At the time of service cancellation, I will have had internet services through charter for approximately 24 hours. During that time, I had issues with rolling outages every 5 to 10 minutes during "prime time." I was informed that there were no technical issues and that there was nothing Charter could do to resolve my problem. I have switched back to my old ISP and gotten a full refund (or so I have been promised) due to Charters 30 day money back guarantee. I do not recommend their services to anyone. read more

I just signed up for internet service with a great promotional rate. The installation went well and service was great. I was told to call after the first promotional rate was up to get a new promotional rate. CONSUMER BEWARE there is not a new promotional rate they offer. Now I pay $60 per month. Customer service isn't apologetic or helpful unless you want to bundle more services. I'm a single mother with good credit and great payment history. Charter is load of crap. Yea the customer service is pretty hazy, and the billing is a nightmare, but also the service is terrible. My normal bill is $39.99 , and not only was I charged over twice what my bill normally is, but they said I wasn't going to be charged it in the first place! Yea, sure they took off 20$ from my 121$ bill, but if the case was you charge me an arm and a leg for a new router or I buy a new one myself and don't have to pay a monthly fee of $5 to use theirs.... I'll chose the latter. All I wanted was for them to remove the extra charges and to take their router back so I can buy my own and just use the service and not their product. I am sick of Charter/Spectrum raising their prices every other month. I want to get rid of my Cable TV, I am a cord cutter, and just have Internet with their FABULOUS Streaming APP, but, that is not cost effective - that's how they get ya. I will save only $12 a month. My bill for just Internet and Cable is $117 and do not even have home phone. For just Internet it is $65 regular and $95 ultra. Add $35 for streaming package and we are OVER what I am paying now! I am going to stop paying my bill until they contact me and then I will cancel service unless they give me the package specials that they give new customers. Poor customer retention. They figure once they have their cable wrapped around you you cannot get away. I have Internet on my phone and will CAST to my TVs if I have to. Horrible. My bill is never consistent. The internet never works as said. The app for tvs doesn't get all the channels like the box even though it should. Absolute nightmare dealing with the customer service (especially the supervisor Beth H) Their own tech notices they left 6 open ports that slows my internet connection to less then 1/3rd what i am paying for. Can I rate them a negative star? It physically hurts me to rate even 1 star. My husband and I have been with Charter for years in Turlock and literally since the day (on the day) our internet was installed we have had issues. The internet goes out every night around 1 or 2 am. We work nights and like to enjoy the wee hours of the morning watching shows and playing games. We call the call center everytime and they make you go through the same dang drill (automated) until finally you can reach a human...who barely speaks English...who tells you to run the same stupid drill AGAIN. Trying to spin it as the customers faulty set up. Then we're told (literally every night) "Well I see that there are no outages in your area, you should change out your modem". ARE YOU KIDDING?! Installer came out to run a new line from attic to living room. A hole was made in the wrong area, not his fault, the way the house is built it could have happened to anyone. He reported it to his supervisor. They had Torre Construction call and arrange a convenient time for me to meet them at my house. They were here today and did a terrific job. I went to drop off an extra receiver I had and the line was almost out the door because there was only 1 person working. I understand people are on lunch and what not. However, a lady came back and was just sitting on her computer not helping the rest of the customers. Nobody even acknowledge those who were waiting patiently in line. Horrible service... some guy named Austin came to our house and told us to get a bundle of Internet, phone, and TV and to call in 30 days later to cancel so we don't get charged an activation fee. I told him we only want internet, he said if we did it like that, that we would get charged an activation fee. So we left it at that. I get a bill a couple days later and I called him and asked him, hey do we pay this or ignore it since it includes phone and TV services, he said to ignore it, so I did. We call in 30 days after and we're told that we can't make changes to our account until our Balance of $260 I'd paid. I told them about this guy who told us too cancel. They basically told me 'you were misinformed but you still gotta pay' they don't even care that they're cheating people. I ended up switching to AT&T and got a better rate and amazing customer service. Charter was our first carrier at our new house and they ruined it. This company lies every time you contact them. Got internet & tv service for $87.99 per month already including taxes at a locked rate as stated by the agent that helped me. They said installation was going to be free. After 2 days of installation I checked my e-bill and it was at $134.99. Called customer service and they said it was because of installation fees. I highlighted that the representative I spoke to said installation was at no cost. They agreed to waive the installation fee but then went on by telling me my monthly rate was at $101.98 per month, however at the beginning the gave me a quote of $87.99. They did not want to honor the first price. And throughout the call all representatives were contradicting themselves. I do not recommend spectrum! Don't waste your time with unprofessional company's that say different things every time. They also do not want to honor a flier that we received at out house which stated a promotion which was still good for $75 for both internet and tv. They false advertise! Do not get them! read more

