Subject: Complaint Regarding Proof of Address Requirements Dear [Branch Manager / Chase Customer Service], I am writing to formally express my concern regarding my recent attempt to add my wife to my Chase account. Prior to visiting the branch, I contacted Chase customer service by phone and was informed that my wife only needed two valid IDs to be added as a joint account holder. Based on this guidance, we gathered and presented the following documents at the branch: * Her Social Security card and Social Security letter with our current address * Her Permanent Resident (Green) Card * Tax return documents with our address * Our marriage certificate Despite presenting these official government-issued documents, the banker refused to add her to the account, insisting instead on a utility bill under her name. I explained that this is not possible, as utility accounts are issued only under one person's name. When I offered to provide a signed lease agreement as additional proof of residency, I was told this was not acceptable either. This contradicts both Chase's initial phone guidance and the general acceptance of government-issued documents (e.g., USCIS, SSA, tax documents, etc.) as valid proof of address. I respectfully request: 1. Clarification of Chase's official policy on proof of address for joint account holders. 2. A review of why my wife's government-issued documents were rejected. 3. I've been a loyal customer for decades--starting with Washington Mutual, and continuing with Chase after the merger. My no-fee checking account was supposed to be grandfathered in. It was--until last month, when I was suddenly charged a $12 monthly service fee. I called customer service, only to reach a call center in the Philippines. The representative read me a script explaining how I could avoid fees by setting up direct deposit. I told her I deposit paper checks monthly in amounts well over the required minimum, but she said that didn't count. According to Chase, only direct deposit qualifies. That policy is discriminatory against people who are paid by check or in cash--such as many hourly workers and day laborers. I followed up by writing to Chase's corporate offices. I got a call from someone claiming to be an executive--but she turned out to be calling from the same offshore call center in the Philippines, reading the same script. I'm not telling anyone to leave Chase. I'm just sharing my personal experience as a long-term customer whose loyalty was dismissed. Firstly, I cannot believe how fast I got in and out of this bank. The teller knew who we were when you walked in which made us feel very welcomed and it gave a personal touch to the business transaction. Most banks don't have that anymore, it was very much appreciated. I ended paying $30 for a less than 15 minutes transaction inside the parking lot behind Thai bank. When I got inside the teller informed me that there was parking upstairs in the garage available for free, however, the lot was full. The bank is inside of a building in the downtown area so I'm sure they share the garage with other companies. Basically all though parking is free it wasn't available. I would definitely come back to this bank, if I could find free parking lol. It was such a pleasant experience. read more

Copy of my complaint to the Better Business Bureau: I opened a Chase Business Checking account in February and thought I was following the requirements needed for their $300 bonus offer. However, when I did not receive the bonus, I called to inquire. They told me that I did not meet the exact requirements, which honestly, as someone who worked at a bank for 20-years, if the verbiage listed on the bonus requirements were misleading for me, I do not think they are written or explained fairly. Either way, I accepted the responsibility but asked for an exception to be granted because clearly I was making a sincere effort to meet the requirements (maintained min. balance and completed ACH transfers). When I called back a week later, a representative told me that the request was approved and to expect to receive the bonus in 15-days. Well, 15-days came and went and I never received the bonus. I called back this morning and spoke to three different representatives (and none of them provided a warm handoff when they transferred me, so I had to re-explain my entire situation three times). One of the reps confirmed the note stating that my request was approved and that I was supposed to receive the bonus in 15-days. He even counted the days on the phone and confirmed that the timeline had surpassed without being credited. Then, he transferred me to a supervisor (Julie) who reversed course completely - she told me that I did not met the initial requirements and that the exception approval was a mistake and that she will put a complaint against the agents that told me it was approved. This is absurd and misleading. And it only $300, which is nothing for Chase. I do not understand how it was approved, and then all of a sudden it was not approved. And she was really rude about it and did not seem to want to help me at all. I have already called the FDIC, OCC, and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and now I am submitting this BBB complaint. read more

