We came here for dinner after a very long day at work and were looking forward to a relaxing evening. We had made a reservation and were promptly seated. We were impressed by the decor of the restaurant. They had a big selection ton of wine which we enjoyed, but there wasn't much choice on the cocktail menu-mostly sweet drinks which in our opinion don't go with a nice steak. To start we both had the salad bar which was bountiful and fresh. We then shared a shrimp cocktail and the steak kebab. The steak was one of the best we have had in a long time. Why not a five star review? Our server was very sullen and seemed quite annoyed that we were even there. It was just not a welcoming vibe in the slightest. This was the fourth restaurant meal we had in the area, and the other three could not have been more friendly. After a very long day, it's just not what we want to deal with grouchy service no matter how good the food is. Looking back at the other reviews, I don't think we were alone in our experience. If this restaurant can change and deliver more friendly and welcoming service, it woukd be a stellar place to eat. Until then, we would probably try a different restaurant.

Fancy flair in Hickory! We went on a Wednesday evening right as they opened and were surprised by how many reservations they had for the middle of the week. Nevertheless they were able to seat us as walk ins. I just had a standard house salad but their deluxe salad and soup bar (for an up charge) definitely looked good. What's makes this place unique is they have 2 cuts of steak that they hand cut at your table if you wish. They do have other cuts and full menu of steak isn't your thing. Everyone enjoyed their meals, filet, ribeye, crab cakes and sides. Only complaint was the steaks were a tad dry but the butter topping helped. Overall service was excellent and there is a small parking lot. Despite being fancy looking on the inside, we were in casual clothes and saw other parties come casually dressed. We did see our fair share of what appeared to be corporate dinners as well. If you're looking for a bit of a higher end place rather than the chain steakhouses, definitely give this place a visit

The service, salad bar, and steaks were all fantastic! The Monday night deals cannot be beat!! Absolutely recommend for a date night or nice dinner.

We were traveling home and wanted a good, quality meal. Normally you need reservations in advance. We were 15 minutes away when I called and she said she had 1 table. It was worth it! I ordered the petite sirloin and my husband the butchers cart Ribeye. They were cooked to perfection! Great flavor and perfect tenderness. Our glasses were never empty for long. Served and Butcher came back to ensure our meat was cooked to our liking. We will definitely drive back up from South Carolina to revisit them. Folks beside us were a little loud but overall, great experience.

I tried Charolais for my first time Friday night. When I tell you it was the best experience. I had reservations @8:45. The power had went out at charolais and the owner still honored our reservation and allowed us to come in and eat after hours! The food and the waiter was amazing! The ambiance of the atmosphere was such an awesome.

We love old time steak houses. Loved the ambiance here, very busy so make sure to make reservations. The bar area is cool, salad bar for me was a little weird these days but it wasn't bad. Had the French onion soup from the salad bar and was ok. Our waitress was great but she kind of rushed us along which was a little annoying. We were trying to relax and enjoy the evening but the waitress kept rushing us, food came out super quick which usually is a good thing but when the main comes minutes after being delivered the appetizer it's a little hard to relax lol. The prime rib was good, nothing special though.

I visited last night with friends and this is the best steak in the area. This place has it all, unassuming exterior opens to a modern cowboy feel on the inside with white tablecloths. We happened to go yesterday for a friend's birthday and discovered this wonderful Monday special they have. $55 gets you one appetizer, and two entrees complete with a salad, a side, and bread. INSANE deal! We upgraded our house salads to the salad bar, and I 100% recommend you do the same. This is not some crappy salad bar with pasta salads and the like poured into containers for a crowd; everything is homemade and delicious. They also have 6 different kinds of cheese and 2 homemade soups for you. I enjoyed their cheddar cheese spread and the French Onion Soup. Our steaks were perfect. I did have to send my back to get it to the correct temp, but everyone else's was cooked to temp. The flavor was incredible. We all got fillet, but I was so tempted to get something off of the Meat Cart the wheel around to cut special for you. Next time! We were so stuffed, we couldn't even think about dessert. It's ok, you come here for the meat! The Good * Onion Rings with homemade Ranch * The phenomenal salad bar * The cheddar cheese spread * The filet mignon * The cocktails * Service: our server was amazing. The Bad * The heat: A/C can't keep up with the open flame in the open kitchen. The Ugly * One of the servers was dripping sweat. I felt so sorry for him. I was also dripping sweat and felt a little miserable.

I was looking forward to our reservation because of all the positive talk about the food & service, however, my group and I thought the food was just okay. We are glad that we went for Queens Feast because we got four courses for $40; the price points on the regular menu seem a bit high for the quality of food. The Bacon Steak was delicious & the Caesar Salad was good. While our steaks were cooked exactly how we asked, they were flavorless - not what you would expect from a high-end steakhouse. The service was dissatisfying and our server was blatantly annoyed and rolled his eyes when a group member made a request. The tables were fairly close together & it was very loud, almost difficult to hear one another. It was also so hot that servers were sweating through their shirts. More than one person in our party commented on the heat & the sweat. Our dinner reservation was at 8 & we were promptly seated. Our server got our drink orders quickly but took a while to come to back for our food orders. We waited 10 minutes between the 1st & 2nd courses, 30 minutes for our 3rd/main course & 35 minutes for our 4th course. Overall it was not an experience that makes me want to go back. I do not recommend.

Great service great food. Salad bar is awesome. Improvement could be more variety on the cheeses in the salad bar.

The vibe was a guy playing piano who sang so well! we enjoyed the dimmed lights and the lowkey vibe atmosphere with it being classy. overall great dinner!

Disorganized and Disappointing…read more We had high hopes for Duke's, especially with its upscale vibe and menu, but the reality fell far short. From the moment we sat down, things started going sideways. First red flag? The water left on our table had bugs floating in it. Not a great start. The waitress, while friendly, seemed completely overwhelmed--she forgot our orders multiple times, asked the same questions repeatedly, and left us waiting far too long between check-ins. It took 40 minutes just to get our soups, and the entrees didn't arrive until over an hour after we ordered. The entire experience felt chaotic. At one point, another server brought two dishes and a drink to our table that weren't even ours. Total confusion. Now let's talk about pricing--specifically, a $12 charge to split a 24 oz ribeye. How does that make sense when one person might not even be able to finish it? It felt like a greedy upcharge for no real reason. Menu clarity was another issue. The sides weren't listed clearly, and no one explained that the "loaded potato" option was actually a soup--not an actual potato. The clam chowder? It's a tomato-based red soup, which is definitely not what most people would expect when ordering chowder. A simple explanation from the staff would've gone a long way. The duck was actually fantastic, the crab cakes not so much. Dessert was also oddly handled. They offer a brownie, but ask, "Is that okay?" as if there are other options (there aren't). Then they bring one brownie split four ways--literally bite-sized portions on a single plate for a group of four. It felt more like a sampler than a real dessert. When it came time to pay, we were asked if we were ready for the check, but then they came back later and had to double-check everyone's order just to get the bill right. And instead of bringing the check, you're told to scan a QR code to pay--likely a move to avoid credit card processing fees, though it puts the burden on the customer to complete the transaction. Overall, Duke's tries to present itself as upscale, but the execution just isn't there. Sloppy service, confusing policies, and unnecessary upcharges make it hard to justify a return visit. Definitely not the dining experience we were hoping for.
