Heather, the owner of Skye house, went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything we needed for our wedding party of 22 people. Skye House was beautifully appointed with 6 bedrooms for our guests, a huge kitchen and living room space. The bedrooms were large and airy and all three bathrooms were all recently remodeled. Every bedroom had a closet or wardrobe for our clothing. Heather anticipated our every need, from chairs and tables to making sure I had the perfect blue-purple hydrangeas to add to my wedding bouquets that were just the right shade to getting me a curling iron last minute (which I forgot) so I could curl my hair before the ceremony. There were two nice fire pits, beautiful grounds courtesy of the grounds crew, and we were just a short walk from the beach at the end of the lane. The backyard was perfect for our ceremony and disco-dance party. We had our wedding photos taken with views of the bay and also in front of a stately, mature tree in the backyard. The front yard was exquisite with a native flower and rain garden, perfect for our wedding speeches, toasts and dinner. Heather is such a gracious and kind host. What an epic weekend Heather!! There are many rental properties in the area run by kind, respectful, and honest business owners. Skye House is not one of those businesses. They messed up our reservation by agreeing to 2 nights, when they have a 4 night minimum. Note, at the time of our booking this was not listed anywhere on the VRBO page and was not alerted at check out. Skye House accepted the reservation and charged our card. Then, they asked us to cancel so they could make more money. I understand it's the goal of a business to maximize profits. However, a reoccurring mistake on their part does not constitute a cancellation on mine. I'm so disappointed in the way this situation was handled, the lack of courtesy and respect shown to me and my party by the owners, and the fact that we now have to cancel our event in Northport. There are nicer options in the area (on multiple levels...), take your business there.

The Charlevoix Lighthouse is within walking distance of downtown Charlevoix and the Mushroom…read moreHouses! We were staying at one of the Mushroom Houses, so we were able to stop by and visit the lighthouse area tons of times. It's adjacent to this wonderfully expansive beach and park area as well with playground items and just tons of shoreline to lay out and go rock hunting on! Plenty of space for all the activities! The lighthouse itself is out on the pier and is very stunningly painted fire engine RED! The pier is this rich blue as well, so the contrast is stunning and always makes for great photographs. There will be the occasional fisherperson parked on the pier just past the lighthouse too, but for the most part every time I've come out here it has been pretty empty and I just get the best photos! It's not the biggest nor most iconic lighthouse Michigan has to offer, but I love her a ton!

I try to find one everywhere we go and our great lakes state has plenty of them along the shorelines. I like to get pictures of the lighthouses. I want to make a wall collage of all the ones I've visited around the state from the tip of Copper Harbor off the shore of Lake Superior, all along the east shore of Lake Huron from Mackinaw down to Port Huron and the west shore of Lake Michigan from New Buffalo all the way up to Charlevoix. The Charlevoix Lighthouse is super cute, I love the red! It's not a huge Lighthouse, yet unique in its own way. We enjoyed hanging out at the pier, breathing in the fresh air, and watching a beautiful sunset on the horizon.

I recently stayed at this campground and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience -- not…read moreonly with the conditions of the site, but with the rude and condescending response I received when I reached out about a legitimate health concern. During our trip up north, this was the only place where my asthma was triggered. We spent four days in other areas affected by the Canadian wildfires without any issues whatsoever. The morning after arriving here, my asthma became severely aggravated, and we were forced to leave early. The stagnant pond next to our campsite was covered in scum, clearly releasing mold and spores into the air. This was the only environmental change during our trip, and the only place where my breathing became compromised -- making it obvious that the pond conditions, not wildfire smoke, caused the reaction. When I emailed to cancel the remainder of our reservation and requested a refund, I would have fully understood if the campground simply reiterated their no‑refund policy. However, the response I received was unnecessarily dismissive and patronizing. I was told, in a condescending tone, that "algae is not associated with asthma," followed by an incorrect assumption that wildfire smoke was the cause -- despite the fact that we had been in wildfire‑affected areas for days with zero symptoms. A polite explanation of policy would have been acceptable. The attitude was not. The man taking reservations was rude from the first phone conversation and I was reluctant to make a reservation, but was unable to find a campsite in the area that had a GUARANTEED SITE, not first come first serve. Customer service matters, especially when guests are dealing with health issues. Instead of listening, acknowledging the concern, or even responding neutrally, the staff chose to be dismissive and incorrect about the situation. That alone ensures we will not be returning. This is the EMAIL- so no speculation on my interpretation of the response from the resort. Please cancel our reservation for today, Saturday July 18th. The pond scum severely bothered my asthma, and we were forced to leave early this morning. Please add payment charge back to my credit card.
