First timers club? Well, Ive lived in Tracy going on 28 years and take great pleasure in finding and patronizing small businesses. And today was one of those opportunities. My daughter was in town and of course its was daddy/daughter time. Although I've been peeking this spot out for quite some time, I just decided today was the day. And let's just say, Chapter 2 did not disappoint! We came in just after 1:30 in the afternoon, we were promptly greeted and seated. Solomon ( our server) gave us the rundown and gave us time to review the menu. He also took our drink order, and eventually with a quick look, I knew what my body needed, especially after having just finished my workout. My daughter decided on the Western Burger and I decided on the Shrimp Scampi pasta plate. While our orders were being prepared, it gave us time to chat and check out the restaurants decor. I'll say this, its different but man, I absolutely dig the vibe here. One of the things I seem to always ask is, what is the restaurants origin story....ans that when I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Heather, the owner. To say the least, she's my kinda folk. Orders arrived and again, we were not disappointed in any way, shape or form. We both enjoyed everything, and Im not a desert kind of guy, but there were beignets on the menu... served with Carmel and/or chocolate sauce. Needless to say, they were Dee-Lish-Ous! The one thing that sealed the deal besides the great food was the restaurants restroom. I wont give it away, but its just something you gotta experience...again, its all about the experience for me when it comes to dining or patronage at any business, it has to hit! Heather, thank you again so very much for the incredible opportunity to meet you and like I said to you today, you're going be seeing me again, probably more often than I need to be in there! So a message to those visiting or you are like me, newly retired and are rediscovering Tracy, or just strolling through downtown, please swing through Chapter 2.

A very low key hole in the wall place and you know what that means... food is bomb!! We had their soup specials and the artichoke one was my fave and I usually don't like artichoke but this soup made me love it. I had the sambal chicken sandwich it was okay, it was missing the sambal taste but I was still satisfied. And omg the star of the show was their beignets!! I have been to NOLA and had Cafe Du Monde's beignets and I would say these beignets were sooo much better, crispy on the outside and airy and soft in the inside. I was inlove!! I would definitely come back and try their other sandwiches and pasta and ofcourse the beignets. Happy eating!

Little hole in the wall kinda place. I love those! Good beer selection, great food menu. And the people who work here are fantastic, we had Solomon. I had the bourbon burger, it was great. My wife had the BLT and it had lots of bacon on it! We will be back! I almost forgot about dessert, we had beignets and our friends had the apple strudel and said it was delicious.

Hot honey chicken sandwich with waffle fries

I stopped by here first to grab food before trying out Morgan Territory Brewing in Tracy. Everything was excellent. The food, service and ambiance all came together in this small but friendly little restaurant. I got one of their grilled chicken sandwiches that came with hot honey along with waffle fries on the side. The chicken was juicy and the hot honey complimented it which I've never had with grilled chicken before. The waffle fries were seasoned well. I also shared some fried pickles with my table and those were more flavorful than most fried pickles elsewhere. Parking can be tight but it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I would definitely go back in the area but since it's over an hour away from my current location I probably won't be back for a while unless I know I'll need to head down that direction which is not common. I'm glad I got the chance to try them at least once though.

Updating my review (it's been a long time coming!) after a pleasurable lunch experience! We wandered in for lunch on a Friday afternoon, and I was surprised to see how quiet it was. This environment however, was perfect for us since I had my 14 month old in tow. They had crayons, books, legos and a few toys set to the side that you could grab from to entertain your kiddos. Card and board games were also available up front for those who want to play a game while they dine. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, and treated us like friends. Our waiter was great! The house made chips were as delightful as they sound. Fried were well fried, flavors well developed and paired, and the food was just overall delightful. They also make a number of sauces in house, so be sure to ask them about the dipping sauces while you're here! They have a full bar in the front, so if you're craving a yummy cocktail alongside dinner, they can make that happen. I highly recommend giving them a try for in person dining!

Extremely friendly staff. Spaghetti and 3 Meatballs. Decent price and tasty. Ask for sauce on the side of your not a sauce fan or like it more runny. Karma was worth it. Had so much left over for a lunch the next day. Barnyard Burger. I would post a picture of the beignets with chocolate and homemade salted caramel sauce...but...we ate it before we remembered to take a picture. It's rivals Cafe du Monde (original) on the river New Orleans.

