Stepping into this barbecue joint, a recipient of the prestigious Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ award,…read moreyou immediately get a sense that you're in for a treat. The atmosphere is inviting, with a clean and well-decorated interior, plenty of seating, and a friendly staff. But the real test is the food, and this place truly delivers on its reputation for solid Texas barbecue. The brisket was everything you want it to be: juicy and flavorful with a well-developed bark. It had a classic, hearty taste that made for a great main course. The pork spare ribs also had a great, flavorful bark, but they were a little on the tough side. They weren't the fall-off-the-bone tender ribs you might crave. The absolute star of the show, however, was the jalapeño and cheddar sausage. This homemade, double-grind sausage was perfectly seasoned and had a great blend of cheese and jalapeño mixed in. The casing had the perfect snap and was top-notch. The sides were equally impressive. The Maque-Choux (like a Cajun street corn) had a delightful char on the corn kernels and a perfect level of spice with a hint of red pepper. The pit beans were a classic, complementary side that made you feel like you were eating around a campfire, especially with the addition of some tender brisket mixed in. Not shown in the picture, the boudin cornbread was a delicious and unique surprise, filled with brisket, rice, and jalapeños. Overall, this is a spot I would highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic and high-quality Texas barbecue experience.

Last could of times I've had one it left me just a little disappointed. And I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a really decent size sandwich! I don't think most others would either. But what I really like is their Redneck Nacho's!!! It's their homemade potato chips topped with chopped beef, onions, jalapenos, sour cream, and just all the works. The servers are all pretty nice, but you order from an inside window and they'll call you up when you're order is ready. The inside isn't very big, but it's roomy enough for a small lunch crowd and there are decorations on the walls. All in all it's good, but could be better if they wanted to. They need to up their game now that there is some really good competition just about 8 miles further up the road. Chucks is pretty good for where it's at, but if you want to be good, be good, and work at it. Now they are just open from Thursday through Sunday. But if you were Really good, you could have it packed every day of the week and open for lunch and stay busy until you sell out in the late afternoon!! That way you wouldn't burn yourself out trying to have enough for the lunch crowd and waiting through a slack period in between lunch and dinner. Make though to pack them in for lunch but put your heart in it so people will be giving to get there for lunch!!! Once you run out, close shop, clean up and get ready to do it again the next day. People realize the cost of everything is high, but don't cut back trying to keep prices down. If you're product is good people don't mind paying for good food!!!

It's larger than it appears and is very clean. It is handicapped accessible, thankfully, with a ramp on the side and very large bathrooms. The menu is a la carte and the meat is sold by weight, so it is easy to over order by mistake. (I did, severely underestimating how much 1/3 of a pound was. So, I ended up with a generous portion of leftovers for my lunch the next day. Definitely a win-win scenario.) My husband and I both had the 1/3 lb pulled pork and a link of the jalapeño cheddar sausage (also approximately 1/3 lb). There was their own BBQ sauce on the table that others in my party liked, but I thought the pork was very well seasoned as is. The sausage was probably the best I've had, with a great jalapeño taste and lots of cheddar chunks throughout. The casing had a wonderful snap. My DIL had the brisket, so juicy and tender, and my son had the smoked turkey - really a superior meat. I chose the macaroni & cheese as a side. It was super creamy and had green chilies throughout, giving it a nice heat. My husband had the baked beans which he really enjoyed. The other side ordered was the tater tot casserole. That was knock-your-socks-off delicious. It made the famous chain restaurant ("CB") version of hash brown casserole pale in comparison. Seriously, it was unbelievably delicious. Every plate (tray) came with a homemade cucumber pickle and pickled onions, nice to cut the delicious meats' "fattiness." There was also a sweet cornbread muffin that tasted more dessert-y than side dish-y. A lovely young gentleman came out of the kitchen while we were eating to offer us a sample of their "beef bacon" they were trying out. It was really interesting, thin jerky-like beef, but tender with bacon flavoring. If they do decide to offer it, it could be a hit for them. Not picture - my husband got a banana pudding to take home. He thought it was one of the best he's had. The rest of us were too full to think about dessert, something we regretted later on. Yes, this place is a bit on the expensive side, but it was absolutely worth every penny. The meats and the sides were so high quality and delicious, homey food with a five-star treatment.

They have a great selection of sides (bbq beans, Mac and cheese, cobbler, coleslaw) and I try to pick something different each time. The green beans are a favorite. Usually, pulled pork is my go to BBQ meat, and it's good here. The brisket just outshines everything. They've recently started serving breakfast croissants (which look amazing) but we haven't tried those yet. They serve breakfast until 9am -- I'm retired, it's a 30 minute drive, and my coffee hasn't usually kicked in that early. Maybe one day I will set my alarm to make a point of trying breakfast. But meantime, you really can't go wrong here with the meats. Frankly, I'd probably be happy to just order up a pound of moist brisket and call it a day. They do bake their own bread. They serve cafeteria style and there's plenty of room inside and out for all your friends and family. Friendly atmosphere, clean, courteous staff. They've got it going on here.
