The cleaning girl's child will torment you. If he's not trying to get in your room, he's standing on the chairs screeching like a vulture. The morning we checked out he was standing in a puddle of water kicking it at guests as they walked by. When asked to please stop doing it, he put on a grin and kicked water at me even harder. WHY ARE YOU BRINGING YOUR CHILD TO WORK? Nightly bonfires were a special treat, but forget discussion, the owner was glued to his phone. We hope this place gets back to what the reviews said it was years passed. But with our stay, I wouldn't recommend it and would look for another place.

The check-in experience on Thursday, September 17, 2026, was extremely disappointing. The front-desk employee was unfriendly and seemed unwilling to answer basic questions about the hotel or guest accommodations. On two occasions between approximately 5:00 and 7:30 PM, I tried asking questions about the hotel and was essentially told that everything was on the sheet in our room. I also had an unpleasant interaction when purchasing fudge at the front desk and paying cash. When I asked for a receipt, I was told rather abruptly that there was no receipt available. The internet and streaming service were atrocious. The connection was unreliable and made streaming nearly impossible. For a hotel at this price point, I would expect dependable Wi-Fi. The air conditioning was another concern. From roughly 5:00 to 7:00 PM each day, it barely kept the room comfortable. I would be concerned about how it performs during the hotter months of July and August. The frustrating part is that most of our experience was good. The room, location, breakfast, and housekeeping were all positives. I would consider staying here again, but I hope management addresses the front-desk customer service, Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning issues. Those problems can make a significant difference in an otherwise enjoyable stay.

What a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing, comfortable little inn! Just one street removed from the main drag, staying here means you'll have all the convenience of hanging near the action, but none of the noise and congestion. Granted, you have to walk up a small hill, but it is quite manageable, even after a night of pub-pedaling (like a pub crawl but on a bicycle!) Forget that fancy place with the big front porch, I love the far less expensive, cozy little red and white Hart's Inn! Making a reservation by phone was easy and checking in and out meant simply picking up and dropping off keys. The room was pristine, bright and cheery. We slept like logs in a very comfy bed with the in-room a/c set just where we like it. We took breakfast the next morning al fresco under one of the bright red umbrellas. The landscaping and lawn is colorful and lush. It was like eating in a garden. I loved the big white mugs filled with plenty of steaming, strong coffee. Pierre, the young on-site manager was very personable and helpful. He did a wonderful job of making sure all was in good order. After breakfast we took a bike ride around the island then checked out and left our bags with Pierre while we did a little more exploring. I love that Hart's Inn does not require a two night minimum stay. We wish it could have been longer but we only had one night available on our itinerary. Make sure to request a room that opens onto the lawn.

I've been to Mackinac twice before, the most recent July 2023. I felt familiar and comfortable making our arrangements. I'm so glad I chose Cloghaun B&B. The location put us conveniently close to the places we wanted to experience (Grand Hotel, Jack's Livery, the Fort, restaurants, etc). We had a lovely room (Anna). Each morning the breakfast was delicious and interesting. Thank you to Clover and Carlene (spelling?) for being gracious and welcoming. If I'm lucky enough to return, I would stay no where else.

Note: I believe the elevator only goes up to the third floor and then you'll have to take the stairs from there. Our bedroom had a nice view of the hotel, porch/patio area, the turret housing the 1852 Island Grill, the main street, and Lake Huron. Thank goodness the A/C worked just fine as we were on the top floor. My only concerns would be the slanted roof top which made it difficult to get in and out of the bed without hitting my head and the bath tub which could get slippery and had no grab bar. Amenities included a swimming pool, hot tub, firepit area to roast s'mores (s'mores kit not included, but sold in hotel store), a front porch with rocking chairs with views, bike rentals, and two restaurants. The hotel is within walking distance of Fort Mackinac and the downtown area, but a good distance away from all the hubbub that made for a relaxing and quiet stay.

BEWARE THE FOURTH FLOOR…read more The 1852 Grill Room was wonderful, the hotel is beautiful from the outside, the staff is fine - but the pictures they post of the bedrooms are NOT the bedrooms you will be staying in, especially on the fourth floor. I knew the room would be small but the pictures of my room were incredibly misleading and most importantly NOT the room me and my wife saw. The bathroom in the online photos had a glass door shower, our room had a dinky plastic liner. THE ROOF IS CONCRETE POPCORN AND VIOLENTLY SLANTED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE SLEEPING BED. It was physically difficult to get in and out of the bed, forcing any adult person (I'm only 5'7") to squat and crawl in and out of the bed. If I sat up in the middle of the night, I would literally would have been hospitalized from this idiotic ceiling/bed placement. Pics to prove it. Overall, our trip to Mackinac Island was wonderful but this hotel room was the worst part of it and the worst $800+ I have ever spent.
