I've eaten at Charley's a half dozen times, for lunch and dinner, and I'm very glad that it's a local option. While the vibe isn't bistro, the function is: a casual neighborhood place that offers a relaxed experience and comforting food. Another reviewer, @Joyce S., suggested they add a menu item that "people will talk about as a 'you gotta try it' item." For me that item is the baked walleye on Friday nights. I've eaten walleye in Minnesota for 30 years (it's the State Fish, so of course we consume lots of it), and can say that Charley's serves it fresh and perfectly prepared. Come ready for what Charley's is: a very casual restaurant/bar in a very distinctive setting. The view of golf course greens, towering palms, and ponds is truly lovely, if a bit Arizona Midwestern. I think the most jarring part of the experience is coming from the somewhat grand clubhouse entrance into a pretty retro, definitely non-tablecloth, dining room. The menu is typical bar & grill, but the specials elevate it. The outdoor patios offer a much better experience--as long as no one is smoking nearby--than the dining room or bar, both of which can be loud when there's live music or games. As for service, I have always found it good and unpretentious. Peoria is not long on great dining options. I'm so glad Charley's is among them! read more

Pleasant scenery of the golf course and its water features--note I'm not saying "lakes" (their term) lest you be disappointed since these are definitely more like ponds, but still nice to look out on and see the fountain and running water. I was lucky enough to even see a large white bird that may have been a heron which was fun to watch! Seating on patio is great, but the day we went it was filled with reserved tables for golfers or club members so we had to sit inside which still had a nice view, but there was a strong disinfectant smell coming in from the lobby which was not appealing and lost the atmosphere its 5th star, as did the too loud sound system once the band started up. There should also be more pauses between sets so people can carry on some conversation during those times, and/or some softer pieces. I love Dan Reed's band, but I also come to dine and chat, so some softer, background music and lowered volume would be appreciated. Our server named Ash was very efficient and informative, letting us know about the extra fish piece available for an additional $2.99, and the Happy Hour discount on the draft beer which is always appreciated. The fries were very crisp and we didn't leave any, but the Steakhouse Chili at $8.99 wasn't worth the price, although tasty. The fish was excellent, but since other local spots are offering AYCE for their fish fry nights, it's a shame they don't have that as an option, and I'd caution them to watch their prices or offer smaller portions for seniors since they are right on the brink of what I know my neighbors are willing to pay for a burger especially when drinks and tips are added in. Also, why not bring in some interesting desserts or become known for something special that's yours alone? It would be great to be known as the go-to place for a piece of your signature cake, something distinctive and something people will talk about as a "you gotta try it" item. read more

THANK YOU Kelli for a magical Rehearsal Dinner party! I am so grateful to the staff, especially manager Mikale and the chef for helping me put on a fabulous dinner for 38. I came in before the rehearsal to drop off the cake and set up table flowers but was short on time. Michale offered to take care of it all. She did not disappoint! The tables were beautiful! Kelli and the chef helped me craft the perfect menu. Appetizers and entrees were AMAZING and plated with elegance. The steak garnered high praise, and the shrimp scampi, salmon and chicken picatta were fabulous. THE SERVICE WAS ON POINT! There were no complaints from guests. The staff worked together flawlessly. My wife and I were married at Charley's at The Lakes. We could not have asked for a more perfect evening. Owners Kelli and Sal worked with us to ensure everything we wanted was provided at an extremely reasonable cost. They helped put us in touch with one of the bands that plays there, a baker for our wedding cake, and a decorator. On the wedding evening, all the staff were professional and attentive to our guests. The buffet was wonderful and plentiful. We received many compliments from our guests and everything went off without a hitch. The restaurant had plenty of seating for our party of 80. Seems like this place is a hit and miss. Sometimes the food is GREAT and other times it sucks! Don't try to eat in the main dining room on Monday or Tuesday nights, they have games going on and you have to have a reservation. Taco Tuesdays consists of two street tacos, either chicken (bland) or Hamburger (greasy) and you can't order one of each per the waitress. Cost is $5. Draft beer is 5.99 on Happy Hour. Order of tater tots is over $5. Check out the menu online before going and see the high prices for yourself. Seems like it has gone downhill in the past year. Our first experience was very good, but the last few times we've been in has been less than desirable, with walking out the last time , when we were ignored for about 15 minutes after taking a seat, on a not so busy evening. Food is ok, service is terrible. Definitely favorable to golfers who smoke on patio and as door opens smoke comes into main dining area. Ask to sit in front room much brighter and nicer in my opinion but then you r taking a chance the waitress will ever check in with you after she drops food off! Made reservation for a party of 12 on a Wednesday at 12:30. No one else in the place (except patio) tables weren't put together snd table wasn't set up. Silverware only arrived after food delivery and we had to ask for it. Most in party agreed not a place on our list for monthly lunch even though we live in WB and would live to support them we are headed back to the Links Grill at the Vistas where you know what to expect. And have attentive waitress who doesn't just hang out talking to golfers on patio. Oh and don't forget if you charge your meal you must pay a sur charge. read more

