Steffan was insanely kind. I came up as a private chef to cater in petoskey and didn't want to drive all the way back home late at night...so I booked my very FIRST bed and breakfast experience ever. I got out late from my catering and was worried to text him around 11:30 am to tell him my phone died and that I was exhausted and probably without an alarm I'd sleep long past checkout so to knock on my door at 9:30 and Luckily I woke up naturally around 9 and came downstairs for breakfast. He said "good morning Michelle but you ruined my plan!!" He had a whole tray full of breakfast and juice to bring to my room for breakfast in bed. How incredibly kind is that! Steffan is a friendly and accommodating inn keeper. Enjoyed our say for 2 nights in the Fishing Suite. Nice bathroom amenities, free water and a few other beverages throughout the day. Super cute B&B very close to downtown Charlevoix and the beach. We stayed one night in the premium single room. The room was very spacious and had a comfortable king bed. There was an en-suite bathroom with a shower and claw foot tub. The B&B provided some bubble bath, but I'd recommend bringing a bath bomb. Everything was clean and checkin/checkout were easy with the friendly hostess Amber. read more

The Charlevoix House provided the perfect location where I could walk to town and catch the ferry to Beaver Island. I stayed on the 3rd floor in the Up North room. I felt safe traveling alone here and very much enjoyed the claw foot tub. Breakfast was nice too. But the best part of my stay was the host, Amber. She made me feel like family. My wife and I had an outstanding mid week stay last week here. Amber was simply the most down to earth, gracious and helpful host. She went out of her way to make sure our stay was comfortable and fun. Very clean and the location could not be more perfect from downtown. We are looking forward to staying here again soon, possibly for a color run later this year. Small outdoor area with a fire pit we would have loved to take advantage of but it was a little warm for a fire when we stayed. Perfect size kitchen area, great gathering spaces inside and out. We really lucked out both with Amber's hospitality and the room/area. One of the best trips my wife and I have taken in recent memory. read more

The lady (I'm assuming manager) greeted us without a mask on during the COVID-19 time frame. She also continued to finish cleaning our room without a mask on. This should be taken seriously. We had to disinfect our room. Towels felt like sandpaper. The breakfast was a joke. We paid $270 for one night and was completely disappointed. Will not return. read more

Unfortunately, the overall experience at Charlevoix House was disappointing. Poor communication delayed our check-in, the innkeeper wore no mask, and used linens greeted us in the stairwell as we finally made our way to the room after 6 p.m. Although the Golf Room was spacious and the bed was comfortable, the placement of the air conditioner only a few feet from my head while in bed made it very uncomfortable while the unit was on. The alternative was to be hot. The unit should be moved to the other window. The serve-yourself "continental breakfast" was non-existent on the first morning of our stay because "groceries weren't delivered," and no apology or refund was offered. On the second morning, it consisted of packaged cereal, granola bars, pop tarts, and bananas. The tiny kitchen eating area was not conducive to social distancing. It would have been much more gracious to be able to sit at a table for two in the living room or on the porch. Based on my 35 years of staying in many, many similarly-priced B&Bs all over the United States, I felt that the whole experience was overpriced. My husband and I found this adorable inn for our anniversary. We were so pleasantly surprised! We were greeted so warmly by the hostess Terri when we arrived. Her casual yet friendly nature made us feel right at home! Our room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed and well stocked private bath! Although the home is shared, we never heard anything from any of the other guests - our room was so quiet! Breakfast was wonderful; home made and delicious! The beach is a 2 minute walk (although the path is currently closed, but we had no problem getting down). We walked into Charlevoix with ease, which was great. We will definitely be back!! read more

The Charlevoix house is truly a breathtaking place. My little sister and I found our selves in Charlevoix late one evening due to our grandmas serious health conditions and needed to find a place to stay on extremely short notice and the lovely host opened this special place to us. We were welcomed with hot coco (it was during the winter) and friendly face, each room in this house has a different creative theme that truly embodies the lovely Charlevoix area. It is the perfect place for a vacation or even staycation, I won't ever be staying in any of those boring hotels after this. This place made us feel at home and loved! read more

We were driving around Lake Michigan for a week long vacation from Chicago. After spending the day on Mackinaw, we were looking to stay some place more quant like Petoskey, Harbor Springs or Charlevoix. Booking super last minute, we showed up at Charlevoix House at 6pm and asked if they had any availability. Amber greeted us and said she could have a room ready for us in less than 30 minutes. She was incredibly hospitable and was the highlight of our trip. She recommended a few restaurants in town (less than a 10 minute walk) - we chose to eat at the Cantina, which was absolutely delicious! Amber went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. She truly cares about the experience of her guests and is happy to do whatever to make sure you have a good stay. We cannot wait to return! read more

Put up in an attic on 3rd floor, only narrow steps to try to navigate suitcases without falling Bed was very uncomfortable and shower is a stretch to be called that. Never being to Michigan, this trip was definitely one I was looking forward to. We booked a weekend at the Charlevoix House and in The Fishing Suite, my girlfriend and I along with a couple of friends of ours, were met with such warm and welcoming hospitality from Amber. After showing us to our rooms, Amber walked us to the kitchen where we ate and conversed suggested visiting points along with a few spots to eat and slam down a beer. We without a doubt took a couple into consideration and The Mushroom Houses, Pearl's New Orleans Kitchen and Bierce De Mac Brew Works did not let us down! Amber made this trip even more eventful and accommodating, because of so we will return very soon. If you come out near Charlevoix make sure to book a suite at Charlevoix House before someone else does. read more

Check the refund policy before you book. I had a Lake Michigan tour planned when my mom went into the hospital. I was able to give each hotel a 2 week notice, all of them gave me a full refund except Charlevoix House. I checked and noted that they rebooked the room, so I explained the situation to them and asked for at least some of the money back. They kept it all. People who accept money having done nothing to earn it are not good people. read more

It's a beautiful Victorian house & is kept up quite well. The manager was very friendly but by no means has etiquette in Bed & Breakfast hospitality. She told us that she would have coffee ready for us in the morning. My husband went down to get us some & he had to make it himself. She was still in bed. She was late getting our breakfast for the time we requested. She then served our breakfast in her NIGHTGOWN & SLIPPERS. I was appalled. We were served 1 fried egg, anemic looking hash browns & biscuits & gravy on a plain white plate. No colorful garnish to make it look appetizing or appealing. She placed us at the end of the table closest to the kitchen where all the dirty pots & pans & mess could be seen by us, rather than putting us on the other end. We had to ask for juice & water with our breakfast. As an afterthought she said she had some strawberries & then proceeded into the kitchen where I could watch her cutting them up. Clearly Amber has had no training in B&B etiquette. We stay in many B&B's but this one by far was the worst for the way our breakfast was served. Again, the place was very neat, clean & beautiful but the breakfast was served very unprofessionally & it looked like something a child threw together. Very disappointing. read more
