I officially witnessed the worst male hairdresser ever. I came there expecting to get a nice spot perm and haircut. I left the salon without a perm and a frizzy botched haircut. I called the salon and told them I wasn't happy with my haircut and it needed to be fixed. Taryn was chosen to fix my hair and she did THE BOMB. She pulled out every tool in her 'tool box' to layer and blend my hair like it should have been the 1st time around. I left the salon feeling great. I recently had a wash and blowout done, stylist was extremely slow and shampoo was so weak. if I could offer a suggestion, stylist should give great shampoos ,that's a service that sets them apart from the rest. Also I asked for curls after and was going to use a straightening iron without asking me up front what I would like. maybe I had the wrong stylist, will never go to her again. I got a pedicure here in September 2024. The nail tech was working on my cuticles and did something that caused severe pain. I knew it would lead to an infection, and it did. I have been on three rounds of antibiotics now, and it has still not cleared up. I am seeing podiatry next week, and am hopeful that this nightmare will end soon. TARYN IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST. If you want your hair ruined go to her and Charles Scott Salons. Anyone purposely seeing that they've made a hair destroying mistake to your hair should be mature enough and professional enough to admit it and offer to fix it, which she did not. The salon employees should also not share the personal reasons as to why Charles Scott is no longer with us. That is not for public knowledge and as someone who has suffered a similar loss, it's creates a difficult situation to have to then sit in a chair for 2-1/2 hours, knowing this information. The front desk staff is also rude and Taryn clearly has not been well trained, as she is formerly a trained opera singer. If you want your hair destroyed, make an appointment with Taryn! read more

My friend and I visited the salon in June 2024 for manicures and pedicures before our vacation. I received the spa mani/pedi and she had scheduled the traditional mani/pedi. Alena and Michelle C. were excellent. They were on time, friendly, and experienced. I was concerned that I would nick my polish but Michelle already had a process to ensure everything was dry unlike other salons I've visited. I saw the nail tech, Danielle at the Avon location. She was phenomenal. I did the gel x and was in between acrylic and the gel x. We talked through pros and cons of both, she was able to replicate the image I showed her perfectly and even had the terracota color I was hoping for to match my bridesmaid dress. HIGHLY recommend. She was so kind, funny, and really listened to me. Also, I have been going to Sara Beth for eyebrows. She does a phenomenal job every time. Today was my first experience at Charles Scott and I think I've found my new salon! The salon is HUGE, chic, and carries a great selection of styling products. Everyone was super nice. Shortly after posting my 1-star review last Thursday about my lack of contact about my cancelled pedicure the general manager called me personally and apologized for my experience. She agreed that my experience wasn't acceptable, and that they should've attempted to work the situation out in a better fashion. She offered me a complementary service which I accepted. Most expensive & worst pedicure I've had! One day after the pedicure both my big toenails chipped. I paid $60 & it did not even last one day. All my other pedicures in the past have it lasted at least two weeks & were half the cost. They did not even trim my ingrown toenails. The salon was nice however the pedicure took very long and many of the edges of my nails were not even painted. Very disappointed. Poor selection of colors. read more

The phone system here is super annoying. If you call and no one picks up, you get directed through an unhelpful list of prompts i.e. you follow the prompts for spa services and pricing and instead of listing them you just get a message saying "spa services and pricing" and then it exists the system and hangs up. If they are closed, I would rather just a message (like the River location) telling me they are closed and when they will be open again. I am going to book somewhere else. Additionally, I have been getting my haircut here for years and every 6 months or so the price of a haircut increases like $5. My stylist was the only reason I was still going and she left, so I followed her to a new location. The salon is nice inside but I feel the quality hasn't held up to the increasing prices and I more and more find myself turning to their competitors. read more

I never give reviews but I was so disappointed with Charles Scott West. I have never been here before but booked an appointment for a women's haircut. Everyone was friendly but I paid $52 plus tip to my stylist who washed, quickly cut and blow dried my hair. I am used to having my hair styled with a round brush or with a curling iron during haircuts. I have thick, wavy hair so my hair was left looking very frizzy. The description of the service says a haircut includes "consultation, shampoo, cut and style". I was so upset that there was no styling of my hair, and rather just blown out with a comb that made my hair very frizzy. read more

