I'm a simple man..I just need a good gym. Don't need saunas, don't need massage tables, don't need bull crap monikers. But I'll tell you what, atleast put toilet paper and soap in your bathrooms. A sign read "we are switching soap vendors.....sorry blah blah". You are kidding me right? Which corporate stooge in some office building manages this gym? Hahha. Do better. Simple things. was a member at Mundeline the peeople and the staff were good but when it was time to cancel they said i had a contract and that i had to pay. I moved out of the area and they were very polite in sending me to collections for a memebership i no longer used. they are awsome. thank you Charter fitnes (not) ! read more

I like this gym. Needed a month membership, they were happy to accommodate and by far the cheapest game in town. It's a no frills gym, you get the equipment you need, some old towels, lockers, and a water foundation. It's well equipped though, you won't be in want of free weights, machines, or treadmills. I do wish the hours were longer, especially Sundays. Beware of the all purpose room after 5pm, the sun heats it up quite a bit. Perhaps an added plus for all you crazy hot yoga people! read more

DRASTIC drop in my opinion. Did charter get new owners or something? Let me explain... It's been almost two years of training with mark, he's still amazing and my life coach basically. The gym, however, is the absolute worst. They recently increased prices on personal training and it's a complete JOKE! I would be fine paying the increase if they maybe cleaned the bathroom, bought treadmills that work, gave the trainers a cut.. but none of that is happening. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. The owner is out of his mind to be charging $150 for 4 personal training sessions a month. It's a 3 month commitment so I broke down the math for everyone- $450 for three months (not including your monthly fee, mines $20) $450+ $60= $510 for three months. $2040/year. 450/12=$37.50 per class. What if you miss one? Well then you're out of luck. The training was previously $30 AT MOST. I usually paid $28 during promotions. So $336 for 12 classes. That's $114 extra that is in no way shape or form going back into the gym. I previously paid for 2-3 sessions a week and now I'm only going to do one. Charter, you're cheap. That's how you win the corner. Your advantage is pricing. Losing that is a really bad move. read more

Cheap cost. A lot of machines. never really have to wait to use machines. A lot of TV's to watch while working out. Bathrooms are moldy though. I had a membership for several years, a couple years ago. My exhusband did as well. My daughter had one for many years. Billing needs help though. If you get a new credit card and a new phone number, make sure to call right away to update your card. They do not send you anything in the mail to let you know your card keeps getting declined. They send to collections without trying all means to let you know. My daughter had a membership that she didn't use too much in the last year. Instead of mailing me a request for a credit card update, they sent it to collections. This was very lazy on their part and very upsetting for me. They had our address! That's how we received the letter from collections. Now, we are required to do another sign up fee even though all they had to do was mail me a letter. It was their fault so not really fair that I need to do another sign up fee. Maybe they do it on purpose to get another sign up fee out out of you. Why have collections mail a letter and then lose a customer? Why didn't management at the gym just send me a letter? I wanted to sign up back up at the gym for my own fitness goals and wanted to start making my daughter go more often with me. Now, I feel uncomfortable about going back and don't want to pay another sign up fee for my daughter. Unfortunately, they lost 2 customers over this. I had gotten a divorce this year so my life was turned upside down. My daughter and I also had significant health issues in the past year with hospitalization. You would think the general manager Ryan would be able to waive the sign up fee for my daughter since it was their fault for not trying all means to reach out. Just more disappointment this year. read more

One of the larger Charter Fitness' I've been to. I love how spacious it is and everything is spread out. There is 2 of every weight machine which is awesome so my best friend and I don't have to switch out between sets and can simultaneously work out. The bad part of this location is that it is very dirty. Floors are gross there is dust everywhere and walls and ledges are sticky. The charter I normally go to, is being cleaned by the staff every hour. I used to work in a fitness center for 4 years and we also did the same, clean every hour. Not only is the place dirty, but the machines look like they have never been wiped down and all the upholstery, I guess you would call it, is all ripped and torn apart. I guess I'm spoiled at the location I go to because they always replace it. Anyway, not stopping me from coming back. Just wish they would clean better. read more

