Highland Hideaway Bed & Breakfast - The Bear Den Bathroom

Highland Hideaway Bed & Breakfast

We just had the most amazing weekend here. Lance is the MAN!!!! He took care of our every want and…read moreneed. We will never go anywhere else now. The sauna and hot tub were wonderful. We wanted to do the Unlimited wine tasting but there was just too much to do. Oh and the breakfast... my LAWD it was amazing. I'm not sure how Lance was able to do it, but everything I ate was the best I've ever had. I'm not just blowing smoke it was that great. Bonus points for the driveway feeling like a hill climb.

First, the room: The Bear Den was a cozy, clean, and comforting piece of up north. The room is decorated with tasteful log and bear decor and the bathroom has a beautiful stone shower. This room is offset from the main bed and breakfast house, so you have to walk outside to get to it and have privacy from the rest of the bed and breakfast. There is a spot to park your car right next to your room and you are located right behind the wine tasting room. The outdoor hot tub (yes, you read that right!!) is right outside the Bear Den door. We visited during the fall, so this was a great time to enjoy the hot tub overlooking the fall colors! Second, a bit on the service: it was excellent! When you arrive, you are met by the couple who manages the B&B. They are very friendly and accommodating! They offer made-to-order breakfast each morning. You fill out a paper the night before with your order (lots of options!) and what time you would like it ready. Then you simply arrive to the main house dining area at that time, and your food is promptly brought out to you! They have coffee and juices and water at your disposal. And just off the dining area is a large wrap-around deck, which would be perfect for summer weather! Also within the main B&B area are various other rooms, a library at your disposal, and an indoor hot tub, sauna, and exercise equipment (bike and free weights). To add an extra perk onto this already fantastic stay, the B&B is also home to a vineyard, so included in our stay was a complimentary wine tasting of the wines made from that vineyard. This was an absolutely amazing stay made great by the room, the accommodations, the location, the crisp fall air, and the wonderful service! Definitely would go back and recommend to anyone!!!

I also liked that each room came with a fridge, a BBQ set (there is a communal grill on property), and some board games. There was also a communal hot tub but we didn't make use of that given how hot it was. We also liked the outdoor deck we had right outside our room, where we could relax and eat breakfast (but note it is shared with the neighbor next to you). I do wish that the breakfast had some sort of eggs rather than all carbs (we had a lot of sweets and carbs for ours), better coffee, and that the coffee was available earlier in the morning. (Breakfast and coffee came at 9am but there was no communal coffee earlier than 9am. I did like that later in the day they leave out coffee and madeleines cookies). We also found the room very crammed. You couldn't open the door without hitting the table chairs and there really wasn't much space in the room for anything besides the bed and table (not much walking or lounge space in between, so we felt a little claustrophobic). Although some toiletries were available (travel size lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and mouth wash), there was no shower gel and the travel size lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were all old and half empty, suggesting they were there from prior guests. The cleaners also didn't clean out the coffee maker. For price, it was $1048 for two nights in one small room. Over all, the B&B was very cute and the owners very friendly but ultimately we probably wouldn't return given the above. And if we did, we would see if bigger suites/rooms with more space was available.

You could feel the thoughtfulness they put into the room. Every day my wife and I were treated to a wonderful breakfast. Once you figure out your surroundings, you realize you are at the center of just about everything. The longest travel time was to shorts brewing in Bellaire. And that was about 20 minutes away. Friske farms was close too. It was an unforgettable anniversary trip. I wish I could go back tomorrow. Thank you Deb and Mike.