As we walked in the door we picked out a game to play as this is something offered for patrons. It's one of the things we love about coming here for date night! Heather the owner greeted us and we were quickly seated. Solomon is our favorite server and is always amazing. He made us two great mocktails, mine had cucumber and mint and citrus, so good and refreshing. Hubby had a blueberry, pineapple, green apple and something else. It was also perfect! We ordered the caprisi salad which had pesto and mozzarella and was was super tasty with pita bread. We ordered an extra pita bread as it needed a bit more. The steak was done to perfection with a garlic butter on top, mashed potatoes and green beans with red pepper and corn. We shared as it was a big serving and left us a little room to share the yummy bread pudding. Solomon suggested it and it was fantastic. Moist and super decadent with caramel and a homemade whipped cream. I would order all of it again. We will be back!

Oh how we LOVE YOU Chapter 2!!! You've consistently been not only delicious but such a warm and friendly environment with amazing service, that we love coming to eat together as a family (especially since theirs so many options that we all love)! I've been a fan for a long time but decided to update my review today and now (while I sit in the establishment) because I just devoured the best chicken Marsala I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, I've had it here before while it was on special prior to becoming a menu item, but to see that it's made its way to the menu just made my whole year!! They make the Marsala sauce so perfectly rich flavorful, I could never get enough! I seriously could lick my plate! Thank you for sharing your love for delicious food, with a cheers like atmosphere! You guys are the best!! We'll be back, like next week and every week after. lol

Chapter 2 has been on my list of curiosities for quite some time now- finally made it in this evening. Tucked away into the corner of a small shopping center can make this restaurant and easy one to miss. With being on a "plant-based" structure as of late, this was the wrong spot for me! I came in with great intentions of getting the caprese... then I saw the peanut butter burger on the menu and it was game over. My hunt for the best peanut butter burger when I travel is much the same as my hunt for the best bloody mary. How did I not know there was a peanut butter burger right in my backyard? So of course... plant-based went out the window for the evening and the burger was ordered (along with the bruschetta). The burger was tasty, but I had to pack half of it to go. The bruschetta, the bread had a heavy salted flavor along with a char. I think the salt would normally be a bit much, but with the acidity from the bruschetta, it's actually a delicious bite. I'd order both items again. Our waitress, though I didn't catch her name, was also very helpful.

My Karma - ended up being Chicken Marsala with mashed potatoes and sautéed string beans on the side.

AWARENESS: Chapter 2 opened a year or so ago, after Dave Helm, owner of Helm's Ale House passed away and his long time partner Heather entered into the next chapter of life (Chapter 2). Since its opening, I've had it book marked to try, especially after seeing all the raves about the food in both the local paper and in Yelp reviews. NARRATIVE: Chapter 2 opened in the location where Fabio's Italian Cuisine once stood. Inside, you'll find a decent size bar with a few seats and to the right, many dining tables with various pictures of Heathers life and friends displayed under the tables plexiglass. The first thing that caught my eye when the wife and I sat down at our table was, a small box on the table, stenciled with "Disconnect & Reconnect. Place phones here... Talk to each other!" WOW, way to go Heather. When it came time to order, I asked about the Karma. From the menu, it says "Karma - "you don't get what you want, you get what you deserve. Our choice. Our creation." Our server told me, each time someone has ordered the Karma, it's been different so, I took the chance. It ended up being( Chicken Marsala smothered in a thick, garlic brown gravy and sides of mashed potatoes with sautéed green beans. AMAZING choice and AMAZING food! SCENE: As mentioned above. Chapter 2 is located where Fabio's Italian food was located. It's sits in a small strip mall at the corners of W 10th St. and B St. A small but cozy place. RECOMMENDATION(S): Keep it local folks. It's worth ever bit of your time money.

