Just had our bed and mattress delivered yesterday and so far we're very happy. We went to the NYC showroom to check out the Estate SE mattress that Wirecutter recommended. It was very good but we tried the other ones and could not believe how comfortable the Lifetime 9 was. My wife prefers a firmer bed than me and the salesman explained how their "cassette" topper system for the Lifetime is split in two for the kings (we got a cali king) and one side is softer than the other to do exactly that. That's how they have the beds setup in the showroom so we could confirm that soft side was perfect for me and harder side was perfect for her. Long story short, we totally upsold ourselves by at least two models because this mattress was so much more comfortable than anything we tried from them or any other company. The salesman didn't push us at all. He didn't need to. We were upgrading from a truly ancient queen bed and mattress and are up two flights of stairs in a brownstone so we bought a new frame (Alana in tiger mahogany) and paid for the white glove service to bring everything up to our bedroom floor (otherwise they'd leave it inside our front door at the bottom of the stairs), setup the new bed, and cart away the old mattress and box spring (old frame is still our responsibility). Delivery was easy to setup around our schedule, guys called a few days before to confirm delivery window then called when they were 20 minutes away. They arrived right on time, did everything they were supposed to, and took away all boxes, plastic, tape, etc. Could not have been smoother. It's only been one night but we slept incredibly well and my wife is now late taking our cat to the vet because she took a nap and slept too long! She does not seem remorseful. read more

I half previously bought not one, but 3 bedroom sets from this company and the quality does not hold up over time. Besides scratching very easily, one of the beds lost a cam/dowel piece that holds the sideboard to the footer. Went to Lowes and Home Depot, not one single one fits. Why build furniture with such complex lockings and when a piece fails or goes missing no way fo replace it. The day bed itself is coming apart at the wooden seam where the metal joice bar holds it. Now the bed sags. Wish i could have know instead of spending a total of $5,000+ for all these beds. Not the long lasting quality I thought I'd get read more

I have not had a more terrible and misleading purchasing experience. At nearly every interaction, promises were made and not kept. From delivery dates, to call backs, to delivery method, to updates, to product packaging. Agents and sales people stop responding to calls. Mattress took double the stated time to arrive. Ordered bed frame, I stored it while the house was being finished. I personally moved and stored the box myself. Opened it up and the footboard and headboard both bent. Literally a crease in one of the rods but "The finish on your top crossbars is consistent with our quality standards and is not damaged." I'd love to show a picture. It's insane. They don't even deserve one star. They came highly recommended by the designer I worked with who had a longstanding relationship with them and even has their mattress and bed she sleeps on. We ordered a full year in advance of when we'd need the bed and mattress. In late December we readied for the bed only to be told it couldn't come in time b/c there was a fire in their Philippines warehouse. We quickly scrambled and found something we liked even better through Room and Board. Then 10 days before move-in we called for the mattress and were told they needed 3 weeks' notice to deliver it. We were never told that at the point of sale and the designer had never had that happen with any other customer. So we found an even better deal with a Saatva mattress; they couldn't guarantee 10 days but were so shocked at our dilemma that they pulled out all the stops and it ended up arriving in the nick of time the day before move-in. That mattress was less expensive and so much better in that it combined memory foam and a box spring. We can't get out of bed. It's the most sleep-inducing mattress ever! Designer and her staff and I have been on them for three months now for a $1K deposit refund. They wanted to charge a restocking fee. For a fire and not being on time to deliver either of our purchased-a-year-in-advance items? Hell to the no. So now I've unleashed the credit card company to do a formal dispute and issue a credit. Run, don't walk away from this merchant. Mattress came smelling like burnt plastic. I tried airing it out in a room with windows open for days and the smell did not dissipate. In fact, it seeped into my box spring. Customer service has been atrocious. I have been trying to get a refund since I pleaded to return the pungent mattress for over three weeks now. I have been told there were internal processing delays and all matters of nefarious nonsense to delay my refund. I suspect this merchant may have been good in the past but has since gone downhill rapidly. I recently purchased the Alexandria bed from Charles P. Rogers. It is unfortunate that a company that has been in existence since 1855 is currently producing a product of such inferior quality & craftmanship. The bed arrived with the