    Char'd Original, duck fat fries
    Julius D.

I like a good burger, every now and again. I was a fan of Burger Fi (which this place used to be); in fact I wish it would come back. I'm not a fan of the smashed burger concept, but that's what's on offer here. Not a dealbreaker, just not my preference. They offer chicken tenders, fries and onion rings that are fried in duck fat. I thought that was very interesting, so I had to try it. I've been twice. My first visit was a couple of months ago I had a single Char'd along with fries and a drink. With tax and tip it was $25. Forget the price, I wasn't all that impressed with the meal - the patty was about the size of a McDonald's hamburger. Given the area, it's about what to expect for lunch - but it wasn't a wow moment. I decided to give it another try last week; this time I opted for the 3pc chicken tenders and fries, with a drink. Came to about $25; the tenders were crispy and juicy, but I didn't love them. Fries were the same - maybe its me, but I didn't love them either and I have to wonder if the duck fat had anything to do with it? I've only ever heard of it being used - and that was in a John Wick movie, I don't know anything about the practice itself. So, I've been twice and I've not been overly impressed with either visit, so I'll probably go to the Five Guys on the Pike if I get a hankering for a burger, or just pick something else. Too pricey for what you get, in my opinion. But it isn't terrible.

    The burgers. They were good.

Halal beef seems to be trending in restaurants that are opening in our area. Char'd is no exception! Char'd is known for their grass fed beef, duck fat fries, and no seed oil used in their cooking. So, I was excited to try their food. You can give your order at the counter and the gentleman who waited on us was very nice and helpful. They do not have gluten free buns, but they do have lettuce cups, where they put hamburgers or cheeseburgers on a large slice of lettuce. Unfortunately, for our order they sent out both of our orders on buns. But, the restaurant remade our order with the lettuce cups pretty quickly. The fries were fabulous. We were both big fans of the duck fat fries. The hamburgers were good too. But, like other reviewers, I agree, the prices are very high. I paid $36 dollars for 2 single burgers, one order of fries, and one water. With tip it was $40. The place is modern decor, with both outside and indoor seating. I really liked the wall art. So, good service, nice decor, but high prices.

Top bun and burger patty, slipped out of sleeve

My son wanted a kids burger with no cheese and extra pickles, they had to remake it because it had cheese and then it came without pickles. We had to get attention to get some finally. Some of the servers are super great, and some are not so much. When a burger without certain ingredients was ordered, one waiter rudely said "then what do you want on the burger" however, the burger still had plenty of ingredients listed, that the person ordering didn't ask to be left off. It's difficult to order a plain burger with the only burger on the menu has bacon and cheese. The food is standard fare. Burgers, sandwiches, salads. The chef pays attention to allergens. I've tried the shrimp roll, the Caesar salad, and the turkey club. All of these can be made gluten free, although the menu doesn't denote it. Another in my party enjoyed the shrimp tacos and the burger. Being inside the Marriott, it is a little overpriced, but the food is good, just hit or miss with service. Great for a quick bite if you're staying in the Marriott.

It used to open and close at in weird intervals so this was nice to find out. I stopped by on a rainy Sunday lunchtime. Parking was easy to find right in front of the store. Orders can be placed online or in-person at the counter. I highly recommend placing the orders ahead of time because of the wait. I saw a few people go up to the counter wondering about the order status as it was taking awhile. The store also carries several of Gwenie's pastries and dessert items. Fresh cream filled donuts available along with cakes and pies just to name a few. I got the lechon kawali over garlic fried rice and my friend ordered pork belly sisig combination. Every bite was flavorful and tasty. I just wish it had better portions. My bowl had small bite size pieces of what looked like half a strip of pork belly. The cost /portion ratio was just not the best. I still wouldn't mind returning and trying out other menu items. Like the KJ's chopped salad for example.

I'm a bit of a sucker for fried seafood but I do think it was overly coated with breading. Service was good, the food came out timely and hot. I ordered a chicken pot pie (looks small but is a huge portion for me). I'll have to say that's my favorite. It's a beautiful restaurant that would be more of a semi-formal appeal. There are also party rooms in the back where my family and I book to have dinner events.

Started with the Caesar salad appetizer and it was completely bland. No flavor at all. Then I had the French dip with the thin fries. I specifically asked for the meat to be well done and lean with no fat. The waitress said that wouldn't be a problem, but the sandwich came out not well done, fatty, and pretty tasteless. The horseradish sauce also had almost no flavor whatsoever. I don't even know why they call it horseradish honestly. The au jus seemed weak and watered down too, or maybe just old. Either way, it wasn't good. Overall the meal just felt really off compared to what this restaurant used to be. Maybe it was an off night, I don't know, but it definitely wasn't the experience I expected. Not sure if I'll go back again. Unfortunately in Montgomery County there really aren't that many great options left either.