My sister recommended this place she loved the food . We had to pick a place to celebrate my parent's new home and my mom's retirement. It was 10 of us at this dinner . They do not have reservations so what we did was we showed up at 430 when they re- open the restaurant for dinner . Once's we arrived right after us people started to show up . So if you have a large party I recommend showing up early . Once we walked in on the left there is a phone looks like an old payphone but once you look closer It says to pick up to hear the voice of an Angel . It's so sweet !! it's someone singing and that is the way to keep his memory alive I loved the idea. The restroom is very interesting I loved all the pictures on the wall and quotes . I loved the ambience everyone was happy and friendly. They have a cute bar set up also . The food was all amazing I got the wedge salad my favorite part was the apples in it . The Kentucky Burger is a must have.. So so good ! Everyone else had pasta and burgers we all loved our food very good . They offer beers on tap, wine and liquor from the bar. I would suggest having like a signature cocktail drink . Overall we loved it here . I highly recommend checking it out .

Another great experience at Chapter 2! Back to try more of the menu and we weren't disappointed. Tried the carnitas quesadilla special, Philly sandwich, and the apple tart for dessert. Quesadilla was delicious, meat tender and very flavorful. The Philly was really good as well, tender beef, reminded us of our favorite Chicago beef sandwich, which is a huge compliment. The apple tart was life changing, so amazing, with a cinnamon whip top and a little salt with the apples... sooo good. Dinner for 2 with drinks, an appetizer, 2 entrees and a dessert with tip, $75. What a deal!

Great food! Great service! The owner is very hands on and made sure to make us feel at home & more than welcome. We ordered the Pickle Coins, Bourbon Burger & Kentucky Burger. You can taste every flavor in every bite. Love the full bar & great selection of beers on tap. I'm looking forward to eating my way through the menu. See you soon Chapter 2!! read more

What a horrible time to open a restaurant. But the quality of this food and the service will assure this restaurant will make it through this social distancing and beyond. We ordered dinner for 5 and all of us were too busy enjoying the food to do any talking. The hamburgers were cooked to perfection and juicy( but not greasy)Can't wait to be able to go into the restaurant and share dome more food and draft beers. read more

Had my first experience tonight at Chapter 2 and I am very pleased with this place! I ordered the salmon plate and it is honestly the best salmon I've had in Tracy! Very friendly and attentive staff! The live music was also a great touch. Will def be back! read more

For anyone seeking a modern version of what community means, you need to go no further than the newest restaurant in Tracy...Chapter 2. While we were following the plans for the grand opening, it was great to see the flexibility of everyone at Chapter 2 to get the drive up order process in place. My wife and I ordered dinner on Saturday evening. The impromptu instructions for how to text our order in were very clear. About 20 minutes after acknowledging our order, we received the text that it was ready. We ordered a Classic Burger and the Salmon with rice and vegetables. The food was fabulous, tasty, healthy, cooked correctly and served with a smile. To be able to pull this off during this unplanned pandemic is truly remarkable! It is so great to have such a wonderful addition to the cuisine choices here in our little community of Tracy! read more

Had the corn fritters, phenomenal is an understatement. Then the Kentucky burger which had amazing toppings and perfect balance of juicy but not sloppy meat and toppings. Heather Smiddy, owner, puts out a great menu. The steaks are done just right and are accompanied by tender green beans and delectable fingerling potatoes. The fresh salmon, encrusted with toasted coconut, was perfectly seasoned and "cooked to perfection". Both the burgers and waffle fries were really delicious. And the wine list is plentiful.We highly recommend Chapter 2, located in Tracy, Ca at 88 W. 10th St. We look forward to going back.... and we're from Brentwood, a 40 minute drive. I really wanted to like the place due to the backstory (I am a supporter!), however, it still has a ways to go. Granted, COVID has taken its toll on waitstaff and food supply chain so I understand. However, the menu was not clear on what the food actually was (on a few dishes), the selection was sparse (it had a COVID menu disclaimer), and the staff quite busy. The staff was certainly friendly though. The atmosphere is OK with a developing theme. We will probably go back in a few months to see if they've been able to overcome these growing & pandemic pains. read more