incorrect side rails which were eventually replaced. The painted finish didn't even stand up to careful assembly without scratching. Overall disappointed how Linda and her staff treated us. Linda "forgot" to mention that after a 3 week production period, delivery would take another 4 weeks. We would have not bought the $3000+ plush SE mattress had she told us. I am sure that was the reason for her not telling us. After a 7 week wait a firm mattress was delivered. My call to the store was answered by a surly "Amber" who told me in no uncertain terms that we were "required" to test the mattress for one month before we could exchange or return the mattress. We purchased an Estate 5000 Firm King Mattress from Charles P. Rogers in March 2020. It shipped within 3 days, and was delivered a few days after that. We've had it for more than 5 years. It is the most comfortable mattress we have ever owned. It has great motion isolation - I can't detect when my spouse moves or gets out of bed. Firm is actually firm - but not hard. After 5 years, there are no sags or dips anywhere - it looks new. I'm posting this review 5-1/2 years later because we're about to buy a new mattress for a guest room and we're getting the same one. Note that the "list price" was $3,779 but we only paid a sale price of $1,799 directly from Charles P. Rogers, so never pay full retail for these. read more

It's interesting; I tried to leave a less-than-stellar review on their site because they supposedly value customer reviews. But because I chose the option that I'm not happy with the product, it shunted me off to a form fill instead vs. allowing me to write a review. Haven't heard anything from the business since. So BUYER BEWARE of the reviews on the site. I bought a mattress from CP Rogers about a year ago because Wirecutter said it's a good mattress (the Estate SE). It was roughly $1000 more than the other mattress I was considering, but I was willing to shell out money for a quality product. A year later, I haven't slept through the night. I sleep better on my couch than on my mattress. I toss and turn every single night trying to alleviate the discomfort in my lower back. I contacted CP Rogers about 6 months after I got the mattress, letting them know it's not supportive enough. They offered me a "fix" in the form of a coir layer to put under the topper. That's another $150. I paid for that because I really just want a good night's sleep. Spoiler alert, that didn't work. Lower back still had issues and now my shoulders were being crushed as well as I'm primarily a side sleeper. I've already decided to look for a new mattress in the new year. This was an expensive lesson learned, and all I have to say is buyer beware when reading reviews on CP Rogers' site as it's not a fair, representative sample of customer satisfaction with their product. read more

If I could give separate ratings for the mattress itself (5!) and our sales experience (1) I would, so we'll call it a 3 for now. First the good: After two weeks sleeping on the mattress, it is everything we hoped it would be. Firm and supportive, yet very comfortable, and my back is feeling better. Now the rest: We had put off replacing our 9 year old (top rated at the time) foam mattress, but my worsening morning back pain insisted it was time. We had seen the great magazine ratings of Charles P. Rogers, and settled on a Power Core Estate 5000 innerspring queen, so we visited the Manhattan showroom Sunday 12/1, and spoke to Tim. Tim indicated delivery time was often 1-2 weeks, but sometimes longer depending upon supply in stock. Tim quoted us a price even lower than what I had seen on line, but it turned out he was mistaken when I called the next day to place the order. A little annoyed, I took another look at similarly priced mattresses that could have been delivered in a couple of days. I wanted the Beautyrest Pressure Smart 2.0 extra firm, but my wife thought it too hard. She liked the Avocado, but I thought it too soft. So yes, we agreed the Charles P. Rogers was just right. So I went on line and placed the order, paid in full 12/3, and eagerly waited a call from the delivery folks. And waited. After about ten days I called to see if I could at least get a predicted date. Nope. This is no criticism of the folks I spoke to, they were as polite as helpful as the y could be. Eventually I learned it was "in production." I also learned that production had been backed up since November. This would have been good to know, as if I had any idea it would take a full eight weeks for the mattress to arrive, I never would have ordered it. Would I order a mattress from Charles P. Rogers again? Maybe, but only if it came with a money back guarantee they could deliver in a timely manner. read more

