You have to remember that these are students learning their craft so they are not just going to cut your hair on the fly. They have instructors at the facility that watch & help the students. The students are able to ask questions and ask for help from their instructor so that they do things correctly (they don't want to send you home with a mohawk unless of course that was the cut you asked for). And when they are done the instructor has to sign off on it so to speak. If you like any of the products that they use on your hair, they sell them there so you don't have try and find it a a local store. Can't beat $10 for a shampoo, conditioning, cut & style. So even if you don't know anyone attending school at Lytle's you're helping new stylists, manicurists, estheticians, etc, by scheduling a cut, color, manicure, etc., and letting them practice what they've learned under the guidance of instructors. While this is at least $20 more than I've been charged at other Adveda salons (6 mos ago) , It is certainly their prerogative to charge that fee. The main issues are their business practices and a major discrepancy between the prices listed on their website ($80 and up for root touch up) and what they are actually charging. I brought this to their attention over the phone the day after the service, and the response I got, presumably from the owner, was that she didn't know where I was seeing that. I clearly reiterated that I was looking at their website, and that if the prices listed weren't current, they needed to be updated. I also did not receive a receipt at the time of service. I later requested it, and was told that it would be texted to me, but I never received it. I decided to write this review after reading another review from three years ago that mirrored my own experience--charged much higher than fees listed on the website with no receipt for service given. I am now feeling a bit dubious about the way they do business, and suspect that there might be different prices for the same service, for different people. I will acknowledge that I neglected to verify the fee when I made the appointment, which is something I always typically do. I also waited for a half hour past my appointment to be seen (without explanation or acknowledgment of the delay) but I have also experienced this at another local aveda salon. I have been to several stylists over the years who never mentioned any potential treatments for the thin hair. I made an appointment at Dolce Vita Salon for a color correction and met Kimberly. We talked about my thinning hair, and what my dream hair would look like. She was honest with me about the condition of my hair and what my options were. Kimberly recommended that we first evaluate and treat the scalp, and then suggested the idea of using a "topper" on my head, real hair styled in the way that I want, that would give the appearance of full and healthy hair while my own scalp heals. This seemed like such a reasonable idea, and basic, that I was surprised that nobody had ever mentioned this at other salons. Kimberly showed me examples of toppers to get me comfortable with the idea. She also made me feel like she was a friend who was collaborating with me more than someone who was just hired to work on my hair. We went ahead and ordered the topper. While we waited for it to arrive, Kimberly was in touch the entire time, sending e-mails with photos of hair toppers that would be realistic for my head. At her salon on October 7, it was time for the fitting. This being real hair, Kimberly had first shampooed and styled the topper, and then cut and curled it to fit my face. She showed me how to attach the topper to my head with clips that work with my bio hair, and then she let me try doing it myself. (I am still practicing in front of the mirror and getting more confident). I love the way the topper looks and fits, as does my husband, Alex.
