines are 100-200 bucks each. But they do have some more "affordable" options to take home too in the 50-70 range. - Many spots to take cute photos - Kept our waters filled the whole time, let us take home free pens - Plenty of easy parking Cons: - none. 10/10 would love to come back and join the club when I make more money LOL