Stumbled upon this place with my wife one afternoon last week. We live in Sun City and wanted to venture out a bit. We had a great experience! The setting is stunning on the patio and the sunset was beautiful. Our bartender Bea was amazing. She was so personable and extremely knowledgeable. It was very refreshing to see on this side of town. We have not tried the food yet but it was highly recommended to try the fish and chips. We will be back. read more

The kitchen is clean according to the TV ratings in fact they are on the Dean's list. The Monday night special is awesome. They have great hamburgers french fries with a beer for 10 bucks. That's why we go and then we play family feud. The only thing that I can say about this place is the service is really poor. Last week, the lady sitting next to me never got to place her order for her dinner while the rest of us were eating. We go every Monday night have been going for months and once they take the order, the food does come out fast. Every week I order water with my beer and I'm lucky if I ever get the water so now I take my own. I ask for limes in my beer and maybe that's happened. One out of 10 times. I just don't understand when it's so crowded on Monday nights in order to play the game that they don't bring in more help. The dishwasher was helping out and she was so kind and she goes. I'm sorry I'm not a waitress. I'm just delivering the food, I am the dishwasher, but she ran and got things that were missing from our order. Natalie is awesome but she has her hands full! read more

So glad to see this newly opened restaurant in a lovely setting. We'd enjoyed the previous one for years, but heard the new chef was better. He or she was! It's great to be able to sit out on the patio and look at the golf course and lake for lunch. Our waitress was busy but very friendly, and it turns out she was one of the owners. We told her how much we enjoyed the food, and promised to give them a good review. We loved our fish tacos and club sandwich. Can't wait to try the prime rib dinner on the weekend. My wife and I really always enjoy the friendly service and food that never seems to disappoint. We have had a few of the waitresses Mikele, Felici, Marissa and Taylor and have all been very accommodating and very friendly. Burgers, fish and chips are great and they also serve up a great breakfast that is bomb! Omelettes are great! I believe we have been to this place about 9 or 10 times and have had a great experience every time. So I have gone to Charlies a few times. I decided I would bring family and friends tonight. We arrived at 5:15. Our drink order was not taken until 6:15. Food did not come out until 7:15. Our server, who I have had in the past, stated she was the only server working tonight. When it was 2 hrs and we still sitting outside getting cold and no longer hungry, I asked if I could speak to the manager. When a manager /owner(female) came out , she stated it took a long time as they did not have enough help with servers or in the kitchen due to fact that the customers were rude to the help and so the help quit. ???? We had not been rude, we simply were stating it took over an hour to get our drinks ordered and another hour to get the food. The manager/owner continued to stand there wanting to argue repeating it was the customers fault. We asked her to please bring the bill so we could leave. We gave our credit cards and while waiting for the receipts, another manager/owner (male) came out and told us we didn't need to come back. Seriously? Of course we won't be back. To have terrible service , then add to that ,be blamed the service was bad due to rude customers? We were 6 people all over the age of 65, hardly the fighting kind. A respectable owner/manager would have, should have , simply said, " I am so sorry we were short handed tonight. We should have told you the wait could be long. Please let us make this up to you the next time you come. Let me offer you a nice desert. Not here. It was , the customers are awful and please don't return... Truly one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had in my 66 years! Thankfully Links Neighborhood Grill is down around the corner from them and their service is impeccable and their food is great. . P. S. We never got to the food! We waited long enough and I told the server to forget it! Others were being served first even after we ordered before them! Tried to order before all the golfers piled in before noon! No sense of urgency from the server and whoever the chef is in the kitchen! We were seated on the patio! We have no desire to go back! There has never been a decent restaurant at the beautiful location! It's a pretty cheesy place pardon the pun! This neighborhood tolerates it because of the senior community! I recently had my group there for a holiday luncheon. There were 25 of us, Mikele had the outside ramada set up beautifully for us. Amanda was our server, and she was great also.
