A great little coffee spot in downtown Cumberland! I stopped in this morning for a couple of scones, a flat white and a latte. The baristas were kind and friendly. Everything was delicious. The flat white was superb! I was also very impressed that there was a sign on the door about watching your language. It's nice to see traditional values being upheld in the service industry still! It's a tiny shop but super cute, with eclectic decos. Love that they had a flat white option on the menu since it gives you more volume than a cortado but less milk than a latte. There are tons of outlets for charging devices, and it's pretty chill to read or get some work done. Wish they had more savory food options. But the barista served the coffee fast and hot. read more

Came here again while passing through the area. Not sure why I gave it only 4 stars last time because the Americano I got today was top notch. They roast their own beans and you can tell they really care about the quality of their coffee. My wife got the peanut butter melt away latte, which she loved. I took a sip and although I never order those fancy drinks, I would actually consider this one. I've been to a lot of different coffee shops in a lot of different parts of the country, and this little shop in small town Cumberland is one of the best. read more

Great option for coffee in Cumberland, MD! I stopped here in June 2025 for a Cafe Americano during a roadtrip from northern Virginia to Wheeling, WV on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. The service was friendly and the cozy atmosphere was really welcoming. As it was Father's Day, a kind person had given a $200 gift card to provide free coffee for all fathers (an unexpected treat). Street parking is free and available within a block. If you have about 30 minutes, it's well worth a walk up the hill to see the Fort Cumberland memorial (near the courthouse). Will definitely return to this place on my next trip to the area! read more

On our way out of town we were taking a brief dorky moment to visit GW's HQ down the street and the Old Lady wanted to stop since she loves coffee and it was bitter February morning. All I can say is if I lived in Cumberland, this would be my regular hangout. The location is great, the interior is welcoming and cozy, and most importantly, the coffee is good! I came here on a Saturday to spend an hour or two writing postcards and getting caffeinated. There wasn't much going on in the city itself (seriously, I walked through downtown in the afternoon and saw maybe one or two other people outside), but this spot was definitely the place to be, with a steady stream of people coming and going... which I think is testament to what a great place it is. Also, props to barista Kieran, who is the best. They gave me recommendations of spots to check out in the area and both times I came in, they were friendly and welcoming. Came through here on our bike ride of the C&O and GAP. I like the friendly, cozy atmosphere, and I was psyched that they were open early. Their coffee is excellent, and I say this not just because I have been drinking instant coffee for a week, but because I am also a coffee snob. I love that they list each coffee drink with the amount of milk next to it in ounces so that you can dial in what you want. Also got a couple pastries which the woman working at the counter offered to heat up for me--nice! It's sad to see how poorly Cumberland is doing these days. I hope that this place and other businesses are part of a turnaround for this beautiful town. Definitely worth a visit, and I will be sure to return if I am in the area again. read more

dirty chai latte was perfect. also not that expensive ($5). matcha was good, comes unsweetened but theres sweetner and sugar by the door. cold brew was smooth. their cheese danish tasted more like a lemon danish than a cheese danish, and came cold, which was the only disappointment. still good though. highly recomend. read more

Finally had a chance to stop in and get something from this spot in town. Opened this year by a guy who has invested heavily in this area - starting out roasting and bagging coffee beans in his house long before renovating this current spot. Good staff and very friendly staff. The owner Hayden greeted upon entry, talked about their options, and I went with a cold brew which hopefully was keto friendly. Place isn't the biggest - but is very clean, bright, and a nice place to go and meet, along with some outdoor seating on the brick sidewalk. In a small town like Cumberland good coffee spots are usually hard to find. However, things are changing and places like Basecamp are popping up. Recently a friend in town started sending my wife and I coffee as gifts from Basecamp and it was really good! So on our last visit we stopped in to experience it in person. Overall the place is really cool. Great coffee (and tea), space to do work, snacks, and a friendly staff. What more do you need? We'll be back! read more

Great coffee in a cool location. If I had to pick a one-word description of Basecamp Coffee, it'd be "essential." There's no fuss, and no extra frou frou. Just good coffee, a few teas, and a couple bready snacks. The space has the classic 2010s since of hippness - wood decor, open space, and minimal seating. This is a very nice coffee shop in Cumberland, Maryland! They have small batches of micro-roasted beans for sale, and a lot of non-dairy options: oat milk, soy milk, almond milk. There is also a nice seating area for reading or studying (when circumstances return to normal). They followed public health measures (face masks worn, take out only). This place is cute and definitely a gem in Cumberland. I came in on a Sunday morning and there was plenty of parking. A few people were in there and two people were working. My friend and I both got lattes and scones. The service was extremely slow. I think they were making one drink at a time and slowly. The scone was really yummy and the lattes were great. It just shouldn't take 15 minutes for a latte with only two other customers ahead in line. Fabulous! I found this place after two very meh experiences at Cafe Mark. I come to Cumberland to visit family and I have been spoiled by good coffee. In the past, Cafe Mark was about the only option to get close to what I can get at home, but Basecamp just blows them away. The coffee is excellent, they are quick and the staff is super friendly and helpful. They have a small pastry case - scones, etc - and we didn't try any of that, so I can't speak to how good the offerings are. However, I think that not providing food service allows them to focus on the coffee and the customer, and it shows. The barista recommended a drink-the undertow, a bit of vanilla syrup topped with hot milk and a shot of espresso-and it was unique and delicious. If a good coffee is what you're going for, look no more because there's nowhere better in the Cumberland/Lavale area. read more
