This review is only for the initial call. I researched a lot of different financial advisors and…read morethey were all pretty much the same. The difference between Lula Financial and the others I talked to is the customer service. You aren't going to get the typical "financial customer service" you're used to. Benjamin is going to talk to you like a person who needs a financial advisor and he'll use words you can understand. He might call your situation boring or lame but not in a condescending way. Talking to Benjamin was like talking to someone I knew personally, and I didn't even have to use my own customer service voice.

They did a nice job explaining the difference between all my options and the best way to lower my taxes. If you just need some basic financial planning and investment advice, Lula Financial is great.

We got married a few years ago and had a lot of questions--about retirement planning, taxes, how our home equity figured in, how much we should think about spending on renovations, and cash savings vs. market investing. She also helped us shape up our 401(k) allocations and think about our estate plan. Jennifer's a great teacher--she patiently led us through making more informed decisions and pointed out the things we weren't thinking about but should be. Now we feel like we're on the same page and we get how the pieces go together into the big picture, which is really reassuring. We also appreciated how transparent her fees were and felt the cost was really reasonable compared with other local CFPs we considered. We're really glad we found Jennifer and plan to continue working with her.

We feel we've benefited from her help a lot, and have come to think of her as a friend. I can also say I shopped around before choosing her, and considered her rate comparatively cheap.

I opened a Unitus account a little less than a year ago hoping to get away from big banks and…read moresupport something local. Unfortunately, I regret that decision. From the start, I've had nothing but issues with their fraud protection system. Every time I tried adding my debit card to Apple Wallet, my account froze and triggered a fraud alert. Then, after making a small purchase (under $6!) at a supermarket I visit all the time, the same thing happened again. Of course, these alerts always seemed to hit on weekends -- leaving me without access to my money until Monday. When I finally reached customer service, they offered no real help. I was told there was nothing they could do and that "Apple or the market" was causing the alerts -- which makes no sense, since I've never had this issue with any other bank. More recently, my direct deposit didn't post on the scheduled day. I went into the branch to let them know and asked that any overdraft fees be reversed since the deposit would arrive the next business day. Instead of helping, the assistant manager, Kay Birgul, was dismissive and rude. Her exact words were, "If you have more items that hit before your deposit, your employer will have to cover them." I've never requested a fee reversal before and didn't appreciate being treated like an inconvenience. To be fair, other staff at that branch have been kind and helpful in the past -- but this experience was enough to push me to close my account. I'm moving out of state soon anyway and will be switching to another bank. I'm sure there are plenty of local options with better customer service and fewer technical issues.