This gym used to be owned by Cardinal Fitness, and used to be located at the corner of 63rd and Cass. The new building is great! Much larger space, so more machines, more room for floor workouts. Very clean and well laid out. Staff is just okay - nice, but not the "go out of your way" type. At least, from who I have worked with. Prices are cheap! 10 or 20 bucks/month. Not as glamorous as Lifetime, but definitely what you need. read more

Perspective: you're paying $10 a month. You're not going to get the Lifetime Fitness experience. But boy is it worth the $10. The treadmills and bikes are clean and in working order. There's a big room with mats and balls and TRX equipment for people like me who are intimidated by all of the single-muscle-group machines. The locker room is clean, and the showers have enough pressure to wash your body after working up a sweat before you sneak back to the office. I workout at lunchtime, when there are about 20 guests, so crowds are not an issue. I signed up for ten personal training sessions, and was matched up with Joe, who is a great trainer. He is encouraging and keeps me motivated. read more

An okay gym for people looking for an inexpensive, basic place close to home. There is nothing fancy here. Not a variety of equipment. Cardio machines do not have individual TV's. You won't have studio space for free use. The good: Staff is fairly friendly. It was not a crowded place even at rush hour. It's pretty convenient that Charter is next to Whole Foods too. The weird: There are basic concrete floors, and funny thing, they are not level. This space used to be an Ace Hardware, and level floors were not important. But if you're lifting the rounded-end free weights, and set them down on the ground, they will roll away! Not a place that's up my alley; I like have bells and whistles at my gym. But I understand the appeal. read more

Thank you for making this happen for all of us. it is a friendly place to be, the customers welcomed me be in your community and thank you for letting me be in your location, I have moved into Westmont and it is closer to me. I have been a member of Charter Fitness for over 3 years. Here are some Pro's and Cons that I have found over that time: Pros: - Cardio/Weight/Machines only. Not paying for any other unnecessary equipment that you don't use - Staff is very friendly and always says hey and goodbye when you enter/leave - Locker Rooms are always clean and have plenty of space for even the busiest hours - Heavy Hours (5-7 PM Weekdays) aren't as bad as other gyms and you can still find and use equipment needed for your workout - Parking is easy and convenient (don't need to park far away) - Huge calisthenics area with surround glass view and padded floor (great for abs, or a body weight warm-up) - They have a point system which (after a long enough time) you can earn a month free membership or even your own personal training session) Cons: - For $19.95/month, do not expect there to be much more than just the basic equipment/weights/machines - The Men's Showers can sometimes have a fowl smell occasionally which isn't very pleasant - There are only two squat racks which tend to always be taken during busy hours, would benefit if they got two or three more. - No rowing machines (one of my favorite warm ups) - No Hot Tub or Lap Pool (this would be awesome if they were able to add this to the facility) Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants the basic fitness gym without all the extra additions that shoot your membership through the roof. Get it, kill your workout, and get out. read more

Loud, annoying music. Gross bathroom. Rude staff. Filthy equipment. What else do you need to know?

I've been a member of the charter family for ten years now. The Willowbrook facility is the largest I've seen. It's spacious enough to work out comfortably. They've recently added rowing machines and other new equipment to enhance the gym going experience. The staff, especially Manager Jeremy, is always friendly and helpful. read more

Been coming here for about 2 years now. I currently use it as my second gym to Orangetheory in Willowbrook, but it has really gone down hill in the past 9 months or so. The treadmills are filthy!!! Sweat and dust everywhere. STAFF...PLEASE WIPE THEM DOWN!! There are dirty towels everywhere and most of the insides of the lockers are dirty as well. Almost all of the bicycles have ripped up seats and Bosus and stability balls almost always need to be inflated. The only positives are the $10 a month membership and the fact that it is close to home. They also fail to tell you that you will be charged an annual fee of I believe its $40-ish. Come on Charter...have your staff actually get out from behind the desk and take an initiative. One other positive, there are a couple of friendly trainers there that have been around a while. WASH YOUR HANDS AND DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE!! read more

Do not go here! Place is disgusting. I canceled my membership with them and they never ran it through their system and I had to pay 5 months of fees! Tried talking to management but they were "unavailable for the last few weeks". Save your money and go to literally any other gym. read more

I noticed them with a pump the other day. Step in the right direction. Keep it up! Your efforts didn't go unnoticed.