Our family and friends all love Chapter 2. The food is fantastic and the staff seems to genuinely care about your meal. They get busy and run 100 mph trying to make everyone happy. They don't mind at all when you simply get their attention and let them know you need a side of ranch or another beer. The corn fritters are unreal. The burgers are some of the best around. They spare no expense on portions. If something is wrong they fix it. It's like eating at a friends house who loves to cook and more than anything wants to share their bomb ass food and beer with you! This location was a long standing old school restaurant prior to becoming Chapter 2. The owner and staff have done a great job remodeling and creating a welcoming environment. I can't imagine trying to open a restaurant during a year that saw COVID regulations bury previously successful businesses. What a great addition to our awesome downtown restaurants. By far the best resturant here in Tracy! We have ordered dinner twice now since shelter in place order. Curbside has been easy and super quick. I recommend following on facebook for specials. Nice to support local & employees are always friendly and smiling. Thanks you guys :) read more

Heather and Company have pulled together during this unstable time, and rather than a grand opening, had to scramble and create a Grand Takeout! Damn, have they delivered on service and flavor! Everything we had we delicious, especially those Corn Fritters! My husband and I tired this new restaurant that just opened a couple of weeks ago the other night. Let just say this isn't the best time to open a restaurant but they are killing it. Food is delicious, portions are big annd their beer selection is awesome. Yes I said it! Beer togo! Oh and if you need toilet paper. Grab a roll while you pick up your dinner and drinks. read more

First time eating here tonight. Corn fritters were good, Caprese salad very fresh, Chicken Chardonnay very moist and I'm told the Bourbon Bacon burger was amazing (I won't eat any red meat that's still pink, but my brother ordered it medium rare). Just back from dinner. This place is a 5 star. Why? 1. The Food is good and moderately priced. 2. The Wait staff are really pleasant. I teased our female wait person about the menu. she asked if she could read it to us (beer menu). I asked her if she could "sing" the menu? Of course i was teasing, and then when i asked her if she was really blushing (she was) she said that if she were to "sing" the menu, then half the patrons would leave (sense of humor which i like) because she claimed she had a terrible voice. 3. I like the culture there. I'm a vet, and it's nice to see some conservative values in a state that is wildly liberal (called "RESPECT" and "Welcome to California") but at the same time, nice "people place". Although some conservative values, they do have a set aside program to feed those that don't have the cash to pay for food. It says so on the wall too... 4. The owner. there's a reason it's called "Chapter 2". It's a story of sorrow and hardship ending up as a success story (my son told me the story and it's personal so i won't give details out of respect and privacy) so one has to admire what the owner had to go through to open up this place. 5. The owner (part 2)... my son told me she actually dropped her prices during the pandemic (she opened up during the pandemic which is difficult enough) (she had another restaurant recently is how i can say she 'dropped her prices') so that she could feed folks that may or may not be able to afford eating out. Although she did say after, she would raise her prices. 6. And i gave the wait person a really nice tip "cuz she deserved it"! When i go to a restaurant, not only do i want good food, but a pleasant experience which is why the 5 stars... ...I'll be back! read more

The food is on point here. The Kentucky burger is always on the top of my list. The specials are creative and flavorful. This place destroys my willpower to eat low carb. The best part is the 110% the owner and her staff are putting into making it work. They are always friendly, going above and beyond to make sure things are right. They got dealt the least attractive side for a patio and still made it nice. read more

The food here is so good. I had the Chicken Picatta Pasta. You'll love it if you are a lemon fan. The chocolate cake was devine! The service was timely and our server was very pleasant and we didn't have an excessive wait time. We went on a Thursday night and there was live music (classic rock). A very enjoyable evening. read more

Let me just start with the customer service.....AMAZING! My husband, 4 year old daughter and myself went to dinner here and we felt so welcomed, everyone was so nice and polite and the gals there are just the most professional and kind employees all the way around. I had the chicken chardonnay it was cooked perfectly all the way through, juicy and flavorful atop a bed of nice fluffy brown rice that just melted in my mouth. My picky husband had the mushroom swiss burger and it too was cooked to perfection and he ate every bit..... This place is SO SO SO comfortable, inviting, delicious, and best of all.... great prices..... read more

I really hope this place makes it though these tough times. I have had 2 dinners and have been impressed with the quality and quantity of the dinners. it suffers from the commute from tracy to Livermore but that is my problem. the NY steak was great and the grilled chicken sandwich was the bomb. read more

