Steak Fries basket and Bulldog burger!
    Jessica G.

This place is such a gem! They know how to make good burgers for sure. We had the Bulldog burger and the Steak Fries basket... definitely bring your appetite because these meals will fill you up! I was so impressed with how much they put on the burger - the two Pattie's were juicy and the onion rings on top were amazing. The fries were hot and crispy and the steak fries were well battered! I loved perusing the photos of all the homecoming queens and town history on the inside. They also have some outdoor space to eat. We didn't have room for dessert but it sounded like they made a variety of cakes and pies! Just remember to bring cash because they don't take credit cards. Would recommend this place for those of you wanting a hearty meal!!

Went hiking and exploring Angelina Forest then decided to stop and this little place in the way home. They don't accept credit cards so a quick t trip to the gas station atm solved that We were starving by the time we got there so we ordered way too much. A bulldog burger (see menu pic for everything it has on it. Also includes bacon), a bully burger (same as bulldog but with one patty), fried and onion rings, a chocolate malt and slice of pecan pie. And 2 diet Dr peppers. Guys watch those calories. Lol Total was $36 Best dang burger. I was in heaven. No way I could finish that monster. Highly recommend this little gem. They chose at 7pm so don't wait too late.

    Texas Burger and fries

Awesome burgers! I like to go on random road trips, looking for new places like diners and dives, and ones that serve burgers most of all. I found this place on the map, and decided to give it a try! I'm glad I did! This is the Texas Burger (I got it without jalapeños) It's a thick burger with BACON! Everything's better with bacon. It was cooked just right. Cooked till the pink was gone, but still nice and juicy! Paired with a Coke and yummy fries. My husband got onion rings, which I tried. Very crispy and tasty. I wish I'd had room for pie, but alas I was too stuffed! I'll be back firsure, next time I'm in this neck o' the woods! Bring cash as they don't take plastic!

Outstanding gem in a small town. Worth the drive or detour to go here. Great prices and ample food

In terms of burger spots, you can't miss with this one. It's nothing fancy, for sure, but it's soaked with culture and history, and most importantly their burgers are nothing short of amazing. Go for the Bulldog Burger. It's a massive double patty bacon beauty of a burger, bring your appetite to the table. Make sure you get some onion rings, since those are tasty, too.

The hours have expanded I'm pleased to report and the food is just as good as it ever was. Some employees are not here anymore and they probably retired but the ladies working here work very hard to make sure the customers are always full. The circus posters on the walls, the period dresses the servers wear, and the table cloths and curtains add a note of nostalgia and send you back to a simpler time. Keep up the great work and I will keep coming. I drive 80 miles to get here and have been for 20 years. So I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Well the first round they bring out is a whole chicken (tasted just like Brookeshire's chicken) then they asked exactly how many pieces you want after that. Mind you we had a full table of people so we needed another plate but it felt as if we had a limit. The greens are from a can. The chicken and dumplings are made from leftover chicken the day or so before. Also you have to get your own drinks and clear your own table. It's a neat experience for travelers but as a local it's a one time deal.

Right from the start, the atmosphere hit the perfect balance: lively and inviting but not overwhelming. Whether you're heading there for a casual dinner, drinks with friends, or a date night, it feels comfortable and relaxed without ever feeling generic. The décor and layout are thoughtful -- not flashy, but definitely memorable. The menu? Outstanding. Every dish I tried was clearly prepared with real skill, not just thrown together. The flavors were bold without being heavy, fresh without being confusing, and absolutely balanced. I started with an appetizer that was creative and flavorful, and each course that followed kept building on that good first impression. Portions were generous, too -- plenty of food without feeling like you're overstuffed. What really sold me was how every plate tasted intentional. You can tell the kitchen cares about the details -- the way flavors layered, the way textures played off each other, and even how each dish looked when it was served. That kind of consistency is rare, even at places that think they're fine dining. Service was equally impressive. Our server wasn't just friendly, they were attentive without hovering, knew the menu well, and offered recommendations that genuinely improved our meal. It's always nice when staff can talk about food like they actually enjoy it themselves -- it makes the whole experience feel a lot more personal. I left feeling completely satisfied -- not just because the food was great, but because the entire evening felt thoughtful from start to finish. If you want a place in Livingston that combines quality food, a great vibe, and service that actually elevates the experience, Blue Duck Kitchen & Bar is absolutely worth your time. Five stars well earned -- I'll definitely be returning.

The bar is always lively, creating an energetic atmosphere, while the servers move with impressive efficiency to provide attentive, friendly service--even during the busiest hours. The standout dish is undoubtedly the chicken-fried steak, which offers exceptional flavor, generous portions, and outstanding value. It's easily one of the best in town for both quality and price. The dining room is spacious and comfortable, though its popularity means it fills up quickly. On Friday evenings, a brief 5-10 minute wait is common, but the food, service, and inviting ambiance make it well worth your patience.

Makes you feel like you're in a Texas country town for sure! My daughter and I were in Nacogdoches for college visit to SFA and we looked this place up in the hopes that we would find something different than a normal chain stop. It certainly is different and was exactly what you might imagine. Everything on the menu is decently priced and it seems that Tuesday is the place to be with short stack specials for $2 along with the weekday breakfast special at $6.95 On of my daughter's favorite meals is chicken fried steak and what better place to try that than a local diner??? Unfortunately it fell below expectations. The portions were quite large, enough that we could have just split a plate. The idea of sausage gravy on top of the mashed potatos and steak sounds heavy but also potentially fantastic. However both the gravy and the fry were quite under seasoned. I was able to fix mine with some cholula sauce and some salt and pepper was a quick fix as well for my daughter. The side of green beans and carrots she got were actually pretty good so perhaps there was just a disconnect in flavor at the meat station this day. I did very much enjoy the side salad I chose instead of the veggie medley. Came with home-made ranch which brought me back to my East Texas family gatherings with the freshly shaken ranch.....it was great. The portion size was pretty fair value at $13. Like I said we could have just split it between us. Very hit or miss flavors leaves this at a 3-stars for me. But no doubt some of the nicest folks in town work here.