Been a member here for about 4 months. Lots of cardio machines and equipment also have a second room with mats, bands, yoga blocks and weights. -1 star for the clientele. I'm not there to meet anyone or anything like that but a lot of the members there are very rude. Pushy when it comes to some of the equipment and don't wipe any of the machines down when they are done. Advice- wipe your machines before you use. -1 star though I think it's great they hire handicapped kids to work here doing things like wash towels and wipe down machines. One day while I was on an elliptical machine I saw one of these kids wipe the handles and the foot pedals with the same towel on almost of the front two rows of elliptical machines. Foot pedals, handles. Over and over and I could feel my hand sweat getting slimy. Needless to say I couldn't wait till my workout was over so I could wash my hands. Ever since I saw that I always wipe down my machines before and after. read more

Gym is ok. But the contracts and payments suck totally. Beware

Super clean! 24 hours! What more could you want? Ample amounts of TVs and equipment! Trainers are top notch. Huge gym! Good job everyone!

I agree with the poster about the clientele. Too many people just sit on a machine, tuning in a new song on their ipods. Asking them to move doesn't work. They just act like you are interrupting them. You can't blame the gym for those people however. The facilities and the price are perfect for my 3X a week workouts. read more

Not bad overall, get what you pay for. Although they never clean the place. Disgusting read more

Charter Fitness - Not a bad gym but I don't know if they do any cleaning at this gym, it's disgusting - Gyms Near Me - Willowbrook, Illinois

I love this gym! Simple no frills style place with a good variety of equipment that would make most fitness enthusiasts happy. Employees are always friendly and helpful. I love the vibe in here. Quite refreshing honestly, compared to the snootyness and pretentiousness of a lifetime fitness for example. My only gripes with this place is that there's only two squat racks, dumbells only go up to 100 lbs, and from time to time if a machine breaks down it does take them a while to fix it. But overall this is a great place, and the best part is even is you come here during peak hours I've rarely had to wait for a machine or bench. read more

I'm giving this place only 2 stars bc their cancellation policy from corporate is ridiculous. I moved into a new house in Bolingbrook and need to cancel my membership because of distance. They told me they couldn't waive the fee bc there was another chapter fitness 14 miles from my new house. The person at the gym was extremely nice about it and was just enforcing corporate rules. It would cost me more money and time to go to the "closest" location than my actual membership costs. I tried calling corporate about this and they gave me the same answer. I'm very disappointed that this company obviously cares more about money than good members. read more

The building is nice and all but the locker rooms smell horrible. They need better maintenance and cleaning of the facility because this is unacceptable. People are out here getting sick just from going to the locker room. read more

Nice, clean facility, plenty of equipment, and staff members Jeremy and Eric were most knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks!

This new location is lifetimes better than the old one. Very spacious and plenty of machines for everybody. The only issue is parking. It is shared with about 5 other businesses. I'm going to the gym for exercise though. I can walk from a few extra rows away. Sucks when it is raining. read more

I went to join. Looked and smelled like a no frills gym. Waited by counter for help. People came by reaching over counter rifling through drivers licenses to find their own. Walked around. Checked out locker room. Finally ran into desk guy. Does being cheap mean being unfriendly? I expressed real interest in joining but I always have questions. He didnt like my questions about the licenses and unmanned desk. So ten bucks to join and ten bucks a month? $20. The first month and ten after? Not exactly, there is a $49.00 fee down the road....so it is really not what they advertise. I walked out. Why not just put it in writing , up front, what it costs? read more

A 3D facility - dismal, dark and depressing. A step backward from the previous location at 63rd and Cass Avenue. I tried unsuccessfully to like the new facility for a year and finally cancelled my membership after seven enjoyable years at the 63rd and Cass facility. More is not necessarily better! read more

