We enjoyed our quiet and comfortable stay in June 2023. We shared this room with our teenage son. Walking distance to most activities, restaurants and shops. Took the taxi to the MCD airport.

My husband and I stayed here when celebrating our 1 year anniversary. We absolutely loved it at the Windermere Hotel! The staff was so sweet and friendly, and the hotel's decorations were charming and quaint. We really--really--enjoyed our stay here. The location was ideal; it was on the main strip but it was still quiet and had a great view. We would love to stay here again!

The Windermere is the cleanest hotel I've ever been in. We've stayed just about everywhere on Mackinac the last 26 years and have concluded the Windermere is best. The location is superb. The rooms are charming and roomy. (Many island hotels are crowded as rabbit warrens.)You are guests of local islanders, not a corporate entity. The building is impeccably clean and well cared for, with homey features like real table lamps, a piano in the lobby, and charming original doorknobs, paneling and banisters. I love the wallpaper and bedspreads: they're like the anti-Big Box Chain Inn, cozy and soulful. All right, it's true: the breakfast is mini doughnuts and bagels. Suck it up and look forward to a fun lunch! Or go a few steps to the chuckwagon. When was the last time you liked those lousy hotel waffles anyway? The Windermere is like having your mortgage paid off. There's an ease that comes from not requiring every square inch to pay off on the bottom line. There's space for a beautiful garden, where more rooms could be. There're real light bulbs and table lamps with cloth shades instead of those horrid fluorescent things. There' re no TVs in the rooms, but there're real bedspreads, and plentiful ice and a spacious porch. There are stated rates, instead of a reservations boiler room with "special" rates that vary unpredictably based on demand (and commission). It is a step back in time in the most gracious sense of the word. Go as soon as you can. Sleep with the windows open. Smell that breeze all night and wake to the clop-clop of hooves. You won't regret it.

We stayed upstairs in the family room. 4th July week, 2015. Clean and well cared for, because dirt is not character, it's dirt. Like I said very clean, fresh paint and flowers. Just sit on the porch and take it in. The boats coming and going. No cars, so Go for a bike ride, the island is tops. We could go every year. At night the Main Street and the island go quiet, distant horse hooves clopping and music in the wind. Great dinner at any of the fine restaurants. Walk around till dark or after. The top floor is up in the trees, people won't see in, open windows fresh lake air all night long... Yeah.

    Room B4 upon arrival.

Kristen (the innkeeper) had a couple of interns (Bess and Tara) with her during our stay. All of them were helpful and friendly. The weekend was unseasonably cold, so we spent a lot of time in our cozy garden suite. Breakfast in our room both mornings was wonderful, and Kristen even told my friend the secret to her delicious coffee (I don't drink coffee and was only ordering so my friend would have double! LOL). I was initially really excited at the availability of Grand Hotel passes, since I've never been inside, but we never really ventured that far in the cold. After having such a great weekend even in miserable weather, I'm looking forward to heading back again with the family this summer.

Small Point has a wonderful wrap around front porch to hang out on, we enjoyed watching the beautiful waters from it. I got up early (around 515am) and walked across the field to the water and watched the sunrise. I'd suggest everyone do this..it was so peaceful and calming. I'd suggest Small Point to anyone, very clean, homey and reasonable in costs.

When I called to finalize our booking, my wife had already spoken to someone named Rose. I called back so we could both speak with her and go over a few questions before booking the room. The woman on the phone Rose was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful. She explained everything clearly: when meals were served, how we could get our luggage to the hotel, and what to expect during our stay. She made such a good impression over the phone that we were really excited to stay there. Since there weren't any porters available when we arrived, we walked our bags to the hotel. It wasn't a far walk, and once we got there, we were greeted by Rose at the front desk. She checked us in, asked how many keys we wanted, and directed us to our room. The room was clean and looked just like it did online. It's an older property, so we weren't expecting a 5 start hotel, and that was fine with us. However, the first night I noticed a small spider on the bed. I didn't think much of it at first, old building, things happens. But every night after that and even during the day, I had to kill spiders. This went on every single day of our 3-night stay. My wife was terrified because she doesn't like bugs, especially ones crawling around the room. That alone made it hard for her to relax. The bed was a king, but the pillows were queen-sized and not good at all. We both left with sore necks. By the last night, we were just ready to go. Here's a quick breakdown of the pros and cons: Pros: * Great location--close to shops, restaurants, and local spots. * The staff--Rose, Norman, and everyone we encountered were incredibly welcoming and helpful. * Master SuitesRooms are spacious, and they provide plenty of towels. * Room service is available for fresh linens. * Breakfast was good, two out of the three mornings were great. * Master suites have large jetted tubs with a nice view, which is nice. Cons: * Spiders were everywhere--inside the room, around the stairwells, and all over the balcony. * The balcony was unusable because of the number of small flies and spiders outside. * The showerhead had poor pressure and didn't spray evenly. * Furniture felt old and fragile, definitely due for an update. * Pillows were uncomfortable and left us sore. * The property, while good in its age, is overpriced for how old and worn-down it is. You're not getting your money's worth in terms of comfort or amenities. If I were rating our stay based on service alone, this would be a solid 5-star review. The staff truly went above and beyond. But when adding in the condition of the property and the overall comfort of the stay, I have to give it 3 stars. The negatives outweighed the positives, and unfortunately, we won't be returning.

And remember throughout this review, the room costs $900 per night!!! This place is not a luxury resort as advertised and our "suite" was nothing more than a pretty run down Motel Six room. The check-in process is fairly complicated and throughout our stay the staff acted like they were gatekeeping information and it was a bother to provide information on check in or check out procedures. Our room #2380 was located in the Straights Building and was about a 1/8 mile uphill walk from the front desk. This caused mobility issues for my friends elderly mother in which the hotel provided no help. The room itself was an absolute disaster at about 100 ft.². For $900 a night you get three beds and one chair. When we asked for two additional chairs we were provided two folding chairs. The room itself is very dated and dirty. The tv remote was broken and the bathtub did not drain which required two maintenance men one hour to fix. There are two very noisy window air conditioner units, which will keep you up all night. We had two dogs with us so booked the "luxury "dog package, which is a total scam. It is an extra $200 per night for which they provide a plastic dog bowl. They advertise that they provide dog sitting, but when we asked about this they said to go on the Rover app and book it with a stranger. No thank you. Mission Point Resort tries to pass itself off as old school luxury. In actuality, it is just rundown, dirty and grimy for $900 a night. At this point the only fix for such a dilapidated facility would be to shut it down for several years and do a complete remodel and rehabilitation. We were very disappointed with our stay and would not recommend this establishment.

It is on the pricier side BUT you need to weight the pros and cons and we'll always choose Mission Point Resort.