Every single time I've had to come here the wait is ridiculous. I don't understand it because they have spaces for 7 tellers but never have more than 2 working - at best. There are several employees walking around, even standing at the line greeting people but never taking care of us. I don't get it!!! It seems this branch only gets worse. Came in on a Friday and only 1 teller!!!! Line is outrageous while there are numerous staff walking around doing nothing!!!! What is the point?! read more

Despite not having an attached parking lot (although they may validate in one of the nearby garages, I am not sure), this branch is always busy. They have four or five ATMs, and there is always a line for those. When I stopped during lunch hour, they had ONE teller window open. I had to wait 20 minutes, basically wasted my entire lunch break. Meanwhile, they had a second teller processing what appeared to be lock box/business deposits, and a third one doing who-knows-what. I've worked in a bank and realize there are deadlines, but the customer who is in front of you should come first. Aside from the wait times at this particular location, I am very happy with Chase as a bank. They make it easy to bank with them and they don't hassle me with cross selling or spam. read more

There should be a Class Action Lawsuit brought against Chase and Amazon. Here is my Nightmare. Amazon allows customers to apply for a CHASE Visa. Every time they apply, CHASE will do a hard inquiry on your SSN and your credit score will drop 3 points. Last May, Credit Karma sent me an alert informing me there was a change on my credit score. I discovered it was CHASE Bank who I had NO dealings with. I contacted CHASE and they told me they would remove the inquiry within 90 days. Mean while, I kept getting more alerts from Credit Karma and my credit score kept taking a nose dive. I phoned Chase Bank again and discovered they do not have red flags on they're computer system which would warn other Representatives there is Fraudulent activity on your SSN. So Chase Representatives will keep pulling your credit report over and over each time they will continue to lower your credit score by 3 points. When I complained, they said it's not the Bank's problem and stated I had to contact Amazon. I tried to obtain the address the thief used on the credit card application but they said giving me that information would be a violation of Chase company policy because I could be the thief. I contacted Amazon and they gave me a hard time as well and referred me back to Chase. I was being bounced back and forth so I told the Bank and Amazon, they have no integrity and had created a system which makes it easy for thieves to steal the identities of others. They didn't care. All they want is for people to keep buying Amazon products so Chase can make money off the credit card interest fees. Chase redirected me to the Credit Bureaus. The credit Bureau told me I had to go file a police report before they could help me. Let me warn you, the Credit Bureaus phone lines are being answered by people overseas. Many want to become American Citizens but they can't. These people have all our information. The police wouldn't help me because they said no crime had been committed. This is October and Chase has continued to pull Credit reports under my SSN and my credit Score continues to plunge. I just received another alert. I have constantly suffered at the hands of Chase and Amazon, during a time when an illness and loss of a love one put me in a state of depression. No one will help me. It takes years to clean this mess up, and when you do another mess is piling up some place else. I know there are other victims out there please contact me. read more

Horrible Customer Service. Waited over an hour to open an account with a banker. The banker came back and read my name off the list and said what can I help you with today? I said I need to open an account. He said "sorry man we don't got time for that today" I said, are you kidding? you close in 45 minutes? He said yeah accounts can take up to an hour to open so I don't have time today. Then he said one second let me ask if it's okay with my manager. Then, he proceeded up to the teller and was muttering stuff to her and laughing for a good 15 minutes. He came back and said come back to my desk. I sat down and said great! you were able to do it after all! He said nope actually just giving you my card. It's really painful to go to this bank. They have one untrained teller, two if you are lucky and two empty machines that no one wants to use, so when you get there you have a 20 people line waiting to be assisted by the two exhausting undertrained slow tellers and two empty machines. Obviously the system doesn't work and they refuse to see this. No managers on sight cause they are all sitting behind the wall that's behind the tellers. Cero customer service, zero speed. Don't go and get stressed there. read more