Worst over the phone customer service I've ever experienced. Kept conveniently hanging up on me when asking to talk to a manager. Telling me a technician will come out in a couple weeks. Terrible service. Pay per view constantly freezes on UFC and boxing matches. On the phone for two hours and were willing to refund for ONE DAY OF SERVICE!!!! Wow terrible service first off i moved into my new home 9 months ago in ceres california to find out 6 months into my spectrum/charter service that my power unit the box outside has been laying down flat in the dirt for what is now 8 months with the internet cord broken and kinked up i have had 4 of these techs come to my home and tell me this with each subsequint tech passing the buck of providing a fix to the problem to the next tech construction crew etc....... With the company providing the main buffer of excuses saying that there techs have not put in the notes or they see the notes but they send the wrong crew out for instance if we tell spectrum our net company that we need there construction crew and we complain they havent sent them they will instead send out a tech who cant do the job with full knowledge he cant do the job because he is not construction/maintenance who actually works on this stuff...all in an attempt to shut me up and stall for more time i am not pacified by this and i am growing more angry by the day i would have switched company's for service already but until i get the main box/line fixed i think the problem would simply persist across company's and switching would be made pointless and just further my discontent about it all.... So in a nutshell if your thinking Spectrum/Charter for tv/Net and your area has any other options i would strongly caution against using there services unless unfortunatelly there the only game in town in which case : ( J. The channels always go out and say "temporarily unavailable" the customer service is ridiculous and they obviously have no idea on how to fix the frequent problems that this business faces. The absolute worst internet and cable service i have ever had!! You cannot get a single person on the phone who knows what they are doing, they are all rude and short over the phone. Let me start from the begining; Charter came into my home to instal internet and cable on 7/13/13. The service tech was nice, it was really hot out and i continued to offer him water the entire three hours he was in my home and in our attic. After completion of the installation, i went into my bedroom to notice a HUGE crack across my bedroom ceiling. I immediatlely called charter. They were nice over the phone on that first day, and actually sent over a supervisor to my home within a few days. The supervisor took a few pictures, measured the crack ( 4 1/2 feet) apologized for his technician failing to notify us of the damage and informed me a damage claims representitive would be in contact with me. The next day i recieved a nearly 200 dollar bill in the mail for the installation. This got under my skin, i was not happy with my experience thus far; why would i pay 200 dollars for a crappy experience and damage to my home? Fast forward about a week, i get another letter informing me that i need to gain a qoute for the said damage in my home. I am a mother of four, with a full time 40 hour per week job, although gaining a qoute was a pain in the butt for me, i gained the qoute and needed to forward my qoute to charter in order to proceed with the repairs. HERE is my issue; i have contacted Charter not once, not twice, but THREE seperate times. The initial phone call left me on hold so long i had no choice but to end it. The secondary phone call left me irate after not one but TWO people claimed they did not know how to get a hold of their claims department but they could send an email and i would be contacted within 24 hours. That was on 8/22/13. Here we are 8/28/13 and i still have not been contacted, so i called yet again... This time the lady gave me a phone number to call for an "Erica Brown" Low and behold this phone number is disconnected. I am utterly frustrated and enraged. DO NOT USE CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS!!!!!! Great service compared to AT&T's U-Verse service. Easy online navigation to pay your bill online. If you need to call, you don't wait on hold forever and don't have to go through 50 menus to get to the right person. I only gave Charter 3 stars because my service will occassionally drop and they haven't been able to explain why. Only that "maybe they are doing maintenance in your area" but no troubleshooting on their end. But their internet service is super fast. My kids both have Xbox Live accounts and never complain about the speed. read more

Charter Communications should not be allowed to have a monopoly on ANY local area. The service is pathetic with too many malfunctions. I had an appointment set up which I confirmed with a live agent and the automated phone system the night before. I received a second phone call the day of the appointment. Charter cancelled the appointment because the SECOND phone call was not confirmed. I found this out after waiting 2 hours for the service tech to show up. Somehow you are expected to wait by the phone or you lose your appointment-no bathroom breaks are allowed! This means that after you confirm your Charter appointment with both a live person and automated call the day before, you STILL need to hang around for a THIRD confirmation or lose the appointment you have already confirmed twice earlier! There ought to be a law against such stupidity! Comcast needs to come to this area!!! read more