So I have to admit something before coming here I was a salon surfer. Wherever had the best deal was where I was and honestly that was normally best cuts and my hair showed that!! I started going to the rocky river salon and was set up with Randi while she was still an apprentice. I was hesitant but I'm glad I took the chance my hair has NEVER looked better she always offers her honest opinion and makes sure I have the right products to get the look I'm after! The receptionist was incredibly rude and the stylists all looked trashy. They were wearing dresses more appropriate for clubbing than work. The products used were all cheap and nothing better than you'd find at CVS. They also don't offer water or anything, and most salons do. Randi was super hesitant the entire time, too, and kept asking if I needed mousse or hairspray. Typically, stylists just go ahead and do it... Honestly, I expected more for the price. This was about the same quality as Great Clips. I left with my hair looking about the same as it did when I came in. read more

as i sat at my desk yesterday, my back started getting more and more sore. sometimes i like to feel like i'm a jetsetting heiress who can afford to splurge on self indulgences. i'm certainly not, but let's use that as my excuse to drop some cash on something for me. i booked an appointment to work out that little ol' back issue in a hot stone massage. i called charles scott, since a friend recently went there for a spa day and really enjoyed it. here's some gripes that a jetsetting heiress, unlike myself, would probably have issues with: the noise back in the spa area. sure, they're piping in mellow earth sounds and piano music to relax you and make you a vegetable. but over that? people in the spa lobby talking full voice, shaking you out of your comatose. noise from the salon in front piping through God knows where. it kinda throws you off. and if you're dropping a benjamin on getting out some kinks in your body or just need to detox, it's a bit much. i've been wanting to get a hot stone massage for awhile now. they just seemed like they'd be uber relaxing and would work out any issue you may have. i walked in with some neck and shoulder issues. i walked out with them too. hmm. they mix hands on massage with the hot stone massage. and i'm not asking her to throw the darn rock at my back, but like, my neck and shoulders still hurt. she was really nice and probably really good at swedish judging by the hands on part, and i probably should have just booked a normal swedish massage, but i wanted to try the stones. my bad. can you imagine a hot stone massage by someone totally unqualified to do one? man, that would be a good snl skit. what do normal people think about when they're getting a massage? here are the things i thought about: 1) ouch. my boobs hurt. (laying on your stomach on a flat massage board?) they should make female ones shaped like this --------------------J------ 2) the hilarious scenarios of the stone massage gone wrong 3) when will that lady stop talking in the lobby? i digress. anyways, yeah. next time i can afford to splurge on a little something for myself, i'm skipping the hot stone. hahahaha get it? skipping the stone? oh man, i crack myself up. um. ok. enough. read more

I made a few bad choices with my hair when I moved back to Cleveland. And as a result, I spent most of this past summer with tiger hair. Yes, brunette with god awful orangish-yellow stripes. I almost cry now just thinking about how jacked up I looked. I was just about to give up and buy a box of Clairol cool brown to coverup the disaster on my head when my mom suggested I make an appointment with her stylist, Tina, at Charles Scott. She warned me since my hair was such a mess (gotta love a mother's honesty) I might have to shell out the dough and get a corrective color. So I made an appointment and hoped for the best...which is what I got! Tina was able to blend 3 different highlights/lowlights into my existing mess and make it look fabulous! No corrective color needed...just an awesome stylist! And she took my concerns about trying to grow my hair longer and was able to even it out without taking too much length off. My new do was such a success, my boyfriend (who was smart enough to never make a comment about my previous horrible color) even mentioned how great it looked! And Tina is such a sweetheart. So easy to talk to and a has a great personality. The salon just recently relocated to Crocker Park so parking is a bit more difficult, but there are supposed to be assigned spots for CS customers in the garage behind the salon. I am always at Crocker Park for one thing or another so I personally love the new location. The prices are comprable to other established salons in the Cleveland area and the quality of service you receive is worth every penny! read more

