It is in a nice new building that is shared with Albemarle County. There are county ESOL offices upstairs and the county warehouse downstairs. Northside has a vast selection of books and other materials. You can do everything from check out a book to check out an internet hotspot for school work. Have kids and want to go to the Virginia Discovery Museum? You can pick up free passes here. The same is true for Va State Parks. The State Park kit includes a backpack with educational activities for kids. Interested in sewing or embroidery? Northside has maker kits that can be checked out as well. One of the services that I use are their meeting rooms. You can check out meeting spaces for 2 hours at a time. They are enclosed spaces with up to 4 people. It has an exterior monitor for presentations with multiple inputs. Don't want to come inside, no worries... they have drive up window to pick up and drop off books. Don't want to do that either? They have a great digital library where you don't have to leave your couch. If you want it, Northside has it!

For many years, this library was located in a building around the corner, where the Albemarle County Historical Society sits now. Charlottesville and Albemarle County purchased the old Post Office building in 1977 and after renovations and moving more than 90,000 books, the building became the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library on Market Street. I found the library's unique history interesting and visited last year. Although I did not check anything out they have an amazing collection. I would encourage a visit.

Also, they are part of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library system, so you can always request books from one of the surrounding libraries and pick it up from here if they don't have a specific book you're wanting. And of course, their online OverDrive collection is fantastic and so easy to use. Everyone who works here is so nice and helpful, which really makes for a great readers' community. We love our local public libraries!!!

Repeater... the grounds on the UVA Campus are amazing…read more Walking around the grounds, I was impressed at how clean, how natural, and how tranquil the fields were. I was certainly thinking of hyping this campus to my freshman niece. While I was there for a course I took notice of how folks congregated on the lawn, and the various lawn chairs, but the grounds provided both open and covered areas for study and social gatherings. The Rotunda itself is a beautiful centerpiece surrounded by pillars and paths floored by brick. Gardens everywhere. There's a small statue dedicated to the first president of the United States. It is centrally located, with academic buildings on one side, and mix of commercial buildings (food, snacks, banks, bookstores, UVA gear... ), it's all there. If you're a student you have quick access to everything. It's very convenient. Very impressed.

Monticello is probably the most famous of all the President houses (Mt Vernon may have it beat)…read more As a self-proclaimed Presidential history nerd, I have been to several presidential homes, libraries, museums, gravesites, monuments, etc. Monticello's history is the most interesting because of many factors including Jefferson's architectural obsession, the atrocities with slavery that occurred with building and maintaining it, and the innovations and experimentation Jefferson used while living here. Monticello is a huge operation. You should definitely get a reservation. You park at the bottom of the hill (or maybe middle of it) then you go through metal detectors and are now in the cafe/gift shop/bathroom area. From there you can take the 1/2 mile walk up hill to the home or take the bus. Once you are up top, you will be put into different huddles depending on your tour time. Oh, there are several different style tours, we just did the general admission tour. Anyway, you can walk around the grounds while you wait. The whole thing is very well organized. Our tour guide took us through various rooms in the house, pointed out various artifacts from Jefferson's past, told stories and was very knowledgeable when asked questions. The group I was in was probably 20 people. The whole tour took 45 mins. Then we walked the grounds independent of the tour including looking at Jefferson's family cemetery plot. My only issue is that I went on July 1st, 2026, so the whole back (or front) had a huge tent set up for the America 250 celebration. Not a big deal just didn't get the complete feel or pics.

I attended the 2023 UVA Graduation ceremonies and was not impressed with the number of balloons…read more My first thought was Generation Zs do not, whatsoever, care about the environment. Or the ocean. Or animals. Or their parents and loved ones seeing their faces as they graduate from such a prestigious university. UVA is beautiful though, and, with perfect weather, the ceremonies made for a lovely day of celebrations. And trash. Water bottles, programs, balloons...........all littered on the grounds as if a mini wave of Coachella had blown through. Mr. Jefferson shed a tiny tear for the trash, but smiled upon the graduates who will go forth and Wahoowa!

I was impressed with the size of this toy store and excited to see that they carry many of my favorite toy brands like Folkmantis, Calico Critters and Ravensberger puzzles. They had a lot of fun sounding games I hadn't heard of as well. Aside from high quality toys and puzzles Shenanigans also had some really nice seasonal stuff like Advent calendars. My husband and I explored for quite awhile and finally landed on a Jellycat branded stuffed animal for a friend. For such a lovely store I would have expected there to be a little bit more in the way of service. For the fifteen minutes we spent in there the only acknowledgement we received was three words when we checked out - twenty-three seventeen. Maybe the employee was just having a hard day.
