If you didn't read my review of the Meat House, this is what you need to know- "All of the greatest steaks of my life have come from this meat house. There is nothing quite like the greatest steak of your life, I'm convinced it gives you slight superpowers and a feeling of euphoria." They have officially been beaten, but let it be known that Lyon has an unfair advantage. This place is clean, sleek, and smells amazing. There is a pristine glass case where you can see dozens of perfect-ten types of meat from the best regions in the world, and you can pick whatever you like. That is, if you don't want to order from their awesome menu. Best part is, the prices are fantastic. You get incredible quality for a price that is much lower than what I'm used to for product like this. Best steak dinner at a restaurant in my life. They also have my favorite bordier butter (get the yuzu!) We got an apricot goat cheese, a vacherin, and a chaource, which I had never tried before. They label all the cheeses and specify what kind of animal milk and whether it's raw or pasteurized. CHARCUTERIE: A big selection, along with fresh meats and sausages WINE: You can get a glass to take to your table and have a cheese / charcuterie plate with the stuff you gathered at the other shops.

In addition to a large selection of cheeses, including a delicious truffled St Marcelin, which was absolutely delicious, they also have a selection of butters and yogurts by Bordier. I've tried all of their butters, which I completely love, but hadn't seen their yogurt before. Wow, what a treat, so creamy and fresh, fantastic flavours. If you haven't tried Bordier butter, buy some to go with some excellent bread from one of the nearby bakery stalls, and enjoy. There are a range of flavours, and all are pretty fantastic. We actually usually bring a few packs of butter back to the UK, slice into chunks, and freeze which works surprisingly well. Service was helpful, and credit cards were accepted. Not much English, but patient with our bad French.

Being on the river, it is as scenic as can possibly be imagined. The market goes on and on and on and on and on. Every kind of meat, every kind of fish, every kind of shellfish, every kind of vegetable, every kind of fruit, every kind of cheese, every kind of bread, every kind of pastry, every kind of spice, every kind of charcuterie, every kind of artisanal prepared food, Any thing you can think of in French cuisine: It's all here at the Marche Saint-Antoine. And they have it at multiple stalls - so you can pick and choose which vendor you like. Want to make pigeon stuffed with quince? They have the pigeon. They have the quince. Do you want fromage blanc made on the Savoyard model rather than following the Lyonnaise model? You have that option and six other choices as well. Have a French cookbook you read but can't use, since you can't find about a third of the ingredients? All those ingredients are at the Marche Saint-Antoine. The prices are very very reasonable. (The contrast with Les Halles de Paul Bocuse is particularly striking on the price issue.) If I lived in Lyon, I would set my cooking days to be the market days at the Marche Saint-Antoine ... Even if there was a perfectly good smaller market in my neighborhood.

Sechons (paired with dried fruit) 5. Fougerus (paired with marmalade) I enjoyed both meats, but really enjoyed the creamy Fougerus cheese with the marmalade. The salad gave a lightness to the meal and helped cleanse our palates between meats and cheeses. The place is small and cozy, but lively!
