I stopped at the BP next door and the Exxon up the street but neither station had air. Not being from the area, I was nervous and noticed the Firestation next door to the BP. I stopped in and was greeted by Josh and explained my concerns. He too was surprised that neither station had air but did not hesitate to grab a tire pressure checker and check my tires for me. While Josh was checking my tire pressure, Julius joined us and shared with me how his sensors were doing the same thing. Josh assured me that my tire pressures were within range and I could continue my trip but to be sure and stop if needed. I am so grateful for their kindness and putting my worries at ease. Oddly enough, my TPMS light did not come back on and I made it home safely. Thank you!

It is a first class firehouse and fitting considering the sacrifices these fighters make to do their jobs. That said, I also appreciated that they were very mindful of being able to articulate a return on investment for how money was spent on the station. For instance, they are very green! . . . even the chiefs car is a hybrid. :) It was also sweet to hear our guide (I believe he was the chief) talk about their commitment to the community. They see themselves of members of the community so the firehouse reflects their loyalties to the community. There was Cavalier stuff all over including on the engines. Even the way the chief engaged the preschoolers was so precious. He was enthusiastic, informative and encouraging. Finally, the lobby was amazing. There were several items prominently displayed to pay homage to the fighters who lost their lives on 9/11. It resonated with me that they were all heroes before they died that day, we just became privy to acts of heroism that they had done or were willing to do long before that day. It was very moving. If you are not able to visit, just look at the pictures I posted. We have such rich history of that day in our city.

It's a rather large facility and it was busy, but the lines were organized by a queue that moved fast. It was beautifully maintained out front, although we did see some "loitering" by the steps. It was clean and tidy on the inside, which was a bright sunny spacious lobby. There was a big greeting card kiosk and plenty of mailing & shipping supplies offered. Also, there a lots of P.O. Boxes available inside. The downside is the parking as you need to park on the street or in the nearby parking deck. The lobby is understandably only open during business hours due to the many people wandering around the mall area to keep it safe and avoid folks "squatting" inside. But perhaps for that reason, it's inconvenient for people who may need to pick up their mail after hours. Hours M-F 8:30-5:00, closed Saturday

It is in a nice new building that is shared with Albemarle County. There are county ESOL offices upstairs and the county warehouse downstairs. Northside has a vast selection of books and other materials. You can do everything from check out a book to check out an internet hotspot for school work. Have kids and want to go to the Virginia Discovery Museum? You can pick up free passes here. The same is true for Va State Parks. The State Park kit includes a backpack with educational activities for kids. Interested in sewing or embroidery? Northside has maker kits that can be checked out as well. One of the services that I use are their meeting rooms. You can check out meeting spaces for 2 hours at a time. They are enclosed spaces with up to 4 people. It has an exterior monitor for presentations with multiple inputs. Don't want to come inside, no worries... they have drive up window to pick up and drop off books. Don't want to do that either? They have a great digital library where you don't have to leave your couch. If you want it, Northside has it!