I guess you get what you pay for...this place is dirty, dark and just flat out unclean. I've been to many charter Fitnesses in the area and have to say this is the worst by far. It will do if you need a gym and are on a budget but this isn't my cup of tea. read more

I love this gym, I was paying far more at Westmont's healthclub. It depends what you're looking for, because it doesn't have all the classes available that Westmont did, which I could still sign up for separately at Westmont, if I wanted to attend exercise classes through the park district. Charter has far more equipment available, which on busy days and hours, is important. They have a separate studio area for floor exercises, stretching, dumb bells. To me it's definitely worth the price. The only problem I've noticed so far, is because you pay monthly, and it's automatically charged to your credit card, it's not a bill you think about, or even receive a statement on. I've had to change my credit card sometimes, due to fraud, or it's lost, and of course sometimes would forget to update all the little auto charge accounts that go on it. They will rack up late charges, ($30) and their contact method in letting you know your credit card number needs to be updated, isn't the best. I was surprised that it didn't register at the gym, as I kept going for two months, not realizing the credit card listed was my old one. No email sent on it, but I do get emails on the points I earn each time I go to the gym. It wouldn't make sense not to use that as a method to let people know their account needs updating. I would think that upon signing in, it would register immediately, and staff would let you know. I finally found out, because my daughter told me that Charter kept calling the house, and they forgot to tell me. read more

I love when they say this is a brand new club but they closed their Cass Avenue club to open this one. And some of their equipment is noticeably secondhand with pieces missing off of it. Then again Charter has closed a lot of locations not just the Cass Ave one so apparently that is how they were able to stock this "brand new gym" with equipment. It's much bigger than the other gym they had but absolutely nothing new in terms of pools or tanning beds. I've been a member for a while and these guys better get it together soon or I'm going to Blast Fitness for a better value and a club that really IS new. read more

The pluses are that this facility has plenty of elbow room, a good sound system and plenty of TVs. However, nothing against concrete if this was Venice Beach gym. I love concrete as much as Mitt love's Big Bird. But concrete and big birds belong outside. The shiny coating may be a real slip hazard on those wet & snowy days. This gym really needs to carpet over the cement. Also, updating some of the weight machines may be in order as well. Some of them seem to be the rejects that were poorly designed for the body from their first day out of the factory ... namely but not limited to the leg curl, back extension and seated lat pull, all of which are on the concrete floor. read more

I only gave it a 1 to make sure it was adding into the average. I signed up online about 13 months ago but never attended the gym. A new $40 annual fee appeared on my credit card, which prompted me to call. They said I had to come in to cancel. Then when I came in to cancel I asked about getting the new ann fee waived. Young girl said they can't, that I should contact Finance co. So I did. They said no way, they're just a Finance co. Need to write a letter. So I wrote a letter and hand delivered to Brian the morning manager. He did not even try to be sympathetic, he said "you signed a contract." I said I thought explaining eye to eye would surely make someone be reasonable. He just had a smug smile, oh so borderline condescending. I told him his company was unethical and left. A lot of wasted time. Fine print says 30 days notice for any charge, including new annual fee. Be careful, this place prides itself on lack of human connection. read more

Been coming here on and off for awhile now...probably close to 6 or 7 months. I have a membership that allows for me to go to different Charters...gotta say...6-7 months and the same lockers are busted? The same treadmills still have the same broken Ipod cables??? The locker room is a disaster. I change here when I absolutely HAVE to...otherwise I bring my basics with me and avoid that experience all together. Someone else pointed out the cleaning procedures done here...or lack thereof....spot on. Wipe down everything you use before you use it. A big plus is their training room...TRX workout readily available for all and pretty spacious along with weighted rope training and plent of Bosu and yoga balls available.. Free weights are absolutely awesome and the range of equipment particularly for leg day is well worth other inconveniences. Bottom line...no frills gym with an old school feel...kinda weird since it's fairly new. read more
