Delicious wine with super friendly staff. We really enjoyed the dry red cab franc. A great stop before or after the train ride.

We love this place! The wines are not sickly sweet, they are just right in my opinion. They have a nice spirit selection as well. The moonshine flavors are right on. Their bourbon is tasty for the age and the slushee options are a favorite with my wife. We enjoy getting a pizza and wine, sitting on their outdoor patio. Highly recommended!!! read more

We were on a leisurely trip back home recently. Looking for a winery around lunch we were attracted by the high ratings. Well, sometimes you're 180 degrees different from the crowd, and this was our experience with the ratings for this place. First and most important of all, the wines were disappointing. We bought none after the tasting, extremely rare for us. I was confused by the ambience. Is this a wine store, or are the wine sales not enough to keep the doors open (I can understand that!)? Most of the store is devoted to other items, for instance infused olive oils, vinegers, soap, etc. It's in an urban area, which for me is a detriment, though it does have a few of a canal near the Potomac. All in all, you just don't get the feel of a "winery", especially one in a vineyard. read more

Visited on Saturday 11/9, was very excited to check it out, as we live 2.5 hours away, took awhile for someone to say hi, there was only 1 other person in there. I asked if they do taatings, the women there goes yes pick four. We did not know where to pick from, than asked about the Bourbon flights and was told the same thing. We did our tastings and left after, no one asked how was everything or if we needed anything. Very disappointed, we will NOT go back. read more

Fantastic service, the wine is all amazing. They do have a Groupon which is a great deal and if you check in on Yelp, they give you 10% off any purchase coupon. Definitely ask for Seduction, which is not listed on their menu, it's mine and my husbands favorite wine they make. Their patio is perfect for sipping on a beautiful spring or summer day. Walk across the way to European desserts for a meal to compliment the wine and you have the perfect day! read more

This winery had friendly and helpful staff, I'll start there. The wine itself was not great. My partner and I did a flight, some tasted like cough syrup, others had a strange aftertaste. The environment consisted of random patio furniture and folding chairs to sit on. Was not the elevated winery experience either of us were used to. But that's ok! We understand that we might just be out of town city folk with snobby tastes. Enjoyed our visit to Cumberland nonetheless. read more

Walked in on a whim to kill some time after a late lunch, and was pleasantly surprised. Charis is an urban winery owned by a retired techie who has a passion for wines. I wasn't sure if I would like the wines, but I really enjoyed most, specifically the meade and the Summer Breeze. There was a blend that wasn't being bottled yet, which was phenomenal (Malbec, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese). Excellent family owned and run winery and bonus, they also serve a delicious pizza!!! One of the owners, Chuck, was so kind as to make our three pizzas ahead of time, so that they were ready exactly when we arrived! Also, kind people-- before they even knew that I might end being a customer, they let me use their restroom ( as the visitor center was closed for the evening). My only regret is that I was unable to taste any wine, due to a long drive ahead! Great outdoor eating space too! read more

My husband and I just had a wonderful visit with the owner of Charis. Not only are the wines amazing but the owner is very knowledgeable and welcomes all questions. We came in for a quick tasting and stayed for over an hour. He has a true passion for his craft and it was a pleasure learning about his style an willingness to experiment a bit. There is no doubt in my mind that we will soon return for another visit. We purchase the 1309 brandy and a bottle of Taylin. read more

Chuck is an awesome guy to talk to, but the wines are awesomer. Seriously, this is a great low key winery to taste a wine or eight and relax. The wine all tastes amazing. They have a lot of red wines but they are all very different than eachother. The prices are reasonable and the wine is better than anything I have tasted in the nearby region. This is s must do on your Cumberland list and I recommend it highly. Frozen wine slushee so good too!! read more

Stopped by this place on the way to the railroad station and we are certainly glad we did. We did the wine tasting and were able to try some wines that haven't even been bottled yet. It was a very exciting experience and the wines were very good. There was also balsamic vinegar & olive oil tasting stations. This is an amazing winery. Chuck explained everything and answered all of our questions. He is a joy to talk to. We ended up chatting with him for a while and he has amazing stories today. The wines were delicious and this was one of the few instances where I ended up buying a bottle wine after a tasting. Cute place, simply unacceptable service, did not taste. The room is nice, typical small operation. A few olive oil and vinegar tasting jars on one side. The owner was pouring to 4 people. He said he'll be with us shortly, there was no one else in the whole place. We hung out almost 15 minutes, tasted a few balsamics to keep us busy, and looked at him a few times. No further acknowledgement from him at all, even when we just walked out without being served. Folks you don't make people wait this long without any service in a practically empty place unless you're sending a message. We'll put our whileface on the next time. read more

Tried to stop by the tasting room today, on the way to Rocky Gap Casino Resort. Their website said that they were open on Sundays from 2-6 In-Season (April-December). Got to the tasting room at 5:20 only to find the tasting room closed. The sign on the door said they closed at 5. It was only 20 minutes out of our way, but it was still annoying since we left another winery early to make it here on time, and chose them over another winery due to the hours posted on their website. read more

Chuck is so amazing! He stayed open on Memorial Day for us coming back from a stay at Deep Creek Lake an extra 45 min. He then let us taste out the barrels. You can feel his passion and all of his wines are worth a taste. We ended buying two and he gave us the last bottle of Catawba because that's where my boyfriend is from. Come support this winery.