Dear Owner of Charles Scott West, I have been a customer for several years. My usual stylist has been more and more difficult to schedule. She called in sick at the last minute for a Saturday appointment, and I was given another stylist for a color touchup and cut. The stylist damaged my haircolor, blonde on top and black in the back. I received comments from coworkers, friends and family wondering what had happened. I called to have the color repaired, requesting a different stylist. When I arrived at the salon, I was told that I would have the same stylist who had ruined my hair. I asked for another appointment and even my money back ($168.45) and was told neither option was possible. The stylist was rude and applied all over brown to my hair. She put me in a corner and said that I would be done in 15 minutes. At 20 minutes, I asked for service, and at 25 minutes the shampoo girl washed and dried my hair. I told the stylist and front desk that I was very unhappy with the results. They just shrugged. The following week, I tried a new stylist at CC Salon & Spa in Westlake and was thrilled. I had forgotten what excellent customer service was like. The shampoo chairs are comfortable, your head fits the sink. The stylist took his time with me to repair the damage and charged me much less. He talked with me first about what I wanted and made every effort to make sure I was satisfied. My hair looks the best it has looked in years. What a difference! If you are going to charge the prices that you do, you need to offer so much more. I should have demanded my money back for such treatment. A customer is not a number. I would have been better treated at a Best Cuts for $9.95. Not only have you lost a long time customer, but I was so disappointed that I felt the need to post my experience on Yelp. Came here almost two weeks ago, and got shellac French done. My nails are literally still perfect. I work with my hands, so they typically look pretty gross but BRITTNEY sure knows what she's doing. My hands looks great. Actually pretty to look at! I got so many compliments on how great they look. And she did a perfect French tip. I am so happy that she was able to fit me in her schedule. I just had moved to westlake and was looking for a new salon..I had found this location by walking thru crocker park. I called made an appointment said I was new to the area needed a new salon and wanted someone who was familar with edgy hair styles. She recommeded Cathy. When I arrived I explained what I wanted a trim on my inverted bob....well what i got was a same length and more of a bob with uneven choppy layers. After asking her to even them up 4 times!!!! I left my old salon after 2 years because I had a very bad experience (a trim turned into 10inches being cut off, and there was a month of crying). So I booked a haircut here for a trim with Vanessa. First off, she is super sweet and fun to talk to. I told her about my bad experience and even showed her pictures. She told me cutting my hair dry was best for my hair texture. She then explained everything that she was doing. She barely cut any length off but made my hair look so much healthier! I am so glad I gave this place a chance after reading mixed reviews. I went to Charles Scott West for all my wedding services (including my bridesmaids updos) and I couldn't have been a happier bride! I had been to the Charles Scott Rocky River location quite a bit for my nails but I had never been to the Crocker Park location so I was a bit nervous but my nerves were quickly put at ease! I did both a hair and make-up trial a week prior to the wedding. I definitely recommend doing both!! Again, it put my nerves at ease knowing I loved the way both had come out during the trial which made me confident I would love it on the big day as well. My mom did a hair trial too and she was glad she did for the opposite reason: she did not like the original hairstyle she chose and this gave her time to find something new. Brenda did my makeup and she couldn't have been any sweeter! During my trial she took the time to learn about the wedding, the style, my taste, and my typical makeup wear. I do not wear heavy makeup usually so she was able to give me a look that was beautiful without feeling like it was all just heavy makeup, which isn't me. I felt beautiful but I still felt like myself, which was very important to me! I also wear glasses, which I wore on my wedding day, and she was able to make my makeup work with that as well. She gave me tips for my skin leading up to the big day and just in general helped me relax and enjoy the whole process! Next, Abby did my hair. She was awesome!! She was super excited about the updo I wanted, which made me even more excited and confident I'd made the right choice. She also was able to pull it off flawlessly, which is a huge accomplishment because I have very fine, thin straight hair. She was so fun and upbeat during both the trial and day-of styling! I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Because of this I'm even considering making the switch to her as my routine stylist! I also got a spray tan, shellac manicure, and a pedicure. Julia did my spray tan and she was great! I'm very fair skinned and she agreed that their lightest color would be best for me. I've been to other places that push you to get a darker color so I appreciated this. She did a great job- didn't miss anything! My tan lasted just over a week which was awesome! For my manicure, I was with Stephanie. I was a little hesitant at first as she was not super friendly. However, she warmed up as she kept going and more importantly, she gave me the best French manicure I have EVER had!! I have weirdly shaped nails so usually French doesn't turn out right, but she made it work and I was so happy!! Lauren did my pedicure and she did a great job as well. Overall, I highly recommend Charles Scott West! Jillian, their event/wedding coordinator, was able to set up all the appointments so my bridesmaids, mom, and I all got our hair done at the same time. I have been looking for a new hair stylist for some time now. I thought I would give Charles Scott a try. I made an appointment for highlights and a color. When I met with my hair stylist, she told me that my hair was too dark to highlight and I needed color correction. She talked me into bleaching my hair to lighten it and then using a lighter brown with some blonde highlights. Before we began the process she told me that they do "makeover mondays" and she took a before shot of my hair. We agreed to bleach my hair, then color it a light brown with blonde highlights. First of all, she put the highlights in when she bleached my hair, then she washed everything out and then applied the light brown color ALL OVER my hair, including the areas where she just put in the blonde highlights!! So when everything was said and done, my hair was a lighter brown with an orange tint, with no highlights. I am assuming that the results did not meet her makeover monday standards because she never took an after shot of my hair. Now that it is all said and done, my hair is super dry and has an orange tint to it. I guess she could have taken an after shot of my hair and I could be apart of makeover mondays gone bad. This was by far one of the most expensive and disappointing hair appointments I have ever had. This appointment cost me $250.00 and I am super disappointed. I will not be returning and I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more