Had a great meal staff was very professional working through these times was able to drive up and get my food without any hassle and food was still warm. Tried this place for the first time. After seeing several posts on Facebook , I finally decided to try this place out. I originally wanted the Beer Cheese Burger , but they were out of it. So I went with the Salmon instead and it was delicious!! The Hubby had a bacon burger and that was sooooo good as well. Can't wait to try this place out again. I got the steak and my son got a burger, both meals were really good. The fried pickles were amazing. Had about at 20 minute wait but it was worth it. We received pretty good service while we were here. Heather is amazing and obviously cares about each and every costumer! After dinner Heather noticed that my steak was not cooked the way I asked . Although I did not complain and ate almost the entire steak she took my meal off the bill . The atmosphere is family friendly and the staff was amazing. Very clean inside . The food, the value, and the staff and owner of Chapter 2 are the best! This review is well overdue, but after having take out and dine in at the new place, I strongly recommend it! Called chapter 2 because the owner, Heather, was previously at Helm's on 6th & Central. If you had been to Helm's when Dave was there, you probably met Dave, or Heather, or probably both of them. Both great people! Sadly, we lost Dave, but Heather has carried on with "Chapter 2". The same things that made Helm's great are here. Really good food and drinks, and friendly service, all at a great value. read more

I love this place it is the epitome of a small town go to spot!!! We came tonight, this is my kids favorite restaurant. She stayed home to work on school work and we promised to bring her home a steak. We just got her to go and the owner drew her a picture on her to go.... Let's just say the food here is amazing but this is why we come we feel like we are a member of the family when we come here. This is what makes a restaurant memorable. Keep up the good work Chapter 2 and did I mention the food is amazing!!! read more

Chapter 2 is our Friday night go to restaurant. I love the sambal chicken sandwich or the salmon and my husband loves the steak. The fries are delicious, especially dining in. They have a great beer selection too. We love Heather and the warm environment she has created. I don't know if my mind would have survived Covid without having some place to look forward to every week. Great food, great people, and friendly faces equal a great night at Chapter 2!! read more

We tried out Chapter 2 on a whim. We had heard from people we know about a new restaurant opening, so why not? The atmosphere is warm and inviting. There are good tunes playing, but not too loud. The drinks are good and the beer options are great (TRY THE CREAM ALE!!!) I had the a chicken sandwich with bacon jam (yup, thats a thing) and my wife had the philli cheese steak. Both came with a mountain of waffle fries. We'll definitely be back! read more

Me and my fiancé had been wanting to try this place out for a while and were finally able to a couple weeks ago. They were really busy but the wait to be seated wasn't too long, the owner was our server and she was super attentive despite being slammed. The food came out fast and was SO good - they have a lot of choices on the menu and we will definitely be back to try more. read more

We love Chapter II, probably the best food in Tracy. Heather has come a long way to get here...with dynamite help from her son & daughter and friend Lindsay, you must try Chapter II. The Food & Service is THE BEST! Try the chicken Marsala, New York Steak, salmon, pastas, burgers, everything is Great.....Glad they're now open for lunch! read more

I'm so excited that this place is finally OPEN OPEN. They do a great job on their take out. But if you want to dine in.... Go on in. My favorites. Corn Fritters, fried pickles, bruschetta, New York steak, chicken piccata. Yep we eat here at least once a week. So delicious. Heather and her crew are freaking amazing. read more

We waited over two hours for our food when we tried here and the food came out bland with no flavor and the fries on the side were soggy. Super disappointed because it was not cheap either. I will say the girl who brought us our order working hard gave great customer service but we will not be eating here again. read more

This is by far the best place in Tracy. My husband and I will go on date night and the drinks are great and food is perfect. We will take our kids, and as picky as they are they love the food here. Staff is always smiling and food is always fantastic. Wait time is never to long. Again we love this place read more

We so needed this restaurant in Tracy!! The food is impeccable, they have a special every week that is just to die for!! Heather always makes it fun and it feels like family! Asweome place to relax, enjoy an adult beverage and have delicious food. Haven't tried every item on the menu cause I can't get past my fave's, the steak, the pork chop or any of the burgers. The staff is great and make the effort to make you feel at home. read more
