Mushroom House!
Jim B.

Had a very nice time with our group of six friends on a tour of early 20th century architect Earl Young along the coast of Lake Michigan in Charlevoix Michigan. Edith was our tour guide and had a fun and informative personality for this type of work. Very reasonable cost and tour took a bit more than an hour or so. We toured the road along these houses. They are privately owned but we stopped close enough to talk about each place ans get some nice pictures. Step back in time when a man with a dream and drive could accomplish great things with his hands and imagination of a magical village.

A very good tour that was better than expected! Learned a lot about Charlevoix and the architect behind building these unique structures.

When visiting within 50 miles of the Soo, get yourself to the Twilight Walking Tours. Do not pass…read morethe city, do not collect dinner or luggage. All you need is your camera and, at the height of summer, pre-purchased tickets if you don't show up early. The Coulings run a brilliant walking tour of the historic downtown core of Sault Ste. Marie on the US side. Unlike the typical historical or architectural tour, they blend spooky ghost stories with folk songs and brilliant anecdotes that only a couple deeply passionate about the Upper Peninsula could conjure. They are excellent storytellers with rich personal histories and backgrounds -- like serving on tall ships -- which brings their tales and yarns alive. Groups twist through the backways and side roads of the city, stopping at restaurants and bookstores while learning about the speakeasies, smugglers, and seedier underbelly of the city. Much attention is placed around the Prohibition and Depression, although ghost stories stretch back as long as settlers fought their way down St. Mary's River. Stop at one of the many restaurants on the way back or snag a few souvenirs in the shops you pass when the tour is done. On a beautiful, starry night, there's little which compares to the city's regal, lovely appearance as embellished by a pair of incredibly gifted storytellers. The walking tour is suitable for older children and the elderly, though it covers a fair amount of ground in the city center. The stories are not heartstoppingly spooktacular, though certain alleyways and basements will leave descriptive images implanted in your memory for weeks to come.

We signed up for a Twilight Walking Tour led by the Coulings and were blown away by the amount of details that was put into the tales. They did an excellent job making the stories come alive and made it very entertaining. We recommend this tour group to anyone!

This was a Michigan Bucket List adventure for us! We both love breweries and going on adventures. If I set my mind to something, trust me, I will make it happen. Last year, I found out about Beaver Island and a little brewery located on it. Of course, I had to get there! lol I shared my findings with Partner In Crime and guess what....we chartered a flight to the island with Fresh Air! Wow!!! What an amazing experience! This company was so helpful and provided us with useful information about the island. The entire experience was top notch, the pilot was very experienced, and the flight over...stunningly beautiful. Thank you Fresh Air for making our dream a reality!

From the moment I called the great folks at this lovely airline it was the start of a chain reaction of amazing experiences. I'll be looking for excuses to fly with them again, if only all air travel were this great The owners and staff at each step from my confusion about anything Beaver Island (first visit) to scheduling, fares, parking arrangements, type of plane, weights, return travel (I wanted to take the ferry back as a part of my experience and they were so helpful in guiding me through things, genuinely great people) and even gave me many amazing suggestions and recommendations that were spot on. The entire team was friendly accommodating, had a sense of humor, and professional. The views were spectacular, the other passengers (they have great clients too, also locals, residents and regulars Likes attract Likes, right), and the pilot, despite how crazy busy they were, was enjoying himself and the gorgeous day, I can't say I blame him thanks to the folks here I have fallen in love with these little planes (they proved to me there was nothing to be nervous about, talk about a 360) and will find another excuse to take this airline around their service area. I also found out that I'm more impatient than I thought and the almost 3 hours boat ride back versus the views and thrill of the brief plane ride can't compare. They gave me 3 more hours to explore than I would've had otherwise to experience the island. I don't think I'll ever take the ferry again, I'm sold on this place and the all around experience and customer service you get.

From the first contact with Sue to arrange our tour to a perfect paddle with Tim on Lake Huron…read moreseeing the absolute best of Les Cheneaux Islands, to Tim's recommendation for a post-paddle hike, we had the perfect U.P. day! We were looking for an adventure with our new-ish kayaks. We fortuitously read a Michigan tourism magazine tucked into the Chicago Tribune; the magazine featured a story about kayaking in Les Cheneaux with Woods & Waters. It sounded great! Though we are comfortable on the water, we thought it would be good to have a guide in an area new to us -- and Tim was a perfect guide for our half-day paddle! We learned so much about this beautiful and interesting area, saw an eagle and its nest, did a quick mid-paddle hike to get an amazing view to go with our rock skipping and gained a few kayaking skill tips that will make us better kayakers. It certainly was a bonus that the water and weather cooperated -- water like glass and just enough sun. Tim - thanks for the advice to do the Narnia hike - that was our afternoon adventure! We ended our day at Les Cheneaux Distillers. The day couldn't have been better. We loved our paddle so much and felt comfortable with our newfound knowledge from Tim that we went back for a quick paddle the next morning. We wish we could have stayed on the water all day! Thank you Sue and Tim. We will see you next time!

The Pointer Boat, has quite a history that matches the community in which it is set: Harbor Point…read moreand Harbor Springs. The boat was originally commissioned to carry supplies, teachers, musicians and more from the main part of Harbor Springs out to the residence of Harbor point which it did until the mid 60s. The residents of Harbor Point couldn't do this themselves because it's an exclusive community. You get the gist -money and privilege. The boat ride was a little over an hour long and took us up and down the coast line with a great narration at least the parts we heard. There were 12 people on the boat which is the capacity plus the captain and first mate. Captain and first mate are great individuals but neither one of them could clearly articulate what they were trying to share on top of the wind and engine noise. At the end of the trip, we suggested they use a microphone. They said oh yeah that's a great idea we will have to consider that. Now really this boat has been in service doing this over decades and no one else has mentioned this?! I would venture to guess they are not allowed by the residents. The boat is docked behind Stafford's pier restaurant. When the restaurant is open, a drink can be purchased from their bar to enjoy while on the boat tour. Unfortunately for us, the restaurant was not open due to the lack of people to staff it. So sad! I would not say this is in any way a luxury tour. You are sitting on hardwood benches. And you need to be somewhat agile as you are stepping down four stairs that are steep from the dock to the bottom of the boat. The boat tour Is intended to provide an overview of the city and its history. I would have given it four stars if we had been able to hear the narration.
