This place is ok and the staff is nice. Be aware the chopped beef sandwich is more like ground beef. Reminded me of a sloppy Joe or one of those "loose meat" burgers in Iowa. Never ever experienced that at a BBQ place. The sides were better than the meat. Coleslaw, potato salad and white beans with ham were quite tasty. Also they had some kind of wooden flag thing on the wall that reminded me of the insurrection flags popular with the January 6 people. Not everyone appreciates that message. The food is hit and miss depending on who is working and how busy they are. I've learned to always order the catfish. This is Texas, ID be embarrassed to sell this brisket. There was barely any smoke ring , tough to chew even our little dog had a hard time. Not to mention it was explicitly asked that the fat end the"point" be served instead what appeared to be the "fat cap" or middle was served. Brisket should fall apart right? Stopped by The BBQ Pit for a quick bite to eat on our way through town and liked what we got for the price. Walking up to the order window (there is inside seating also), we were struck by some of the great and not-so-great prices of the menu. Bacon cheese burger: $4. Most of the seafood plates: $9. We stayed on the low end of the spectrum with burgers and chopped beef sandwiches...I usually default to ribs at a new BBQ joint but the lure of the $4 bacon cheeseburger was too much to be denied. For that price, the burger was ok. But don't blame the bacon...it was fantastic. If it had been the $7-8 I'm used to paying around Houston, I would have been pretty disappointed in it. But, for $4, how can you complain? A great deal but I'll definitely try the ribs on our next trip. Service is pretty quick and friendly. We ordered our food, got it, then ordered more for the family we were about to see and we were gone in 10-15 minutes. Also, as opposed to the listing, they do accept credit cards. By far the worst BBQ I have ever had. When I received my two meat plate of sliced brisket and sausage it was drenched in BBQ sauce. That's the first sign it's not going to be good. Well I tried one bite and it was very chewy. It had the worst flavor, looked like it was cooked several days before and heated up in the microwave. Sausage tasted like it was store bought. They have a huge menu. Just stay away from the BBQ!! read more

My husband and I went into The Barbecue Pit in Warren, Texas last Saturday at 11 a.m. The restaurant's interior was very nice, and the menu had tons of options. We both decided to order breakfast, since it was early in the day, and we were the first and only customers in the building. It took a while for our breakfast to be fixed, but we don't mind waiting on food if it's being freshly prepared. The wait time wasn't a problem until we were served. It was one of the poorest excuses of a meal ever. The food was cold, like it had been sitting out for hours. The fried eggs were extremely thick, hard and rubbery. The biscuits were cold, hard and yet somehow did not look completely done. They tasted like cardboard. My husband's pancake was pitifully thin, almost white, and all torn up. The "potatoes" that were listed on the menu were like McDonald's hash browns (but weren't nearly as good). When I had asked what kind of potatoes they were, she said she didn't know, that it would "depend on what they had at the time." It sounds like they didn't want to tell me that it was a prepackaged hash-brown. The tea was sour. The ham "steak" as it was listed, were thin little pieces of what tasted like rubber, and even the bacon that looked to be freshly cooked tasted like cold grease. We have forced ourselves to eat less than tasty meals before, but we literally threw our plates in the trash within just a couple minutes and left. It was that disgusting. We had been looking forward to going back and trying their barbecue, but we're not willing to risk wasting our money again. The girl that took our order told us that the owner was adding to the menu all the time, but she needs to offer a better fare of what is already on the menu, and after we left we actually realized that there was no proof from either inside or outside the restaurant that barbecue was even being prepared (no smell of it, etc.) so I'm wondering if they are even an actual barbecue place. If their other food is anything like their breakfast, then it is truly a sad state of affairs. If they do offer better selections, then instead of adding more items to the menu, they should focus on learning to properly cook what they are already offering. I normally never post negative reviews, because there's usually some evidence of something at least halfway decent going on, but there was just no evidence of that food-wise in this instance. After now reading other reviews about this restaurant, we are so glad that we didn't try the barbecue, as multiple people said that it was not really BBQ and extremely disgusting, and made them sick. Visited last night for the first and the last time. I ordered the 3 meat plate with chicken, ribs and chopped beef. The chopped beef was akin to being processed in a food processor, the chicken was under cooked in the middle and the ribs were tough. I ordered French fries in lieu of the potato salad and I went with the baked beans. The beans were nothing less than pork n beans straight from a can. I ate a few bites of each meat selection, all of the fries and beans and brought the rest home for my dog. Within a few hours I have diarrhea and nausea. My wife and I stopped in on our way out of town to AR for our yearly vacation. We were craving BBQ and decided to give this place a try. I will try my best to be civil. However, not only was it extremely over priced, but the BBQ was terrible. I'm from Texas and thought that it was impossible to find terrible BBQ! With less taste. Sauce was bland and funky tasting. How in the heck do I manage something so bad and charge $8.00 for it??? This not my favourite restaurant but if you're looking for something good and country style I would say go to the Bar BQ Pit.

We were in the area visiting family. My husband asked if we'd like some BBQ...Well heck yes!!!! My husband ordered a burger, he said it was good. My daughter ordered a tender basket, it looked as if it was pre battered and frozen. The texture was more like a shell covering the tender instead of a regular crispy tender. I wish I had read the reviews before I ordered. I wanted the chopped beef potato for my nephew and my self. ATTENTION: Do not order this!!!! I have NEVER EVER tasted anything like this before. When my husband brought it to me I looked at it and said....This is chopped beef? It looked kinda like a wet dog food texture to me. My husband said well maybe that's the way they do it. Chopped beef is suppose to be meat that is chopped up. This was like a blinder beat up bunch of scraps. I figured maybe it would taste better than it looked. I'm not trying to be rude but this texture tasted literally like potted meat. I tried to eat a few bites eating mostly the runny juice they call BBQ sauce and potato with sour cream and cheese but it wasn't happening. After a few bites I had to go throw up. I am 37 years old and have NEVER got sick from eatting out until tonight! I not only got sick in bathroom but had to pull over 5 minutes down the road. I believe this restaurant is taking advantage of this little town by continuing to serve this mush. My wife and I eat at the Bar-B-Q Pit occasionally, and we've always come away full and satisfied. She prefers the catfish sandwich, and I like the oyster platter. No, the oysters aren't fresh, but they taste like it. The burgers are also good, and, yes, they have great onion rings. There's a service window for takeout or ample dining space inside. Cautions: they don't accept credit or debit cards, and they're closed on Tuesdays. The Bar-B-Q Pit used to be a filling station and garage so it looks a little rustic, but there's a pleasant ambiance and the service is always friendly. It's worth a stop if you're driving up or down Hwy 69. read more

I've been going to this place since 1977 with my grandparents for a pick up on the way to Woodville to their weekend house from GROVES, and we would stop here.... Best barbecue I've ever had for starters, we continued to stop here on the way there when I would visit them until I was about 15 when they retired and moved to central Texas. I missed the place so much! I recently paid a visit here back around this time in 2015 on the way back from my dads house in Fort Worth to here in Louisiana, end it is still good with reasonable prices!! We were taking the back roads from Crystal Beach on our way back to the Dallas area on Mother's Day and decided to stop at The Bar-B-Q Pit in Warren, Texas. I had Special #1 which was Stuffed Catfish covered with sauteed shrimp and crab cream sauce, dirty rice, sauteed squash and zucchini, coleslaw and garlic bread all for the LOW price of only $8.95. The amount of food served was enough for two people to eat and man-o-man was it DELISH! I can't remember having a better meal at a restaurant recently.