Run away from this company. I would give a zero star if I could. Our experience was extremely disappointing. We have been robbed by Charles P. Rogers. We purchased two queen mattress, foundations, and bed frames in November, 2023. One was for our primary residence and the other was for our summer place. At the time of purchase, we asked Tim Hoerle, the salesperson, what the return policy was for the entire purchase, and he stated it was a 100-day return, minus a $199 recycling fee, for the mattress. That was a lie. We later learned that the bed frames and foundations were final sale. Delivery was problematic, because Rogers scheduled both deliveries on days when we were not at home. When I contacted Rogers about the problem, they were late to respond and extremely unhelpful when they did respond, so I had to reschedule with the delivery companies myself. When the beds were delivered, the mattresses were rolled up tightly, and the foundations were folded in half. They were flimsy and unlike any mattresses or box springs we had ever had before. One foundation cover was ripped, and the hardware for one bed was not threaded, so we had to buy makeshift hardware until Rogers sent the replacements. As soon as I sat on the first mattress on the day of delivery, I knew there was going to be a problem. It was much softer than the firm mattress we had chosen at the store. It did not feel anything like it. After several miserable nights on the soft mattress, I contacted Tim Hoerle and was told it was the correct one and that I could not return it for at least 30 days. I marked my calendar to return both mattresses, as the second one was just as soft, and we went mattress shopping again. On day 30 I filled out the necessary online survey for returns and contacted Tim Hoerle. He tried to sell me toppers, at a discount, but I persisted that I wanted to return the mattresses. He called again to try to convince me to keep the mattresses, and I declined. Then someone who identified himself as Ashton, another Rogers' employee, called to make the same offer and to also inform me that only one mattress could be returned, because of the "one mattress return per household policy" that we should have known about. The policy was never shared with us. It appears on the bottom of the invoice, which is only printed out and given to the customer after the sale is made. Furthermore, we had asked Tim for an explanation of the policy, as we were planning to purchase two mattresses, and notably he left that detail out. But most importantly, the mattresses were delivered to two different homes, over 70 miles apart, and they were paid for on two separate invoices. Unbelievably, Rogers is claiming they were purchased for the same "household". Communicating with management has been frustrating and unsuccessful, as everyone we have dealt with seems to have an inability to speak the truth. We have given up trying to reason with Rogers and have enlisted our credit card company to help us get our money back for the second mattress, which we have already replaced. Saatva sells a much better quality mattress and stands by its product. It is substantial, arrives intact, not rolled up like a burrito, with a full box spring that actually supports the mattress. If you are looking for a metal bed frame, and you end up at Rogers, know that the quality control on the hardware is poor, and the customer service is worse. Looking back at reviews, which we should have done in more depth before we went shopping, we learned that we are definitely not alone. Product bait and switch, incomplete disclosures at purchase, and predatory business practices for returns are the MO at this company, and we hope this review saves someone else from making the mistake of trusting Charles P. 12/6/24 Follow up after one year: extremely dissatisfied. We got a new mattress when we got the Alana platform bed, but we have been increasingly uncomfortable on it. After living with both for a year, we moved the mattress and disassembled the platform to update the flooring beneath, only to find several defects: both metal interior legs are broken at the welds where the levelers connect, one (but only one) wood side rail is both sagging in the middle and bowed outward, and the thin strips of plywood that make up the cloth covered platform support sections are all separating and no longer supporting our mattress. We contacted Rogers and provided descriptions, pictures, and video of the defective parts to customer service, and while they have been quick to reply to all our messages, they will not acknowledge that any of the defects are their responsibility. They insist that all the broken pieces are caused by use or misuse, which we find to be nonsensical as we assembled and disassembled the bed only once, nevermind the warped side rail. They have offered to replace all the affected parts, but completely at our cost, which totals more than 40% of the price of the entire bed one year ago. Despite their published warranty (limited to metal parts) it appears that Charles P Rogers does not stand behind their product. We will be replacing this defective platform bed with a different brand, and we would recommend Charles P Rogers to absolutely no one. Original review 10/24/23: The king bed we ordered is built and finished as nice as any piece of fine furniture I've seen, new or vintage, very impressive. Processing and shipping was quick. It arrived in 3 packages and was probably the most efficiently & thoroughly packaged item I've ever bought online, not a mark on it anywhere despite obvious rough handling during shipping. These pictures speak for themselves (mattress rolls upwards even on the flat ground). I feel that Thomas is a jerk and a horrendous manager (this is my personal opinion in dealing with him in contrast to the