After 40 minutes on the phone with a specialist, I had to write them a letter, give them a week to process then call them back to confirm the transfer that takes several days. After that I have to call back to do distributions into accounts that again takes several days to process after doing the distributions. I have spent hours on the phone to do a simple deposit and distribution and it has taken weeks to process the request. The process is confusing and painful. Schwab has a separate division for this and the phone consultants have to message someone to tell them what to do. Do not use Schwab for 401k plans Bill Stotts

I was then told that it will take 14 days from the time they received it. I called again today since it has been a little over 14 days and was told its still under verification. I asked to speak to a manager who was also completely useless. I asked if I could speak to a manager of the department who does the verification and she said they don't handle these types of calls. My response was "They don't handle calls about something only their department handles" This company gives off scam vibes. They wait passed the last minute and spring up unnecessary obstacles that delay closing. No communciation with my clients not even to introduce themselves. We used them once and promised to never use them again, but unfortunately our Realtor signed them up. So our Realtor learned the hard way what a headache they are. Our experience was one where it was very challenging to get direct answers regarding fees, particularly wrap fees, with the company benefiting more from our working hard to save than us. During the transfer process it became even more clear why we were seeing such poor returns, long term positions we selected along with our kid's education funds were funded so that they also were subject to wrap fees, something that just isn't appropriate by any measure. Highly regret the years we wasted with this firm where they earned more on our money than us. Hope we can help correct the years of lost opportunities with more involvement on our part (yes, we screwed up by placing too much trust in this co.) and by working with a person who has laid out all fees and expectations with transparency. Additionally, our first advisor was forced out of Ameriprise, we were never told exactly why, but it took a couple years to straighten out various filings that were not done or done improperly. We incurred $1500 in fees to file for back years and received a $15,000 penalty notice from the IRS that took months on my part to sort out, with no ownership from Ameriprise for their part in the problem. My advise, stay far away from this company!