Charter is so terrible!!! We had the worst experience with these guys. We canceled our service because the cable was really bad. After we canceled it they charged us for everything we canceled after they told us that they wouldn't!!! We called 5 times! Each person that we talked to said that our issue had been resolved. Then the following month we would receive another bill in the mail for the full amount!!! When we finally spoke with headquarters and got someone on the line, that wasn't a complete idiot, they were able to finally deal with our situation. A month later we got a bill in the mail for the correct amount and then a day later got a bill from a freaking collections agency!!!! The guy at the collections agency told us that those crooks reported our bill to them on the same day charter mailed their bill to us!!! Then we had to pay an additional $7 processing fee which went to Charter! We have Direct TV now and I will never go back to Charter. We recently ordered the Charter bundle including cable tv, land line phone, and internet. Included in the order were two HD cable boxes. I asked the sales rep if we could just run basic cable outlets into my three empty bedrooms to accommodate my grandchildren and guests with basic TV when they spend the night. Ordinarily those bedrooms are not used, and I did not want the monthly expense of providing HD boxes for three empty bedrooms. He assured me three different times during the course of the sales pitch that this would be done as a courtesy. The installer arrived on the scheduled day. He was rubbing bleary eyes and obviously in need of more sleep. When wife my informed him about the cable outlets in the the three empty bedrooms, he told her it was not on his work order, so he would not do it. When she attempted to explain what we were promised this service multiple times by the sales rep, he ignored her. When she asked him to call his supervisor, he said he was too busy. We cancelled on the spot fearing that this would be a precursor of what is to come with Charter. The installer gladly went on his way without making any attempt to resolve or rectify the situation, or even to apologize. read more

GET DISH! This crap company came to my house to hookup Internet and cable. They sent out a meth addict that only spoke Spanish and some broken English and mean he was spun out! High as a kite. He spent 1 hour trying to find the area out side to run wires to there receiver but he couldn't find it. It turns out that they don't have a cable connection on my street but they are the only ground line providers in the area. I got a call from his supervisor saying my street didn't have a connection yet and for a specialist to come out to install one it would cost $3,000. These fools wanted me to pay for my whole neighborhood to be able to get cable from there scumbag company! Hell no this is there responsibility to be able to provide cable not mine. I will never ever in my life do business with these low lives. I will the the world and every one in it to get dish almost as if dish was paying me to. That's how much I hate charter.I hope there company crashes, burns, and gets swallowed by comcast. I hope all there employees loose there jobs and have a hell of a time finding new ones. I have been with Turlock Charter for 6 years. I have their Internet service only and will never try any other service with them. Only one cable company can service a city. Cable Internet happens to be the fastest service available. That is the only reason I am with charter. Charter cable is described as "hit and miss". 85% of charter's installs and trouble calls are serviced by contractors. I know because I worked for one of the contracting business before. As bad as Charter's service is, contractors that work for charter are treated the same way. I will tell why this company gets nothing done. Contractors' cable knowledge is as good as "common sense" and experience over time. 50% of cable service issues are caused by bad installs. Charter phone reps will always send out a technician/contractor if they can't solve your problem. It is standard procedure. Your lucky if you get a in-house technician. Your will never get a tier two technician. If the tech can't fix your cable problem. He either asks for help or he turns in a SRO(special request order) the next day requesting a tier two technician. Most of the time the order never gets to charter. Because charter often does not believe in their own contractors that they have hired. Also a SRO goes through three people(contractor supervisor, contractor quality control tech, and then to charter field supervisor) before they send out a tier two tech to check your cable problem. Charter system(city cable lines) is crap. Their equipment is crap. It is most imbarrasing when you are trying to install equipment at a customers house when charter's equipment often fails on you. All you get is a technician doing laps between your house and his truck until he gets a cable box that actually works. Don't ever get charter phone service. It will be your most unreliable and unsafe LAN line ever. The phone sevice is VoIP. The dial tone pretty much comes out a Internet modem. Cable signal is very sensitive to radio waves; and it is normal for cable Internet service to drop-off. On Charters part, their cable Internet drops off a lot. So if you have a home alarm system I would not recommend charter/cable phone service it is too agile and unsafe. read more