nice, older, NY men who once ran management when we bought our last Lifetime mattress). He stated it was our error in flipping the boxsprings, which had only been that way 2 days, being that I misread it after taking this mattress apart over 12 times. This is nothing like our last Lifetime, made several years ago, that we love to this day. In my opinion, this is garbage. They sent us an old mattress made in October even though Amber stated(upon purchasing over the phone) "it's being made" when we ordered it In late January. The mattress itself states it needs no boxsprings and yet they are saying bc i accidentally flipped boxspring for approximately 2 days it is my fault and not covered by warranty even though we had been calling for months complaining and they kept saying "sleep on it" (until we were out of the 90 day window). Our mattress poofs up in middle, we roll off sides(and no we are not big people...210lbs total has been on this mattress). We cannot sleep and we are out 4k. We have contacted BBB, NY attorney generals office, and next will be our CC company letter. This 25-30 year mattress didn't last a week. I have no problems with the company or the staff. Shipping was delayed, but so is everything, so whatever. We have Estate SE and... It is SO HOT. FLAMINGLY HOT. It's apparently made of natural Latex which is supposed to be cooling so I'm not sure what's going on. At first I thought it was me, because I'm a hot sleeper at baseline, but this is like having myself back set on fire at high noon In Ecuador or maybe on the sun. I've never experienced anything this hot. It's like sleeping naked on a bed of those hand warmers on top of a stove. It BURNS. Unfortunately, we didn't realize the problem until about two years of my lying on the bathroom tile to put the fire out. Even when I went back to bed after lolling around on the floor like a dog it still held my body heat. I know mattresses. I've lived in many places. We have two houses. One house has four bedrooms, another has five. NONE of the mattresses (all are different) are this hot. With very other mattress I just toss my legs out and sleep like a starfish for a while. With this one, I had to move to my daughter's memory foam trifold under an open window in the middle of winter when this one overheated to the point of no return (every night), now I use a Bedjet and a cooling topper to tolerate the situation because we can't return it. Initially, I missed the 2 calls that were sent to inform me 30 minutes before that the crew was on their way to deliver our king size mattress. They said no problem when I called back and that they would be there in 25 minutes. Upon arrival, they thought it was a door drop delivery. After a closer paperwork inspection , it was clarified that we had purchased the white glove service which was to remove the old bed and set up the new one. I was happy we paid for the extra service. Everything went very smoothly and quickly. They explained the firm and soft sides of the mattress and set it up to our specification. I was so happy to get rid of our old bed in a bag mattress which barely got us through the Pandemic! I can't wait to sleep on our new Lifetime 9 King size bed! Overall, a very pleasant experience!! I purchased an Alana Tiger Mahogany Full Platform Bed with four underbed drawers. Although the salesman, Steve, was completely confused about whether the drawers would fit or not, eventually he figured out that they would and got the order cleared for delivery. The platform bed and drawers arrived and were expertly assembled by the the delivery men. Perfect! definitely a 5: Woohoo! On the other hand, an Estate 500 Extra Firm Mattress arrived that was much thicker than the one I saw in the showroom. It took an hour of back-breaking struggle to get the bedding on. Every morning, I spend another back-breaking 20 minutes trying to make up the bed. And though Steve had assured me that my regular bedding would fir, my favorite quilt is useless in covering this monster. When I spoke to Steve about replacing the mattress for the one I saw in the showroom, he dismissively declared that all Estate 500 Mattresses were 13.5 inches. So I photographed the mattress showing him that it was actually over 15 inches. Someone named Omar denied the visual evidence and responded: "The mattress is brand new and the padding is as well which may SEEM to make the height of the mattress SEEM a inch or so bigger. I have attached pictures to this e-mail of the Estate 5000 Firm mattress that is in our Manhattan showroom displaying that the Estate 5000 in your home measures THE SAME (caps added) as the one in our showroom." I would rate the mattress a 1: EEK, me thinks not. This my average of a 3 rating for Charles P. Rogers: a 5 for the platform bed and a 1 for the nightmare mattress and also for customer service. I noticed my mattress had begun to sink on the side that I slept, after contacting Charles P Rogers , I was sent a YouTube video on how to measure the mattress, which seems somewhat complicated. I did take a few photos and send in to Charles Rogers, however that was before I actually watched the video. After spending so much money for a mattress I expected that someone would come out to evaluate the problem and to either replace or fix the mattress.
