Really good food. We got chicken fried steak and hamburgers. Will definitely be going back! Service was quick and friendly.

Very pleasant surprise for a restaurant connected to a gas station convenience store. Very clean, very friendly staff and a wide selection of food. Our friendly waitress Racheal helped us with our selection starting with the best fried onion rings. If you like onion rings these are a must! We got the chicken fried steak, the grilled pork chops and a cheeseburger. All were excellent but the chicken fried steak was just about the best we've ever had. Tender meat and just the perfect amount of crispy batter. On top of all the excellent food, the prices can not be beat! And they have Blue Bell ice cream and crispy waffle cones. We will definitely be back!!

A "short stack" of pancakes...they take up the full container AND come with your choice of meat. By the way, it's less than 4 bucks.

The hours have expanded I'm pleased to report and the food is just as good as it ever was. Some employees are not here anymore and they probably retired but the ladies working here work very hard to make sure the customers are always full. The circus posters on the walls, the period dresses the servers wear, and the table cloths and curtains add a note of nostalgia and send you back to a simpler time. Keep up the great work and I will keep coming. I drive 80 miles to get here and have been for 20 years. So I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Well the first round they bring out is a whole chicken (tasted just like Brookeshire's chicken) then they asked exactly how many pieces you want after that. Mind you we had a full table of people so we needed another plate but it felt as if we had a limit. The greens are from a can. The chicken and dumplings are made from leftover chicken the day or so before. Also you have to get your own drinks and clear your own table. It's a neat experience for travelers but as a local it's a one time deal.

We walked in and thought we had stepped back in time it was so quaint and full of good country cooking smells. It was Friday so they had a catfish lunch buffet going on and while that was extremely tempting we decided to look over their menu. The inside was amazing still had the areas for the Sunday school rooms that were now converted into storage areas plus it had onsite day care it was fantstic just something about small town Texas just makes you so dang happy to live in TX. The waitress and hostess oh my goodness was like talking with your grandmother, honey this, sweetheart that, and sugar you got to try some sweet ice tea...YES you do!! just pour it into my veins please it was so dang good with just the right amount of sugar. You could tell it was there and yes it did make you pucker but NO not into sugar coma. We decided on the patty melts with all the fix'ns but instead of rye bread good ole tx toast slathered in butter and side of some of the best freak'n onion rings I have ever had the pleasure NOT to put ketchup on. They were big, pretty sure vidalia onions probably dipped in buttermilk and dredged in some perfectly flavored flour then deep fried into these "golden circles" of delicious goodness. Then too end the meal we got some vanilla sheetcake with confetti icing. The cake was nice but the meal was perfect...so if your ever in the 50mile radius of Kinnard, TX I highly suggest making a stop.

I finally made it out to Blue Duck Kitchen & Bar and honestly, it exceeded every expectation I had…read more This isn't just another local restaurant -- it's the kind of place that makes you genuinely look forward to going out to eat. Right from the start, the atmosphere hit the perfect balance: lively and inviting but not overwhelming. Whether you're heading there for a casual dinner, drinks with friends, or a date night, it feels comfortable and relaxed without ever feeling generic. The décor and layout are thoughtful -- not flashy, but definitely memorable. The menu? Outstanding. Every dish I tried was clearly prepared with real skill, not just thrown together. The flavors were bold without being heavy, fresh without being confusing, and absolutely balanced. I started with an appetizer that was creative and flavorful, and each course that followed kept building on that good first impression. Portions were generous, too -- plenty of food without feeling like you're overstuffed. What really sold me was how every plate tasted intentional. You can tell the kitchen cares about the details -- the way flavors layered, the way textures played off each other, and even how each dish looked when it was served. That kind of consistency is rare, even at places that think they're fine dining. Service was equally impressive. Our server wasn't just friendly, they were attentive without hovering, knew the menu well, and offered recommendations that genuinely improved our meal. It's always nice when staff can talk about food like they actually enjoy it themselves -- it makes the whole experience feel a lot more personal. I left feeling completely satisfied -- not just because the food was great, but because the entire evening felt thoughtful from start to finish. If you want a place in Livingston that combines quality food, a great vibe, and service that actually elevates the experience, Blue Duck Kitchen & Bar is absolutely worth your time. Five stars well earned -- I'll definitely be returning.

The bar is always lively, creating an energetic atmosphere, while the servers move with impressive efficiency to provide attentive, friendly service--even during the busiest hours. The standout dish is undoubtedly the chicken-fried steak, which offers exceptional flavor, generous portions, and outstanding value. It's easily one of the best in town for both quality and price. The dining room is spacious and comfortable, though its popularity means it fills up quickly. On Friday evenings, a brief 5-10 minute wait is common, but the food, service, and inviting ambiance make it well worth your patience.

The restaurant is set in a building that, if I was guessing, was built about 100 years ago, based on its design. Be sure to check out the ceiling fans in the middle of the restaurant that are driven by two belts and a single motor! We ordered the Daily Special (pork loin w/ gravy, cornbread dressing, green beans, candied carrots, a yeast roll, and peach cobbler), one of the featured dishes of the day (2 Natchitoches meat pies, dirty rice, a cup of crawfish etouffee, 2 hush puppies, and peach cobbler), coconut shrimp with pina colada sauce and fries, and a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. Everything was amazing! The best peach cobbler I can remember, and the main dishes were all delicious. The service was excellent, and everyone was friendly. Apparently, the restaurant has three generations of family working there. By the time we left, they were beginning to get a crowd - we were no longer the only customers there. I'll definitely be going back!
